24、In the future, people may travel to Mars by water-powered spaceship! Today’s spaceships are fine for getting things into space, but they are not so good at travelling long distances. These spaceships burn chemical fuels (燃料) and they are very expensive. Scientists say that a water-powered spaceship could make the trip to Mars much cheaper. The idea is just in the planning stages now, but scientists think such a spaceship could be developed soon.
The key to the water-powered spaceship is the engine. Regular engines push spaceships by burning fuel. The water engine will use steam, created by solar panels (太阳能板) that heat water to a high temperature. Of course, the spaceship will have to carry a lot of water for the long trip to Mars.
Today’s spaceships could not carry that much water. But scientists think that a spaceship blown up like a balloon will be able to .
One US company has already developed a spaceship like this. These spaceships are made of a strong material. Two of them have already been sent up into space, using rockets and then later filled with air. “Balloon” spaceships could be very large and carry enough water for a long trip. With the “Balloon” spaceships, enough water could be carried to power the engines and grow food during the trip. And the people on the spaceship might even get to take a hot bath!
Scientists say the biggest advantage of such a spaceship would be cost. The “Balloon” spaceship uses water to push it through space and costs about one thirtieth of a normal spaceship. Such savings naturally encourage continued research into balloon spaceships and water engines. If these scientists are correct, we may soon be on our way to Mars in a spaceship powered by water.
【1】Which sentence best describes the main idea of the passage above?
A.The key to the water-powered spaceship is the engine.
B.In the future, people may travel to Mars by water-powered spaceship.

D.Scientists say it might cost little to run such a spaceship.
【2】What do you think is omitted (省略) at the end of the underlined sentence?
A.use steam
B.push spaceships
C.heat water
D.carry that much water
【3】Besides growing food, what else might astronauts do with the rest of the water?

It was from some of his classmates asking him to join their camping trip. This was the first time he was asked to join in an out-of-school activity. Why were they asking him now? Nobody seemed(似乎)to like him. In fact, he had been so lonely (孤独) that he ate a lot to make himself feel less lonely. 26、Life is always full of stress these days. How do you usually solve your stress? Do you know doing housework is helpful in solving stress? In fact, doing something like washing dirty clothes may really make people relaxed. “Doing some housework such as folding clothes or cleaning the room is a good way to face our stress without taking any medicine,” says Carol Clark, a successful psychologist(心理学家) in New York. She often advises people who are under lots of stress to try doing housework every day. “While washing something,” she says, “you can imagine you're washing away some trouble in your life.”
Do people all agree with her idea? Here are some ideas about it.
“Housework is the main reason for the stress in my life,” says Linda in France(法国). “Get me out of doing the housework and then I'll really be relaxed.”

27、You’re sitting at the dinner table with your dog. You know you shouldn’t give dogs human food, but when you look down, those cute puppy(小狗) eyes are almost impossible to refuse.
Why does this kind of thing happen? A Japanese scientist, Miho Nagasawa, seems to have found the answer: it has something to do with what is called “the cuddle chemical” (拥抱化合物).
In order to better understand how the cuddle chemical works between dogs and humans, Nagasawa and his team carried out an experiment(实验). They tested the levels of the cuddle chemical in dogs and humans, and then put them in a room to interact(互动) with each other.
While in the room, the humans patted(爱抚) the dogs, spoke to the dogs, and looked into the dogs’ eyes. Then the scientists tested their levels of the cuddle chemical again.
The researchers found that the levels of the cuddle chemical were higher in both humans and dogs after they had interacted. However, the levels were the highest in the humans and dogs that had simply looked into each other’s eyes, without much patting or talking.
The results of this study can also tell us a lot about the history of the bond(关系) between humans and dogs.
It all started tens of thousands of years ago. Wolves used to follow humans when they were hunting. Humans realized that they could use the wolves to help with the hunt, and finally, both species(物种) began to work together toward survival. Over time, the wolves and humans started to depend on each other. And they started to bond with each other. These changes are what caused some of the wolves to turn into what we now know as dogs.
This process depended a great deal on the bond that humans formed with them. And according to Nagasawa’s study, the bond was formed with the help of the cuddle chemical.
