四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、There are many things we do for the people we love. Some show their love with sweet words, and some with gifts. And one man, 72-year-old Vojin Kusic, has built a rotating(旋转的)house for his beloved wife.

Kusic and his family live in Srbac, Bosnia. Their house is amazing, and what makes it more impressive is that Kusic has designed and built it all by himself. He used electric motors(电动机)and the wheels of an old truck to make the house rotate. The house is two storeys high, and it can rotate a full circle in just 22 seconds at its fastest speed, and complete the turn in 24 hours at its slowest.

Kusic made the decision because his wife said she wanted to be able to see the front yard from the living room, and he was tired of tearing down(拆除)the walls. It took a lot of hard work to build the house and even more to make it rotate, but Kusic was happy to do it, because it meant a lot to his wife.

This is not the first time the man has built a house for his family. When they were first married, he had built a regular, non-rotating home, where he and his wife raised their three children. At the time, his wife wanted their bedroom to face the sun. As a result, their living room had to face away from the road. Then his wife got a little sad that she couldn’t see guests walking up to their home. So Kusic decided to do something different.

Kusic’s wife is now very happy, and so is Kusic. He joked, “Now, our front door also rotates, so if she finds unwanted guests heading our way, she can rotate the house and make them turn away.”

    A.made the house much bigger

B.made the bedroom face the sun

【4】Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?

The BBC is controlled by some governors chosen by the government, but these people have complete freedom and the government can’t interfere. That is to say, the BBC is not the voice of the government. It has to be as fair as possible in giving radio and television time to, for example, political parties and religious groups.

There are four specialized radio channels, which broadcast different kinds of programs. Radio 1 is mainly pop music. Radio 2 is about light music, sports and other programs. Radio 3 broadcasts serious music, talks on serious subjects, etc. news broadcasts are mainly given by radio 4.

  • 27、Last year in the UK at least 45 people died and 900 more were injured (受伤的) in car accidents where drivers were using their mobile phones.Yet many people continue to use them while driving even though it’s dangerous.

Research has shown that it is difficult to concentrate on (专注于) driving and talking at the same time.It can even be more dangerous than driving after drinking too much. A recent study found that when drivers were talking on their mobile phones, their stopping times were 30 percent slower than when they had drunk too much—and nearly 50 percent slower than when they were driving normally. It also found that drivers talking on mobile phones were less able to control their cars than drunk drivers.

And talking isn’t even the most serious problem, but texting is. Unbelievably, another recent study reported that 22% of adults admitted (承认) they had sent a text message while driving at least once in the past month. An average (平均的) text message takes 90 seconds to write and send. That means for one and a half minutes a driver is looking at their phone’s screen and not at the road. The arrival of new smart phones such as the iPhone will only make things worse as they will allow users to do more things than ever before.

Using a mobile phone while driving puts others’ lives at risk. No matter how well we drive,if another driver is not careful,we are put in danger by their actions. Such drivers are selfish, careless and should have their driving licences (驾照) cancelled (撤销).

There is no doubt that mobile phones can be fun and are useful, especially when you’re in trouble. But there is no need to use them while driving. Just wait until you stop or you will probably get into trouble of your own.

【1】The underlined word “them” in Paragraph 1 refers to _______.

    A. phone users B. mobile phones

    C. drivers D. ears

【2】According to the passage,if a driver needs 10 seconds to stop when driving normally, they will need _______ seconds to stop when talking on a mobile phone.

    A. 12 B. 13   C.14   D. 15

【3】According to the passage,in what order do the following activities influence driving?

    Dangerous→More dangerous→Most dangerous

    A. drinking→talking on phone→texting

    B. texting→talking on phone→drinking

    C. talking on phone→drinking→texting

    . drinking→texting→talking on phone

【4】Why will new types of mobile phones make the driving problem worse?

    A. It will take longer to send text messages.

    B. People will want to talk on their phones more often.

    C. There will be more things for people to do with their phones.

    D. People think the new phones are easier and safer to use.

【5】According to the writer, what should be done to people who use mobile phones when driving?

    A. They should be put into prison (监狱).

    B. Their cars should be taken away.

    C. Their phones should be taken from them.

    D. They should not be allowed to drive any longer.

  • 28、We have always been interested in the Moon. 2000 years ago people already knew it

m1around the Earth and where it would be in the sky at different times of the year. At that time, everything about the Moon was learned by watching it c2in the sky.

When scientists could use telescopes to study the Moon more closely, their ideas began to change. They could see the Moon was made of r3. Most scientists thought Moon rocks would be different from those on the Earth. This was because they believed the Moon had once been a planet that had been caught in the Earth’s g4millions of years earlier.

In 1969 Moon rocks were finally brought to the Earth and s5. Much to their surprise, scientists found that, except for water, the Moon and the Earth were made of the s6things. Once again new ideas were needed for this new information.

After years of study, most scientists now think t7the Moon was once part of the Earth. They believe very early in its history, maybe 4 billion (十亿) years ago, something about the size of Mars h8the Earth. This sent billions of rocks into space around our p9. These rocks slowly joined together and after many years became the Moon.

In the future, even though our ideas about the Moon may change again, we will still be i10in it.
