四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、

Clothes are important and necessary to us, but do you know how to choose suitable clothes in a correct way? Here are some ideas for you.

When you go shopping and want to buy some clothes, you should think about which kind of clothes you really need and decide how much money you can spend on them. Then look at the labels that are inside the new clothes. They tell you how to take care of the clothes. The label for a shirt may tell you to wash it in warm water. A sweater label may tell you to wash it in cold water. The label on a coat may say “dry clean only” and cleaning in water may ruin this coat. If you do as the directions say on the label, you can keep your clothes looking their best.

Many clothes today must be dry-cleaned. Dry cleaning is expensive. When buying new clothes, you had better check if they need to be dry-cleaned. You can save money if you buy clothes that can be washed or that are well made. Well-made clothes last longer. They look good even after they have been washed many times.

Clothes that cost more money don’t always mean they are better made. They may not fit you, either. On the other hand, less expensive clothes may sometimes look better and fit you well.

【1】The first thing for you to do before you buy clothes is ____.

    A. to know how to wash them

    B. to look for well-made clothes

    C. to read the directions inside them

    D. to see which kind of clothes you need

2According to the passage, a sweater may be _____.

    A. washed in cold water B. washed once a week

    C. washed in hot water   D. dry-cleaned only

3What does the underlined word “label” mean?

    A. 尺寸   B. 品牌 C. 价格   D. 标签

4_____ look good even after they have been washed a lot of times.

    A. Cheap clothes

    B. Expensive clothes

    C. Dry-cleaned clothes

    D. Well-made clothes

5The main idea for the passage is _______.

    A. buying less expensive clothes

    B. washing clothes in a right way

    C. being a clever clothes shopper

    D. choosing the well-made clothes

  • 25、Every time when the holiday comes to an end, how many of you have burned the midnight oil to finish your homework over the last few days? What about during the school year——when you get home from school, do you start working on your homework right away?

It can be hard to be this responsible. A lot of people like to put off difficult tasks until they completely must be done. They’re called procrastinators.

Procrastination is a common problem for many people. In fact, sometimes it just feels easier to wait until the last minute to do certain things. However, this is usually not a good thing, as you have to work harder and faster if you wait until there is little time left. This means your work will probably be of less quality(质量).

I myself am a bit of a procrastinator. But most of time, I try to finish my work earlier rather than later. It just makes more sense(行得通)——if I finish my work now, I’ll have more time to relax or work on other projects later. It can be hard to encourage myself to get started sometimes. But once I do, the work gets done quickly and with little stress.

Everyone procrastinates from time to time. It’s a natural thing to do. You don’t have to beat yourself up(过分自责)over it. After all, we still need time to relax and take a break from our busy lives. Just make sure you still get your homework done on time.

    根据材料内容选择最佳答案。

【1】What does the phrase “burn the midnight oil” in Paragraph 1 mean?

    A.work fast

    B.stay up late

    C.break a lamp into pieces

    D.work secretly

【2】“Procrastinators” refer to people who __________________.

A.don’t do their homework during vacations

B.often finish their tasks earlier than others

C.put off their work until the last minute

D.are not responsible for the quality of their work

【3】What’s the bad effect(影响)of being procrastinators?

A.You will have less time to play.

    B.You will be too tired.

C.Your work will be done not so well.

D.Your work will be done perfectly.

【4】What does Paragraph 4 talk about?

A.How the writer usually deals with his work.

B.Why people should all finish their work earlier.

C.How people can stop putting off their work.

D.What the writer does to overcome procrastination.

【5】The writer probably agrees that _______________________.

A.it is hard for people to finish work on time

B.procrastination is not a serious problem

C.people feel less stressed after putting off their work

D.people should relax before doing their work

Topic: How Can We Use a Modern Public Library?

Editor’s note: Has it been a long time since your last visit to a public library? If so, you may be surprised to learn that libraries have changed for the better. They can help develop your love for knowledge, meet interesting people and so on. Here are some ideas from the readers.

    Topic: Check out a book

Libraries still loan out books, but you’ll find it easier to borrow whatever you’re looking for with a network of area libraries. By such networks, libraries share their books in a convenient way. Once the book you need arrives, they will e-mail you to pick it up in the nearest library.

    Topic: Check out other things

The library is now a multimedia zone (多媒体区域) with different forms of information like movies on DVDs, music on CDs and popular magazines. Children can also find toys and games there. If a popular magazine you want isn’t offered and the library keeps a list of such requests, it may bring in the magazine when enough interest is shown.

    Topic: Join reading groups

Libraries will often hold reading-group meetings for people of different aged groups. Perhaps you’d like to make more friends, and Betty Green, the library may have a book-sharing group you could join. Also, you might find it relaxing to sit quietly in a corner with a good book while you bring your little kid to a half-hour Story Time.

【1】According to Amy and Ben, which can’t we borrow from the public library?

    A.

    B.

    C.

    D.

【2】According to Betty, taking a little kid to a half-hour Story Time allows ________.

A.the kid to learn a new language

B.the parents to enjoy quiet reading

C.the parents to meet their best friends

D.the kid to enjoy different kinds of toys

【3】What is the purpose of the passage?

A.To improve services of modern public libraries.

B.To encourage people to work in modern public libraries.

C.To introduce different usages of modern public libraries.

D.To tell us the importance of modern public libraries.

  • 27、

Sometimes you may see news of satellites sent into space. On Feb.21, for example, a US company SpaceX took 46 satellites into space. On Feb.27, China sent 22 satellites into space. Why do we need so many satellites?

At present, there are over 3,000 active satellites moving around the Earth. Satellites do all kinds of work, from passing TV signals to giving you directions on the road and helping scientists do research.

For example, the 22 satellites China just sent up are part of the BeiDou Navigation(导航) Satellite System. Shared bikes that use BeiDou chips(芯片) can have the more exact positioning. Drones(无人机) can also use BeiDou to fly.

Before satellites, TV signals didn’t go very far. Mountains or tall buildings would stop them. Phone calls to faraway places were also a problem. Setting up telephone wires(线) over long distance was difficult. With satellites, TV signals and phone calls can be sent directly to a satellite and back down to different places on Earth. SpaceX’s Starlink project is trying to go further. It plans to use satellites to provide the Internet in the future.

Satellites can also provide information about clouds, oceans, land and ice. They help scientists know changes in weather and climate. By checking wildfires and volcanoes(野火和火山), satellites help people deal with natural disasters. Farmers can use satellites to decide the best time to water their fields.

Some satellites fly near other planets. They may look for water on Mars or take close-up pictures of Saturn’s rings (土星环).

【1】What does the writer mainly tell us in Paragraph 1?

A.China has 22 satellites in space in total.

B.The US has the most satellites in space.

C.Humans have sent many satellites into space.

D.There is much competition between China and America.

【2】According to the text, there are (more than) ________ active satellites moving around the earth at present.

    A.22

    B.46

    C.68

    D.3000

【3】What can satellites do at present according to the passage?

    a. Pass telephone signals.       b. Help scientists do research.

    c. Provide information about the environment.       d. Stop natural disasters.

    A.abc

    B.abd

    C.acd

    D.bcd

【4】What’s the main idea of the text?

A.The difficulty of sending a satellite into space.

    B.Advantages and disadvantages of satellites.

C.When the next satellite will be sent into space.

D.What satellites can do for us.

【5】Where is the text most probably from?

    A.A guidebook.

    B.A science magazine.

    C.A movie poster.

    D.A dictionary.
