四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Almost every Chinese person can recite the two lines of the famous poem,“Every grain on the plate comes from hard work(谁知盘中餐,粒粒皆辛苦).” But sadly, many of us don’t actually get the real meaning of these lines: Don't waste food.

A CCTV program,News One Plus One,reported that the food Chinese people throw away every year is enough to feed 200 million people for a year.

Do we have too much food? Of course not.According to the UN World Food Program, there were 925 million hungry people around the world in 2010,especially in developing countries.Six million children die of hunger every year.

Chinese people are well known for being hospitable(好客的) and generous. Many even feel that they lose face if their guests have eaten all the food on the table.

Luckily,a number of people have realized the importance of saving food.Last November,Li Hong,a waitress in a restaurant in Nanjing, got fired (解雇)because she took some leftover food home for her son. Many people stood by her side and criticized(批评) the waste of food.

What should we do in our daily lives to waste less food? Here are some tips:

1.Do not order too much in a restaurant.Only order as much as you want to eat.If you cannot eat all the food you ordered, take the rest of it home.

2.Don't be too picky(挑剔的) about food. Some food may not taste great, but your body needs it.

3.Keep an eye on what food you have at home.Don't buy too much, especially for vegetables and fruit.

1What does the writer want to show us through Li Hong's story?

    A. Many Chinese restaurants waste a large amount of food.

    B. Many Chinese people are kindhearted and ready to help the weak.

    C. Chinese people feel that they lose face if their guests eat all the food.

    D. Many Chinese people don't agree with the behavior of wasting food.

    2From the third paragraph,we know that ________.

    A. we have too much food to feed people in the world

    B. there were 925 million people in developing countries

    C. because of hunger, six million children die every year

    D. there are only a few people getting hungry every year

    3According to the passage,we shouldn't waste food because ________.

    A. food comes from very hard work

    B. six million children die of hunger every day

    C. there is enough food to feed all the people

    D. Chinese are hospitable and generous

4Which of the following is a good way to save food?

    A. Ordering more than you need at a restaurant.

    B. Taking home restaurant leftovers.

    C. Not knowing what you already have at home when shopping.

    D. Not eating the food you don't like even if it's healthy.

5What's the main idea of the passage?

    A. Don't waste food.

    B. Many people die of hunger.

    C. Don't be picky about food.

    D. Eat all the food you order.

  • 26、   No one knows when the first kite was made. The first record of a kite was more than 2,000 years ago in China. Han Xin, the leader of an army, wanted to bring down a king. He decided to dig a tunnel (隧道) into the king’s palace. He flew a kite over the wall of the palace to make sure of the length of its string (细绳). In this way, he could determine how long the tunnel should be. His men in the tunnel took the kite string with them. When they reached the end of the string, they knew to dig up.

Kites have been flown in Japan for hundreds of years. In the 1700s, kites were flown in autumn to give thanks for a good harvest. They were also flown to send good wishes to couples who had their first son. Today in Japan, kites are often flown as part of a celebration, such as the beginning of a new year. And kite festivals are held each year in many parts of the country.

Kites have been used for scientific purposes in the western world. In 1752, Benjamin Franklin tied a key to a kite and flew it in a storm to find out that lightning was a form of electricity. In the 1890s, Lawrence Hargrave invented the box kite to test ideas about flight. From 1898 until 1933, the United States Weather Bureau(气象局) used box kites to collect weather data. The Wright brothers also experimented(实验) with kites. What they learned helped them make the first air plane flight in 1903.

1Why did Han Xin want to dig a tunnel?

A.To pull down the palace. B.To fight against the king.

C.To search for the kings treasure. D.To find out the length of the kite string.

2What does the underlined word "determine” in Paragraph 1 probably mean in Chinese?

    A.测定 B.选择 C.了解 D.考察

3One of the purposes of flying kites in Japan is ________.

A.to give thanks for a good harvest in summer

B.to express good wishes to the first-born daughter

C.to celebrate the beginning of a new year

D.to hold kite festivals all over the country

  • 27、   Can we forget bad memories? Someone might tell you that time is the only "cure". But this might be not true. Researchers at Canada's McGill University have tested a pill that can help you forget bad memories. They tested it on 60 people and found it to be successful.

All 60 people had experienced painful romantic relationships and wanted to forget them. In the test, they were asked to write about these bad memories. Then, they took a pill that is usually used to treat high blood pressure (血压). They then recalled their bad memories by reading what they wrote earlier. In the end, they talked about their feelings, saying that finally they could forget their bad experiences. Dr. Alain Brunet, who led the study, believes that the pill can reduce the pain that bad memories bring. People can take it after bad things happen to them.

How did the pill do this? In fact, your memories change all the time. They're like text files (文件)on your computer. Every time you recall and "open" the files, you might happen to make some changes and "save" them. Researchers believe that the pill can stop proteins ( 白质)in the brain from "re-saving" these memories. This means some details of the memory are lost

However, there are some worries about this treatment. Some people might use it to forget things that they should learn from, such as when they broke the law. People are discussing which kinds of memories should be forgotten with this pill.

1The study found the pill could help people ______.

A.recall happy memories B.remember things more easily

C.control their feelings D.forget bad experiences

2What did the 60 people do in the test?

A.They took a pill that helped them sleep.

B.They wrote about all their memories.

    C.They recalled their bad memories.

    D.They opened the text files.

    3Paragraph 3 is mainly about _______.

A.how our memories change over time

B.how the pill stops bad things from happening

C.how the research group created the pill

D.how the pill helps us forget bad memories

4What can we get from the story?

A.The pill might come with some problems.

B.The pill can stop criminals from breaking the law.

C.The writer doesn't think the pill is good.

    D.All memories should be forgotten.

5The passage is probably from ______.

A.a story book B.a magazine C.a novel D.a comic book

The police are starting to use “super - recognisers” to spot criminal faces in videos of crowds. As well as surprising our holidaymaker in Spain six years later, this ability can be used for a very practical purpose indeed.
