  • 25、   Have you ever had dreams about building a robot? Or putting together a spaceship? Or even seeing your face made out of chocolate? Done. All you need is a 3-D printer (打印机)!

The possibilities of 3-D printing seem endless. All the user has to do is to design (设计) an object on the computer and choose a material to print in. The printers print in hundreds of different materials including glass, sugar and even skin! When the user presses “print”, the 3-D printer spreads the material layer () by layer and like magic the object is produced.

The first 3-D printer was invented in 1986 by an American, Charles Hull. But 3-D printing has only become cheap enough recently for most people to use. Designers now use 3-D printing to create unusual things. The Dutch artist Dirk Vander Kooj prints furniture (家具) made from old fridges. And doctors have used 3-D printing to print human body parts! A newspaper reported in February that scientists from Cornell Medical College even printed a man-made ear.

But like a lot of new technologies, if 3-D printing gets into the wrong hands, it can be dangerous. In 2011 a group of four men in the US used 3-D printing to produce ATM skimmers (提款机盗刷器). These were placed on an ATM and stole over $400,000 from users of the ATM. It is terrible to think that criminals like them might one day use a 3-D printer to print a gun.

But for better or for worse, 3-D printing has been put into use. In a few years, you’ll probably be wondering how you could ever live without your 3-D printer!

1__________ invented the first 3-D printer.

    A.Charles Hull B.Dirk Vander Kooj

C.A doctor called Cornell D.Four men in the US

2What is the correct order for people to use a 3-D printer?

    a. Choose a material.   b. The 3-D printer spreads the material.   c. Press the print button.

    d. Use a computer to design an object.

    A.a-b-c-d B.d-a-b-c C.a-c-d-b D.d-a-c-b

3The underlined word “gets into the wrong hands” in the fourth paragraph might mean __________  in English.

A.the hands caught by the printer B.to get into trouble

C.the hands used in a wrong place D.to do something bad

4What does the writer think of the 3-D printer?

A.It is necessary only for our work. B.It is too expensive for most people.

C.It is helpful but dangerous. D.It is useless in our daily life.

  • 26、   You may have traveled by plane before, but do you know how these big “birds” fly in the sky?

Last year, a group of US students visited Mitchell International Airport. They got the chance to see how pilots work and learn something else in the airport.

The students were taking part in the project Be the Spark Education Tours. They went to factories, IT companies, newspaper offices and other places to see what jobs are really about. This time, they got the chance to go to the airport.

A girl, Kyra Aguillard, said that it was really cool to see the pilots and to actually look inside the places where the pilots work. Along with other students, Aguillard went through security checkpoints(安全检查处), walked on the areas where planes often stand. And they even went into the cockpit(驾驶舱). Everything in the pilot's room made her so excited. Since then, the 13 year old girl has made up her mind to be a pilot in the future.

During the trip, the students were also given some talks about how to build a plane and how to make it fly. The talks were clear and understandable.

“The students are learning in math, science and other classes. We wish to offer them a good chance to see the things that they have learned really connect with the real world. So they can open their eyes and minds to a successful future,” said Mary Steinbrecher, the director of the project.

1The project Be the Spark Education Tours offers students chances to ___________.

However, it’s best to forgive them and try to make friends with them again.

五、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 28、   Unless you are one of those rare people with an excellent memory, you probably have trouble remembering the names of people you have just met. This problem can be frustrating(令人沮丧的)and embarrassing. F1, there are a number of ways you can overcome this human weakness.

Before examining the methods to help remember people’s names, let’s look at the reasons why we are so f2 in the first place. Researchers think it’s due to a lack of motivation. People are better at remembering things that they want too learn. To put it simply, you’re just not that i3. Another reason is that putting a new face to a name is more complicated than we think, which leads to another problem. We usually don’t make the effort to m4 new names immediately. Not only that, but when meeting someone new, we may be thinking about other things and not be paying enough attention.

All of this means that we need to take measures to avoid the embarrassment of forgetting a person’s name. One good method is to say a person’s name when you g5 them and also repeat it silently to yourself a few times. This type of repetition is essential for learning any type of skill. Using a memory method, such as l6 individual names with something else, also helps. For example, if someone’s name is Ben and he is tall, you can label himto yourself, of course“Big Ben.”In addition, focusing on people and listening more closely when you meet them will assist you in recalling their names. Although forgetting name isn’t a matter of life or death, it’s uncomfortable. Putting these t7 into practice will help you better avoid this social discomfort.
