四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Students in Denmark take national tests on a computer at different times. About 4 years’ test results, researchers found something interesting. Students who took the test in the morning scored higher than those who took it in the afternoon.

So what happens? We might have noticed that in the afternoon we become less productive (有效率) and the work we do is of lower quality (质量). A lot of people around the world experience the same thing every day. That’s called the afternoon slump (低迷).

There’s a reason why this happens. Our bodies are controlled by our circadian rhythm ( 昼夜节律) which is like a clock. It tells our bodies when to go to sleep and wake up. Our energy levels change with the circadian rhythm.

We are smarter and more energetic during some parts of the day, while during others, we are less energetic. For example, during the night we experience a large drop in energy, especially between 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.. However, our energy slowly rises after waking up until it reaches a peak (峰值) in the late morning. But that peak is then followed by an afternoon low, which we call the afternoon slump. The low appears about seven hours after waking up, which is usually between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for most people. This is the time when people make more mistakes during the daytime. When the afternoon slump is over, it rises again. But as our body gets ready for sleep, it slowly drops.

________ Stretching (拉伸) for even 20 seconds, taking a break for about 15 minutes, eating a bar of black

chocolate and so on can have a huge influence on your energy levels. Hopefully, you have a better idea about the afternoon slump and what we can do about it.

    【1】The afternoon slump makes people________.

    A.feel sad

    B.become less productive

    C.feel more energetic

    D.improve work quality

【2】According to the passage, the circadian rhythm has a big influence on our________.

    A.habits

    B.energy levels

    C.looks

    D.learning skills

【3】Which of the following sentences can be put in the ________?

A.Some of our habits may make the afternoon slump even worse.

B.It’s important for us to know why the afternoon slump happens.

C.It’s difficult to avoid the afternoon slump, so we should do nothing about it.

D.The afternoon slump is natural, but there are some ways to get energy back.

【4】Picture ________ shows the change of the energy level with the time.

    A.

    B.

    C.

    D.

  • 27、   During the summer holiday, some students might have been busy with traveling, summer camps and all kinds of courses. But a special group of Chinese middle school students decided to taste the hardship of life outside school.

Twelve students in a big city sold vegetables at a local market together. Within 12 days, they made more than 1,500 yuan.

Among them, the oldest is 21 years old, while the youngest is just 10. They are all cousins in a big family and eight of them are from rural areas.

“Compared to traveling, such social practice connects us and makes us learn how tough our parents are,” said Dalin, 18, to the City Morning Post. Dalin, a senior high graduate, and her 12-year-old brother Xiaolin came up with the idea.

They learned to work hard to sell their vegetables. Every morning they had to wake up at 3 o’clock. Some of them went to the farmer’s market to buy vegetables. Some of them went to the local market to take up a temporary stall(临时摊位). To lower the cost, they learned to bargain(讲价) with the sellers.

At about 6:30 am, they began to sell vegetables. They peddled(吆喝) loudly to attract customers. After several days, they got some experience, too.

For example, it was better to put vegetables in order and bigger ones on top. When the vegetables are too heavy, they should give customers an extra plastic bag.

When they finally packed up and went home, they had a small meeting. Everyone took notes and shared their feelings.

“We are tired,” said Dalin. “but we gained a lot.”

1In the writer’s opinion, the 12 students’ action was ________.

  • 28、   “Problems and worries are normal (正常) in life.”says Lucy. “But I think talking to someone helps a lot. If we don’t talk to someone, we’ll certainly feel1.”

Lucy once lost her 2, and worried for days. She was afraid to tell her parents about it. She even walked three miles to school each day because she didn’t have any money. She just kept 3of the problem again and again in her mind. “If I tell my parents, they will be angry!” But in the end, she talked to her parents and they were really 4. Her dad said that he5made careless mistakes himself. They got her a new wallet and asked her to be more careful. “I will always remember to 6my problems in the future!” Lucy says.

Robert Hunt advises students about common 7. He feels the same way as Lucy. “It is best not to avoid our problems. We should always try to solve them.” He thinks that you can first find someone to talk to. This person doesn’t need to be an expert (专家) like himself. Students often forget that their parents have more8than them, and are always there to 9them.

In English, we say that sharing a problem is like cutting it in half. So you’re halfway to solving a problem if you talk to10about it.
