  • 23、Next time you' re in a public place, take a look around you, and see how many people are using their phones.  【1】

In fact, I' m an example of this, but it always amazes me how people can spend so much time on their phones.

For example, I recently visited London and traveled on the subway while I was there.  2  Being underground it is difficult to get any signal (信号) and people couldn't use the Internet. They were playing games, reading articles or listening to music on their phones.  3

Recently, my smart phone broke and I had it repaired. So I had to use a really old phone.  4  And I loved it. I loved being free from the Internet, and I really didn' t mind not getting updates (更新) on what my friends were doing. It allowed me to enjoy my time in London more and I could watch the people around me and really see what was going on.

5  Perhaps I should just continue to use the old phone and forget I ever got my smart phone back...

    根据材料,将A—E五个句子还原到文中空白处,使短文完整、通顺,并将其标号填写在下面题号后的横线上。

    A. All I could do on this phone was to send text messages, make calls and play one game.

    B. But I am sure that as soon as they came out from the subway station they would start calling or checking their e-mails.

    C. I can tell you now that it is probably more than half.

    D. Usually some people were asleep, and nearly everybody else was using their phones.

    E. However, I knew that as soon as I got my smart phone back I would be one of those people once again.

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Do you love seeing beautiful lanterns (灯笼) outside? The best time to do this is during the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first lunar (阴历) month. This year it is on March 2, marking the end of Spring Festival celebrations.

Lanterns are a big part of the festival. One story says that the bright lanterns show respect to gods. Another says that people light lanterns to celebrate the disappearance of darkness of winter.

Watching lanterns is a great event. You see lanterns in any sizes and shapes you can imagine, from animals to plants and flowers. To make this activity more fun, people put riddles (谜语) on the lanterns. In some places, people like releasing sky lanterns, which are called Kongming lanterns. A sky lantern is a small hot air balloon made of paper, with an opening at the bottom where there is a small fire source. When the bright lights fly high in the sky, people make wishes.

In old times, the Lantern Festival was also romantic(浪漫). At that time, young girls were not allowed to go out very often except during certain festivals. Therefore, looking at lanterns gave young people a chance to meet each other. A line from Xin Qiji, a poet during the Song Dynasty, shows this: “Restlessly, I searched for her in thousands, hundreds of ways. Suddenly I turned, and there she was in the receding light.”

1When is the Lantern Festival this year?

    A. On January 15th.   B. On March 2nd.   C. On January 2nd.   D. On March 15th.

4Why was the Lantern Festival romantic in old times?

    A. Because it gave young people to meet each other.

    B. Because it offered lanterns in different colors.

    C. Because the streets were busy and beautiful.

    D. Because people could enjoyed beautiful lanterns.

  • 25、Take a Moment to Really See

I was driving to a meeting and I was planning in my mind what I was going to say. I came to a very busy crossroads but the stop light just turned red. "All right" I thought to myself. "I can beat the next light if I race ahead of the line."

Suddenly my thought was broken by an unforgettable sight(情景). A young couple, both blind, were walking am-in-arm across the busy crossroads. They couldn't see. Cars were running by in every direction. Each of them held a white cane(手杖) which helped them to cross the road.

I was moved. They were fighting against blindness. "Wouldn't it be terrible to be blind?" I thought. My line of thought was quickly broken by what I saw: the couple were not walking in the crosswalk but into the path (路) of oncoming cars. I was frightened.

But I didn't see an accident. Something wonderful happened. Every car in every direction came to a stop almost at the same time. Suddenly a driver stuck(伸出) his head out of his car and shouted, "To your right. To your right!" Other people followed, shouting, "To your right!" They all wanted to help.

Without a stop, the couple changed their direction. They trusted their white canes and the help of some caring people. They came to the other side of the road safely..

I have thought of this situation many times since it happened and have learned something from it. "Slow down and smell the roses." Do yourself a favor as you walk through life. Take time to look around and really see what is going on around you right now. Maybe you are missing something wonderful.

A.he was very angry B.he wanted to help

C.he was in a hurry D.he waited for a long time

If you get lost, you may stay where you can be seen clearly and try your best to have a rest. In a wide open area, make a colorful cross out of rocks to show where you stay.

When you choke (噎住) at home, make a sudden hit against the back of the chair. If you can’t breathe after six tries, call 120. Leave the telephone open until help arrives.

If you get hurt, use your hand or a scarf, or any dry cloth you can find, and push down on the wound (伤口) until the blood stops running. Don’t put the cloth around your leg tightly, or you may lose your foot.

When a fire happens, you must move close to the floor. Cover your mouth and nose with a wet towel (毛巾), make you wet from head to foot if possible and find a safe place outside.
