24、 How do you feel about nature? After spending hours indoors, do you feel better when you visit your local park? I believe the answer must be “YES”. We should walk into nature so that we can enjoy the natural beauties around.
Most people think that nature is good for our bodies and brains. However, humans are spending more time inside and less time outside. For example, the number of visitors to Canada’s national parks is getting lower every year. And in countries such as the USA, only 10% of teenagers spend time outside every day. Many doctors feel that this is a problem in the twenty-first century.
As a result, some doctors are studying the connection between nature and health: one example of this is the work of Dr. Matilda in Sweden. The doctor gave people a math test. During the test, their heart rates (心率) were fast. After the test, one group of people sat in a 3D-virtual-reality (虚拟现实) room for fifteen minutes with pictures and sounds of nature. Their heart rates were slower than people’s in the other group.
The virtual touch with nature helped them feel more relaxed. The natural world allows our brains to rest and slow down, and can trigger positive feelings and a sense of peace. Being in nature can leave us feeling happier and less stressed. Another good example of how nature is good for health comes from Canada. In Toronto, researchers studied 31,000 people living in the city. In general, they found that healthier people lived near parks.
Because of studies like these, some countries and cities want nature to be part of people’s everyday life. In Dubai, for example, there are plans for a new shopping mall with a large garden so shoppers can relax outside with trees, plants and water. And South Korea is another good example: it has new forests near its cities and around 13 million people visit these forests every year. Exposure to nature has been thought to be necessary for brain development in children. In Switzerland, “forest schools” are popular. Schoolchildren study their subjects in the forests and do lots of exercise outside. So after building cities for so long, perhaps it’s now time to start rebuilding nature.
Nature holds a special kind of energy: it is pure and wild and spirit-renewing. In a word, the human being cannot live without nature, and Mother Nature makes us grow stronger.

25、Ancient and Modern Chinese
①In the Beginning
When people write in English, they use letters. People who write in Chinese, however, use characters that stand for words or ideas. Historians believe Chinese writing began as early as 1500 BC. The earliest forms were called “oracle bones” These were animal bones marked with pictures and symbols. Besides writing on bones, the Chinese people also made marks on turtle shells(龟壳). By 1400 BC, the Chinese writing system had become more difficult. It had more than 2,500 characters. Around 200 BC, Chinese characters became standardized. This means that everyone used the same characters.
②Then and Now
Many modern Chinese characters are similar to those from 2,000 years ago. For example, the character that means “man” in the Lishu system from 200 BC is similar to the character that means “man” from the Jiantizi, or modern simplified system, of the twentieth century.
③A Simpler System
People have made efforts to change Chinese characters over the centuries. The most important changes happened in the twentieth century. The Chinese government made many characters easier so that more people could learn to read. This simpler system is used on the Chinese mainland and in Singapore. Traditional characters are used in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of China. Even with these changes, Chinese writing from 2,200 years ago is still understood today.

26、I went to England last year. I enjoyed my stay, and I noticed something interesting with the English way of life.
For example, you must say Mr or Mrs when you meet someone for the first time. When you get to know each other better or when they ask you to, you can just use their first names.
One day, we visited some friends and had afternoon tea together. Afternoon tea is not just a drink but a light meal at around 4 pm. We ate sandwiches and a large fruit cake. In England, you usually drink tea with milk. So I tried to drink tea with milk too.
Fish and chips is traditional food in England. You can buy it and eat it in special fish and chip shops on the high street, or you can take it away and eat it with your fingers! It is delicious!
At the bus stop, you must not push your way onto the bus. You need to stand in a line and wait your turn. Sometimes people are slow to get on the bus. Once I noticed a gentleman touch a young man on the shoulder, smile politely and say, “Excuse me! Are you waiting for this bus?” He was really polite.
【1】When you are talking to your friends, you may call them_________.

27、 In an inspiring(鼓舞人心的)follow-up to the Titanic story, Reader's Digest national affairs editor David tells of a family treasure that survived the fatal tragedy(灾难性的悲剧)on April 15, 1912.
My great uncle Denis boarded the Titanic as a third-class passenger at Queenstown, Ireland. He was 21, a jockey from County Cork who was offered a job riding horses for an American family. His older brother Michael, my grandfather, who had made his own trip across the Atlantic a few years earlier, was waiting for him in New York. In one version(版本)of the story- different family members recall hearing different details over the years-Michael sent Denis a proper overcoat so he wouldn’t look too poor when he came through Ellis Island. That may or may not be true. What we know for sure is that Denis didn’t make it, .
As the ship was sinking(下沉), Denis, who is sometimes listed as Thomas in Titanic passenger records, wrote a note to Michael. He gave the note and his overcoat to a woman in a lifeboat and asked her to see that his brother got them. She did. A photo of my grandfather wearing what we have always called “the Titanic coat” holds a special place in the family archives(档案室). In the picture, he looks small but well-dressed with several servants around him.
No one knows what the note said —that part of the story got lost over the past hundred years—and I often wonder what few words Denis chose that night. I also wonder what he was thinking later, as he stood on that deck(甲板)with the coat and faced the end of his too short life in that cold ocean calmly and bravely, under those cold stars.

B.The writer finally knew what the note said.
C.Denis continued to live after the accident in the end.

A.Titanic—the Unsinkable Ship. B.A Fatal Tragedy.

【4】In which part of a newspaper can you read the article?
A.My Favorite Movies. B.Heroes in My Heart.
