四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Why do we like drinking water from plastic bottles? Some people think it is healthy and clean. Others drink bottled water because it's easy — you can carry it around with you. In hot countries, like Greece, we often buy bottles of cold water in the summer.

However, making lots of plastic is not a good idea for many reasons. First of all, we need a lot of oil for plastic products. We usually use oil as a source(资源) of energy. If we reduced the number of bottles we made, we wouldn't need so much oil. Plastic bottles also pollute the environment. If we recycled all our plastic bottles, we wouldn't need so much space for rubbish dumps. But in Greece, we don't recycle much of the plastic we use. In 2006, Greeks recycled only about 10% of plastic waste. The rest became rubbish on land and in rivers and seas.

So next time you want to throw away a plastic bottle in the litter bin, stop and think. If you recycled it, you would help the environment. But what can you do when there isn't a recycling bin near you? Well, there are lots of useful ways that you can use your bottles again. For example, an empty bottle makes a great piggy bank for your pocket money, and if you cut a bottle in half, you will have a plant pot. Go green! You can make a difference.

1What is NOT mentioned about bottled water in this passage?

    A.It's healthy. B.It's clean. C.It's easy. D.It's expensive.

2Plastic products are made from ______.

    A.energy B.oil C.rubbish D.plants

3______of plastic waste became rubbish in Greece in 2006.

    A.90% B.50% C.80% D.10%

4Which is the best way to deal with used plastic bottles?

A.To drop them into the river. B.To make a piggy bank.

C.To make a plant pot. D.To recycle them.

5The underlined part in this passage tells us "______".

A.To make a different life, you'd better go outside. B.To look different, you'd better wear green clothes.

C.To protect the environment, you can do something. D.To go green, you should use plastic products.

  • 25、During my elementary (基础的) school years, I used to compare my mom with my best friend Tiffany’s mom.

Tiffany’s mom always gave her lots of money to buy the most fashionable clothes and favorite food. Her mom allowed her to do anything she liked. I really admired Tiffany. My mom didn’t give me much pocket money and she always told me that I should behave myself. I was angry with her.

Whenever I didn’t get what I wanted, I would complain to my mom, Tiffany’s mom would give her that! I wish she were my mom. Every time, my mom would calmly say “Poor Tiffany”. I couldn’t understand her. “She shouldn’t be feeling sorry for Tiffany!” I thought. “She should be feeling sorry for me.”

One day, I couldn’t help saying to Mom, “Poor Tiffany? Lucky Tiffany! She gets everything she wants! Why do you feel sorry for her?”I burst into tears.

My mom sat down next to me and said softly. “Yes, I do feel sorry for her. I have been teaching you a lesson that she will never be taught.”

I looked up at her. “What are you talking about?”

Mom said with care, “One day she will really want something. Maybe she’ll find out that she can’t have it. Her mother won’t always be around to give her money, and what’s more, money can’t buy everything.”

She continued, “Ihave taught you useful lessons by not giving you everything you want. You’ll know how to be yourself and save money, but she won’t. You’ll understand that you need to work hard to get the things that you want but she won’t. When Tiffany is a grown woman, she’ll wake up one day and she will be wishing that she had a mom like the one you’ve got. Life lessons are more important than modern clothes and delicious food.”

It took some time, but I finally understood my mom’s words. Now I am a happy and successful woman.

【1】During the author’s elementary school years, she __________.

    B. She cared for other people’s children more than her own.

    C. She thought that life lessons were as important as money.

  • 26、Are you tired of studying all day long? Do you want to do something different? Teens are full of energy, and some are really creative. The following is from an American teen’s Weblog.

I own chickens. At home, my family has seven chickens. I gave them all names, and they are my good friends. You may think that taking care of chickens is easy, but sometimes chickens have minds of their own. If you are considering getting chickens, there are a few things you need to know.

    The pecking order

Chickens have something we call the pecking order. It is the ranking of all the chickens. The order goes from the toughest, biggest chicken, to the smallest, weakest chicken. The chickens figure out this order on their own. Putting chickens together is not easy. You have to make sure they all eat the same food. Otherwise, you have to keep them apart.

    Caring for baby chicks

You must have patience for this. You need to feed them very good food to them, so they stay healthy and become immune to diseases. You also need a place for them to stay in your house and a special feeder and water holder. You can get day-old chicks, or you can get chicks that are 6 months and older. Also, you should clean the pen regularly, so neighbors don’t complain.

    Anybody can have chickens

You just have to know what you are doing and always be prepared. Chickens can bring families together. They are fun and humorous, beautiful and loving. They are also smart. It’s amazing how quickly they learn things on their own. So why not consider getting some of your own feathered friends?

    1What is pecking order ?

    A. It’s the ranking of all the chickens.

    B. It goes from the smallest chicken to the biggest.

    C. The chicken owners make the order.

    B. Find a safe place for them to stay.

    C. Get a special feeder and water holder.

    D. Give them names.

    A. How to choose good chickens.

    B. How to get along with chickens.

    C. It takes hard work to raise chickens.

    D. Chickens can bring people joy.

5Why does the writer keep chickens?

    A. Because taking care of chickens is easy.

    B. Because the neighbors don’t complain about it.

    C. Because chickens have a friend’s quality..

    D. Because chickens have minds of their own..

  • 27、   During ancient times, children didn’t have much to enjoy themselves. However, they came up with interesting games to play in their childhood.

Kites have quite a long history. The earliest kites were made of wood, instead of paper. The three most famous kites are the Beijing kite, Tianjin kite and Weifang kite. Each has its own feature. For example, the bird-shaped kite with long wings is a special kind of the Beijing kite.

    Watching shadow plays

  • 28、   It was August in Paris. Most people were out of the city, enjoying their summer holiday. The streets were e1 and restaurants were closed.

But on a Saturday morning at 9 a.m., I was standing in a queue. I was waiting to see Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, the world's most famous artwork. I bought the ticket in advance. However, by the time I arrived at the Louvre(卢浮宫), there had been a very long l2.

It took me around 30 minutes to pass the security check. As I entered the museum, I found the second airport-style queue of the day. The queue moved forward s3 and silently. It's just like a trip to lKEA. You have to be patient because it takes much time to move forward. However, you have to walk, eyes-down, past lots of sofas and tables before you reach what you need.

The only sign the Mona Lisa was c4 was a forest of security officers. Only ten people were allowed to view the painting at a time. A poster outside the pen(围栏)warned. "The Mona Lisa has many admirers. Please keep you visit short and sweet to give e5 a chance to meet her."

"How short is short and sweet?" I wondered. Very short, it turned out.

My watch clocked only 22 seconds from entering the pen before two staff members told me it was time to g6. "One photo and leave," they said. I tried to take a selfie, but an arm quickly came to guide me onwards. Behind me, the queue moved forward, ten by ten, to take a photo and leave.

I was almost a7 as I admired the other artworks in the Louvre. I couldn't help wondering: Why are there so many people to see the Mona Lisa and so few to see the other artworks? Are we really going to appreciate the famous artworks or are we just "checking in" at the "popular" attractions?
