24、Type in “A cat wants to go to space” and ask the robot to write a bedtime story. Just one second later, you’ll get the story of Max, who clawed his way past many difficulties to sing among the stars.
This robot writer is real. It’s called ChatGPT. US company OpenAI developed it to generate (生成) human-like texts. It can translate languages, talk with people and write songs, poems and even jokes. It’s one of the most powerful AI of its kind, with the complete writing range (范围) of a real person!
People around the world have tried ChatGPT and posted their results on social media. Some used it to write history essays (论文), some asked it to take notes of presentations, and some even generated advice on how to interact (互动) with people at a party, reported The Atlantic.
The power of ChatGPT lies in its high speed and understanding of complicated matters. We may spend hours researching, understanding and writing an article on the theory of evolution (进化论). But ChatGPT can produce a well-written one in seconds. Another good thing about it is that if you ask dark, harmful questions, such as how to make guns, it will not give you an answer.
ChatGPT comes along at a time when AI is becoming increasingly able to do creative tasks. The materials they create are difficult to tell from those made by humans. This causes many ethical (道德的) issues, such as the issue of copyright and the definition (定义) of art. Since the system is largely trained using words from the internet, it can also pick up on the internet’s biases (偏见) and stereotypes (刻板印象) about certain groups. These are all the things that depend on humans to solve.
【1】Paragraphs 1—2 were written to ________.
A.show how robots create stories
B.introduce a cat that wants to go to space
C.introduce a series of bedtime books
D.show what creative work ChatGPT can do

B.humans will completely be replaced by ChatGPT
C.ChatGPT is still under development
D.people cannot tell the difference between texts from ChatGPT and humans
【3】According to this passage, compared with human writing ChatGPT is ________.
A.faster
B.safer
C.more complicated
D.more correct
【4】The last paragraph is mainly about ________.
A.how people will feel about writing in the future
B.what problems AI writing can cause
C.people’s biases about AI writing
D.human efforts in developing AI writing
25、Memory collects and stores information that we need for different tasks. It also plays an important role in helping us recognize (识别) and remember important people and special things.
Some diseases destroy the brain’s memory function (功能). Yet even without these terrible diseases, some people, like busy entrepreneurs (企业家), can risk losing stored memories and the ability to form and keep new ones. Besides, our unhealthy lifestyles, for example, little sleep, can hurt memory function.
Luckily, science gives us hope with ways to improve our memory.
Use games and apps to train your brain.
A 2017 study found that a lot of video games can improve memory-related areas in the brain. If you aren’t a fan of video games, consider brain-training and memory apps to play with when you have a break. You can also try crossword, find-a-word and picture search apps. Board games (棋类游戏) also help.
Exercise regularly. While mental exercise helps improve your memory skills, physical exercise is also important. Several research studies show that regular physical exercise is good for memory.
Reduce stress levels. Research has found that some people with dementia (痴呆) actually didn’t have it at all. Instead, stress had hurt their memory. By using stress reduction methods they were able to get and even improve memory function again.
Eat your vegetables and fruit. A study showed that men may improve their memory by eating more vegetables and fruit. The study included about 28, 000 men in their early 50s who answered questions every four years. The study showed the men who ate more vegetables and fruit each day didn’t have poor thinking skills as often as those who ate less each day.

26、One day in 1924, five men who were camping in the Cascade Mountains of Washington saw a group of huge apelike(似猿的) creatures coming out of the woods. They hurried back to their cabin and locked themselves inside. While they were in, the creatures attacked them by throwing rocks against the walls of the cabin. After several hours, these strange hairy giants went back into the woods.
After this incident the men returned to the town and told the people of their adventure. However, only a few people accepted their story. These were the people who remembered hearing tales about footprints of an animal that walked like a human being.
The five men, however, were not the first people to have seen these creatures called Bigfoot. Long before their experience, local Native Americans were certain that a race of apelike animals had been living in the neighboring mountain for centuries. They called these creatures Sasquatch.
In 1958, workmen, who were building a road through the jungles of Northern California often found huge footprints in the earth around their camp.
Then in 1967, Roger Patterson, a man who was interested in finding Bigfoot went into the northern California jungles with a friend. While riding, they were suddenly thrown off from their horses. Patterson saw a tall apelike animal standing not far away. He managed to shoot seven rolls of film of the hairy creature before the animal disappeared in the hushes. when Patterson’s film was shown to the public, not many people believed his story.
In another incident, Richard Brown, a music teacher and also an experienced hunter spotted a similar creature. He saw the animal clearly through the telescopic lens of his rifle. He said the creature looked more like a human than an animal.
Later many other people also found deep footprints in the same area. In spite of regular reports of sightings and footprints, most experts still do not believe that Bigfoot really exists.

27、 Hello, everyone! My name is Lydia. Today, I’m very glad to share my ideas with you.
I love learning foreign languages. In fact, I love it so much that I like to learn a new language every two years, and now I’m working on my eighth one.
When people found that out about me, they always asked me, “How do you do that? What’s your secret?” They wanted to know the secret of polyglots---people who speak a lot of languages. And that made me wonder too. What do polyglots have in common? What is it that helps polyglots to learn languages so much faster than other people? I decided to meet other people like me and find that out.
And so I met Benny from Ireland, who told me that his method was to start speaking right away. He learned a few sentences from a travel book and went to meet native (本地的) speakers and started talking with them. He didn’t mind making even 200 mistakes a day.
I also met Lucas from Brazil who had a really interesting method to learn Russian. He simply added a hundred random (随机的) Russian speakers on Skype as friends, and then he opened a chat window with one of them and wrote “Hi” in Russian. And the person replied, “Hi, how are you?” “Lucas copied this and put it into a text window with another person, and the person replied, “I’m fine, thank you, and how are you?” Lucas copied this back to the first person, and in this way, he let two strangers have a talk with each other without knowing about it. And soon he would begin chatting with Russians himself, because he had so many of these talks that he found out how the Russians usually start their talks. What a creative method, right?
And then I met polyglots who always started by imitating (模仿) sounds of the language, and others who always learned the 500 most used words of the language, and yet others who always started by reading about the grammar. Everybody seems to have a special way to learn a language, and yet we all come to the same result of speaking several languages very well.
And as I was listening to these polyglots telling me about their methods, I suddenly realized that the one thing we all had in common was that we simply found ways to enjoy learning languages. All of these polyglots were talking about language learning as if it was great fun. Then, I understood that this was how I learned languages myself. So if you also tried to learn a language and you gave up, give it another try! Thank you!
