四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、The history of Chinese characters dates back to ancient times, with the history of at least several thousand years.

There are many tales and legends about the origin of hanzi, Chinese characters: there is Cangjie, the legendary inventor of Chinese character; the ancient practice of knot-tying; the eight trigrams(八卦); and ancient painting legends to name a few. It is generally agreed that hanzi began as simple pictures, images that the ancient Chinese people drew, painted or carved to describe nature or their lives. Other ancient cultures developed picture-based writing systems as well, such as the hieroglyphs(象形文字) of ancient Egypt or the script of the ancient Mayan civilization. Hanzi, however, is the only one of these ancient writing systems to survive.

Today, Chinese characters are the oldest continuously used system of writing in the world. Researchers generally agree that the oldest symbols recognizable as Chinese characters are those found on ancient oracle bones. These 3000-year-old symbols, known as, jiaguwen, were carved on turtle shells or bones of animals. The jiaguwen can give all of us in the modern era insight into how ancient Chinese saw the world around them and into their great creativity in expressing their observations. Take, for example, the modern character jia, meaning home or family. The jiaguwen character looks like a house with a nice pig inside, originating from the ancient idea that a good family home has plenty of food. Over thousands of years, this hanzi evolved into a variety of different forms but finally developed in a more stable manner after the unification of China under Emperor Oinshihuang.

When you first look at Chinese characters, you will most likely feel that they are very complicated. However, if you know just a little about how these characters are formed, you will find that they are not nearly as difficult as they seem. About 80% of Chinese characters are composed of smaller parts, known as radicals(部首), which are combined in many different ways to form tens of thousands of hanzi. Fortunately, you need to know only about two or three thousand characters for use in daily life!

As China takes its place in the international community, the Chinese writing system has spread to other countries. Today, many international students are studying Chinese, both the spoken and written language, and are coming to appreciate China’s fascinating culture. And, as China’s culture and society have continued to develop, the amazingly versatile Chinese characters(hanzi)have been adapted for use in digital format on computers and other devices. And so written Chinese lives on, spreading Chinese culture wherever it goes.

【1】Why did the writer mention Emperor Qinshihuang in the passage?

A.Because he was the inventor of Chinese characters.

B.Because hanzi evolved into a variety of different forms.

C.Because he helped developed hanzi in a more steady form.

D.Because he unified China and created hanzi.

【2】What can we learn from the underlined sentence(划线句子)in Paragraphr4?

A.Radicals are smaller parts which can be combined to form hanzi.

B.Chinese characters are composed of radicals.

    C.Chinese characters can be combined.

D.Radicals can be combined into thousands of hanzi only.

【3】What may the writer probably talk about Chinese characters in the next paragraph?

A.The relation between Chinese characters and Chinese culture.

B.Tips for foreigners on how to learn Chinese well.

    C.Another Chinese traditional culture.

    D.The origin of Chinese characters.

【4】What is NOT true about the jiaguwen?

A.The jiaguwen is known as the oldest Chinese character,

B.From the jiaguwen, we can know how ancient Chinese saw the world.

C.The jiaguwen was invented 3000 years ago.

D.We can find the jiaguwen on turtle bones.

Zack: Hey you guys, it would be a shame to stay inside on a day like this. How about taking the bus to Stanley and going to the beach?

    Tim: [excitedly] That sounds great.

Kelly: I'm in! But can we go to the mall first so I can get some suntan oil?

Zack: [hesitantly (犹豫地)] Well, Kelly, I suppose we've got time...

Vera: And we can stop off in Tsim Sha Tsui and get something to eat first. I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll be able to get anything good once we get there.

    Zack: I don't know, Vera — it's already eleven o'clock..

Tim: Actually, why don't we have a look at Stanley Market before we go to the beach? The bus stops right in front of the market. I want to look for some casual shirts and trousers.

