四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、

A sea turtle swims through the water and spots a white object floating near the surface. “Yum!” it thinks. “A jellyfish!” Chasing after its dinner, the turtle swallows the item. But the floating object isn’t a jellyfish—it’s a plastic bag that could make the sea turtle sick. This sea creature isn’t alone: Over 700 species of marine animals have been reported to have eaten or been trapped in plastic. Scientists think that the amount of plastic in the ocean might triple(三倍)by 2050. But by understanding the issue and taking action, you can help stop that from happening.

    WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH PLASTIC?

First, let’s get real: Not all plastic is bad. Bike helmets, car airbags, and many medical supplies made with plastic save lives. Plastic water bottles can bring clean drinking water to people who don’t have it, and plastic straws can help people with disabilities drink. The problem is that most of us use and then throw away more plastic than we need: things like grocery bags, drink bottles, straws, food wrappers, and plastic packaging around toys. This kind of plastic that’s used only once before being thrown away is called single-use plastic, and it makes up more than 40 percent of all plastic trash.

    WHERE DOES THE PLASTIC GO?

There is a lot of trash. Scientists think that 8.8 million tons of plastic winds up in the ocean every year. How does it get into the sea? Plastic left on the ground as litter often blows into creeks and rivers, eventually ending up in the ocean. And because plastic trash is different from other types of waste—it doesn’t decompose(分解)back into nature like an apple core or a banana peel—it stays in the ocean forever. That means fishing nets thrown into the sea can trap animals and harmful straws can be mistaken as food.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

You can do so much to help keep Earth clean! You can look at how much single-use plastic your family uses by filling out a plastic journal for a week—then talking about what you can do to use less. By working together, our choices can help save animals and the ocean they live in.

【1】What can we know from Paragraph 1?

A.The sea turtle has eaten a jellyfish as its dinner.

B.Sea creatures like eating the floating object.

C.The sea turtle is not alone to eat the jellyfish.

D.More and more plastic will appear in the sea.

【2】What is the problem of plastic according to Paragraph 2?

    A.Plastic can save people’s lives.

B.Plastic can be used only once.

C.Plastic can help the disabled to drink.

D.Plastic can produce a lot of rubbish.

【3】What does the underlined word “it” refer to?

    A.Plastic trash.

    B.A banana peel.

    C.Fishing net.

    D.An apple core.

【4】What’s the author’s writing purpose according to the passage?

A.To tell us a plastic bag that could make the sea turtle sick.

B.To call for our action against plastic pollution.

C.To show a fact that not all plastic is bad.

D.To help save animals and keep the Earth clean.

【5】What is the best title of this passage?

    A.How to Use Plastic

B.A Story of A Sea Turtle

    C.Plastic Pollution

    D.Plastic Saves Lives

When you play back the voice messages you record, you might find that they sound different from your speaking voice. That’s because they’re travelling through different mediums (介质). When we speak, we hear our own voice through bone conduction (传导), while our recorded voice passes through the air. In fact, the voice you hear in recorded messages is closer to the voice that other people hear.

Have you noticed that the elderly people sometimes have larger noses and ears? That’s right. Scientists in Italy have found out that our noses and ears keep growing throughout our whole lives. Our bones stop growing after puberty. But cartilage (软骨), which we have in our ears and noses, keeps growing until we die. In addition, our earlobes (耳垂) become larger year after year because of gravity.

Sharks might have the healthiest teeth among all animals. A shark usually has around 15 rows of teeth. Some sharks end up growing and replacing up to 30,000 teeth in their lifetimes. Moreover, they don’t get cavities (蛀牙). This is because sharks have a fluoride (氟化物) coating on their teeth. Fluoride keeps acid from eating through the tooth’s surface.

Rainbows look like bows, but in fact they are round. When we are standing on the ground, rainbows seem to stop when they hit the ground. This is because they are partly blocked by the ground and horizon, so we only see half of them. But if we look out the window of a plane on rainy or misty days, we might have the chance to see a full round rainbow.

【1】Where is the text above probably from?

    A.A story book.

    B.A film guide.

    C.A science book.

    D.A travel guide.

A.Our noses keep growing because of gravity.

B.When we speak, other people hear our voice through the air.

C.We can certainly see a full round rainbow if we are on the plane.

D.Sharks have no cavities because they have fluoride coats on their bodies.

【3】What’s the best title of the text?

    A.Something impossible

    B.Amazing facts

    C.Mysteries of the human body

    D.Major discoveries

There are some computer programs out there for creating art, such as Photoshop or Microsoft Paint. But you probably wouldn't guess that Microsoft Excel is one of them.

For many of us, Excel is just a type of office software. But for Tatsuo Horiuchi, an 80-year-old Japanese man, it's his paints, his watercolors and his canvas (画布). About 20 years ago, shortly before retiring (退休), the artist decided that he needed a new challenge in his life. So he bought a computer and began making beautiful works of art with Excel.

"I never used Excel at work, but I saw other people using Excel to create pretty graphs. So I thought, 'I could probably draw with that,'" Horiuchi says. "Graphics software (制图软件) is expensive but Excel can store on most computers. What's more, it has more functions and is easier to use than Microsoft Paint."

Horiuchi also tried using Word but was limited (限制) to the paper sizing. There is far more freedom for the artist to produce his pieces in Excel. Horiuchi's colorful Excel art deeply describes that of traditional Japanese paintings. It often shows highly detailed sights, along with people, plants and animals.

"I set a goal," Horiuchi says, "that is, in 10 years, I would be able to paint something excellent that I could show to people." And he has certainly achieved that goal.

Since his discovery of Excel's artistic functions and his ability to use them, Horiuchi has got worldwide praise. He has gone on to win competitions with his work. Not surprisingly, he took first prize at the Excel Autoshape Art Contest in 2006. Having made quite a name for himself, the elderly Japanese artist was given a new name — the "Michelangelo of Excel."

A.the artists Horiuchi has met B.the paintings Horiuchi has drawn

C.the discovery Horiuchi's has made D.the achievements Horiuchi has got

4We know from the passage that Horiuchi ________.

A.began drawing with Excel at the age of 80 B.had more freedom by trying using Word

C.became famous by sticking to his goal D.bought a computer with the prize he got
