It’s not WASTE until it is WASTED! With the World Environment Day coming, our school is now requiring every student to form a habit of sorting the waste. Here in our schoolyard we lay four different colors of rubbish bins for different kinds of rubbish. The red is for harmful waste; the blue is for waste that can be recycled(循环再用); the green is for kitchen waste; the yellow is for other waste. The followings are some instructions for you. Glass: Empty bottles without caps can be recycled to make new glass bottles. Warning: Mirrors and light bulbs must not be included in the glass waste. Paper: Newspapers, magazines, boxes must be clean enough to be recycled. Warning: Paper tissues and wallpaper are not recyclable as paper and should be kept separately. PMD waste: Packaging made of Plastic or Metal and Drink boxes are used to make new packaging. Warning: Plastic pots (e.g. yoghurt pots), plastic bags must not be included with the PMD waste. Harmful waste: out-of-date drugs, used batteries(电池), paint and oil … Besides, if you don’t need your old bikes at all, our school volunteers will collect them. We’re going to fix them up and then give them away to kids who don’t have enough money for a bike. To find out more about recycling, you can visit our school website. |

26、A new font(字体)designed by a Finnish software company could make your writing more polite. And hopefully it could help reduce cyberbullying(网络暴力).
Polite Type, developed by TietoEVRY, replaces(代替)harmful language with nicer words. For example, if you type “You are ugly,” it will be replaced with “You are not traditionally beautiful.”
“We want bullies(欺凌者)to rethink the words they use and the influence of the words on others,” said the company manager Kia Haring.
The problem of cyberbullying has been around since the Internet was invented. Nearly everyone who has used the Internet has experienced it.
Polite Type is a good step in the right direction. But how do we really deal with cyberbullying? For one, we can choose to be “invisible(隐形的)”. That is, to surf the Internet without making any personal details or leaving any reviews. This, however, forces us to give up our right to “exist(存在)” online.
We can also choose not to care about bullies. However, this isn’t perfect either, as it can be hard to forget people who are especially cruel(残酷的).
A better way is to block(拦截)and report. If you block someone on social media, they won’t see or make reviews on your posts. Most websites have rules against harmful language. If you report a bully to the website, they will often stop that person from using it. It’s best to take direct action like this.
【1】What is Polite Type?
A.A kind of cyberbullying.
B.A Finnish software company.
C.A font that can rewrite harmful language.
D.An organization that deals with bullies.

【4】What are the last three paragraphs about?

B.What we can do to deal with cyberbullying.

Have you heard that humans only use 10 percent of their brain power, and that if you could unlock the rest of your brainpower, you could do so much more? A 2020 study showed that about 65 percent of Americans believe the idea. But it is wrong!
Scientists have shown that humans use their brain throughout each day and every part of the brain is necessary for our daily functioning(功能), whether it’s about colors or problem solving. Research has not find a brain area that is completely inactive, even during simple activities. Many brain imaging studies show how different parts of the brain work together when a person is doing a task.
However, some brain images seem to support the 10 percent idea, because they often show small bright spots on a gray brain. This may suggest that only the bright spots have brain activity, but that isn’t the case. Those bright spots represent brain areas that are more active when someone’s doing a task compared to when they’re not. The gray spots are still active, just to a lower level.
A more direct counter to the 10 percent idea lies in people who have suffered brain damage. These people can no longer do as a result of that damage, or can still do just as well. If the 10 percent idea were true, damage to 90 percent of the brain wouldn’t affect daily life. Yet studies show that damaging even a very small part of the brain may make people disabled or even dead.
The main power of the 10 percent wrong idea is that you could do so much more if only you could unlock the rest of your brain. It’s unclear how the myth spread in the first place, but it has been popular on self-improvement books, which tell you that you can do better.
【1】How did the writer introduce the topic of the passage?
A.By giving examples.
B.By listing data(数据).
C.By raising a question.
D.By telling a story.
【2】What can we learn about our brain?
A.Very few areas of our brains are inactive.
B.Tiny brain damage does not affect daily life.
C.Now few Americans believe the wrong idea.
D.Gray and bright spots represent brain activities.
【3】The underlined word “counter” means _________.
A.support
B.disagreement
C.doubt
D.lie
【4】The last paragraph mainly tells us _________.
A.where the wrong idea started
B.how the wrong idea spread at first