Kelly: Oh, yes, Tim, let’s do that. Maybe they have some trendy swim suits, and some jewellery…

Zack: [to himself] This is really awful! [to the others] Look, I don’t want to go to a restaurant or go shopping — I just want to go to the beach on a nice day. You all said you'd go with me, but if you don't want to, you don't have to. See you later.

[on the telephone] Hi, Zack? Look, just wait at the bus stop for me. I'm coming now. I won’t go to the mall.

Tim: Tell him I'm coming too. We don't need to stop at the market.

Vera: [sighs (吸气)] Oh, all right. I can risk having lunch at the beach, I guess.

Kelly: [on the telephone] Zack? We're all coming now. We should all enjoy this great day together.

  • 26、请认真阅读下列短文,然后从每小题所给的A、B、C、D选项四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

What do you think about mistakes? Maybe you say no one likes making mistakes. But mistakes lead to growth.

Converge Magazine recently published articles about mistakes students should make. It suggests students need to live a balanced life, even in the college environment.

According to the topic of the article, there are four mistakes students should make. The mistakes include:

Think they pick the wrong major (专业)

A student should explore any possibility that interests him, and future careers might just be around the corner. Remember, if you don’t know what to do, it’s OK!

    Think their teachers know everything

Students may think of their teachers as gods who know everything, but that really is not the case. Students should know teachers are the ones who can help us understand better. Students can research answers on their own and get their own opinions instead of having their teachers tell them the answers.

    Think they get too involved

Getting good grades is very important, but it’s only a part of the life. Joining clubs and learning about social situations are all good for teenagers’ growth. It will not only make the students more knowledgeable but also create interest in their education.

Think taking a day off is a waste of time

Now, students are under too much pressure. It’s necessary for them to relax now and then. But they always keep in mind how that might influence their schoolwork. Take a day off to relax, and you may get an energetic student the next day. Just don’t do it too often.

【1】 The articles published on Converge Magazine are about ______.

    A. students’ college life

    B. college environment

    C. students’ mistakes

    D. students’ future career

【2】 Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

    A. Making mistakes is good for growth.

    B. Students can learn everything from the teachers.

    C. Joining clubs helps students learn a lot.

    D. It’s necessary for students to live a balanced life.

    【3】The writer thinks that ______.

    A. students should pick the right major

    B. getting grades is all for students

    C. relaxing at times is necessary for students

    D. teachers shouldn’t make mistakes

  • 27、The place of the family computer may turn into a hot argue as your children get older. Whether you have one computer in the house or five, you should think the following things as you make a final decision.

There is a certain number of danger if you allow your children to have a computer with Internet in their rooms with no parental direction. They may share improper information and chat with strangers if they know that no one will be watching.

This does not mean that you cannot allow your children to have a computer in their rooms. Think allowing a computer without Internet. This is especially useful for teens who use the computer for creative projects, playing video games and listening to music. Keep in mind, however, that it is possible that your kids are more skilled at computers than you are and may remove any blocks you have in place.

    Computer Use

The way your family computers are used will play a role in deciding where they should be placed. A machine used only for homework will need to be in a quiet place where there is low traffic. One used for chatting online can be in the room where most of the family spend their time. If Mom and Dad use a computer for work, those needs will also have to be thought.

    Space

Space must also be considered in computer placement. The computer will need electricity, plenty of desk space and a spot away from this bright light of windows. You will not want it placed in a room where your kids may be noisy.

    【1】The text is written for__________.

    A. teachers B. parents   C. students   D. children

2Which of the following might be a danger to children?

    A. Chatting with strangers.  B. Doing their homework.

    C. Playing video games. D. listening to music.

3What might be the best place for family computers used by students?

    A. Beside a window.   B. Near the door.

    C. At the corner.   D. In front of a TV set.

4Which world can be put in the empty box?

    A. Safety. B. Difficulty.

    C. Friendship.   D. Attention

5What can we learn from the text?

    A. A child should not be allowed to use a computer.

    B. A child should not be allowed to get online.

    C. A computer takes up a lot of desk space.

    D. Many things decide the place of family computers.
