二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   A dozen international coffee experts shuffle(把脚挪来挪去)around a long wooden table, pausing at each steaming cup, heads dipping and sniffing deeply. Then the slurping(吃喝或吸吮的声音)begins. In the wings, coffee farmer Yang Fan watches intently as the judges circle, awaiting a verdict(裁定)on her latest crop of beans.

China may be the spiritual home of tea, but it is fast developing a reputation as a top coffee producer. This tasting was a side event to the first ever Pu'er International Specialty Coffee Expo in China's southwestern Yunnan province, which ran this winter and drew more than a thousand attendees, including industry aficionados(酷爱者) from across the globe.

"Coffee has huge potential in China," says Liu Ying, who swapped her life working in private-equity(私人股权) investment in Beijing to grow coffee in Pu'er five years ago. "The younger generation prefers to drink coffee in their offices much more than tea." Still, Pu'er remains synonymous with tea.

This bustling (喧闹的)town near the Laos border is surrounded by the green hills scored with tea plantations; it produces a variety of tea which is also called Pu’er, considered one of China's most refined. But the region's mild climate is also perfect for growing Arabica coffee. And as China's fast-living millennials move away from traditional tea in favor of the invigorating coffee, Pu'er's farmers are catering to the demand.

Yunnan accounts for 98% of China's coffee harvest, with half coming from the misty landscape around Pu'er. Today, China is the 13th biggest coffee producer in the world—rising from zero output three decades ago to 136,000 tons annually today.

In April, Seattle's annual Specialty Coffee Expo decided to showcase China as its portrait country of origin. It follows on the heels of Starbucks' launching its first single-origin Yunnan coffee last year after eight years of partnership with Yunnan farmers.

With global coffee prices at record lows, Yunnan farmers are processing beans in bespoke ways to create distinct flavors—allowing them to enter the market of specialty coffee.

"At current coffee prices, I can't even feed my family," says the farmer Yang. "My only way out is to produce specialty coffee, to make the best coffee beans."That means letting beans dry in their cherries, thus producing a wild, fruity flavor via environmental fermentation(发酵),or allowing them to "honey" in their sugary inner layer, which adds a subtle sweetness.

Back in the tasting room, Yang awaits the experts' verdict on whether all that extra effort was worthwhile."If I told you this was Colombian or Panama coffee, nobody would argue with me," says Samuel Gurel, CEO of Pu'er's Torch Coffee Roasters, as Yang breaks into a huge grin. "It's a great example of how Chinese coffee is evolving."

1What caused Liu Ying to quit her former job to grow coffee in Pu’er?

    A. Yunnan accounts for 98% of China’s coffee harvest.

    B. There is a huge potential of coffee market in China.

    C. She wants to introduce the younger generation to coffee.

    D. She is tired of her work in private-equity investment.

2According to the passage, we know that Arabica coffee __________.

    A. is mainly grown in Yunnan

    B. appeals to Chinese, especially the young

    C. is a more invigorating drink compared with tea

    D. needs mild climate to grow

3The “extra effort” in the last paragraph refers to __________.

    A. processing coffee beans in bespoke ways to create distinct flavors

    B. forming a business partnership with Starbucks

    C. lowering the price of Yunnan coffee beans

    D. replacing Yunnan coffee with Colombian or Panama coffee

4What does Samuel Gurel think of Yang’s coffee beans?

    A. praiseworthy B. arguable

    C. inferior D. unsatisfactory

  • 23、   I hear some actors keep a sad thought or memory tucked away to help them with scenes where they might need to cry. I think we should each try to find the opposite; a happy memory, something to lift us up on those inevitable down days. I’m saying this because I think I just found mine!

I had some work in Glasgow today. I was on a really tight schedule, which meant I would have no time for myself (or my own work) all day. I was having one of those days, the train was completely packed out and the conversation going on around me seemed to be particularly inane. On top of all that, I had a bit of a headache.

Walking briskly across the concourse, I fished some change from my pocket. There was usually someone at the exit selling The Big Issue (a magazine that helps homeless folk earn a living).

As the crowd parted ways at the bottom of the concourse, I saw someone selling the Big Issue. You had to be homeless to sell the Big Issue. She really looked like she’d been sleeping rough. Her clothes were ragged and she obviously hadn’t had a scrub up for quite a while.

As I approached the exit, I saw that she was also rocking from side to side. At first I thought maybe she was trying to keep warm against the biting wind. But she wasn’t, she was moving in time to a tune. I couldn’t hear her, but I could see her lips moving.

As I got closer, I saw a white cane hanging from her elbow and noticed that she had sunken eyes. She was blind, dirty and living on the streets. I came closer and through the noise of the traffic and the commuters I heard her sing the immortal line, “… and I think to myself, what a wonderful world!”

I bought her last magazine for twice what I’d originally intended. She thanked me, then she picked up her stuff and went tapping off along the pavement - still singing!

So, I have my happy memory for the day. And I think it will stay with me a long, long time. Feel free to borrow it if you like.

1Why do some actors keep a sad thought or memory according to the passage?

A.Because some of them always feel unhappy B.because they are scolded by the director

C.Because it helps meet the needs of their roles D.Because they can’t find a happy memory

2What does the underlined word “fished” in para3 refer to?

    A.Made B.exchanged C.pull into D.took out

3Which of the following is TURE according to the passage?

A.Only those homeless people can sell the magazine

B.The author heard her singing as he came close to the exit

C.The girl selling the magazines was blind, dirty and homeless

D.The author never heard what the girl was singing

4It can be inferred from the passage that_________

A.the author had a headache because of his busy work

B.the author bought more magazines than planned to

C.the girl went away as soon as she sold out magazines

D.the author felt unhappy because he missed his train

5What’s the best title for the passage?

A.A happy Memory to Lift You Up

    B.An Unforgettable Day I Experienced

C.The Roses in Her Hand: the Flavor in Mine

D.A Bird in the Hand is Worth than Two in the Bush.

三、完形填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 25、   Many people around the world have seen Danny Boyle’s movie Trainspotting based on Irvine Welsh’s novel of the same name and starring Ewan McGregor, but how many of us can really claim to ______ what train-spotting is all about? Now this is not considered the coolest hobby in town and the word  “train-spotter”, in Britain has become similar in meaning to "geek" or "nerd (蠢货或书呆子),but is this _____ really deserved?

First of all, let’s ______ train-spotting. There are said to be some 100,000 train-spotters in the UK. What do they do? Well, exactly as the title suggests, they spot trains, that is, they stand in train stations, look at the serial numbers of the trains that leave and arrive and write them down. The ______ is to have seen every train in the country.

Being keen on railways and trains is not a _____ hobby and dates back to 1804 when Richard Trevithick built the first steam locomotive, which pulled a load of ten tons of iron, 70 men and five wagons along a nine-mile stretch of track in two hours. As the number of trains grew and they got faster and faster, so did the interest in them grow. Is this any ______ than people who love cars?

So, what do you need to be a train-spotter? Well, it’s a wonderfully ______ pastime—all you really need is a pen or pencil and a notebook to write down the train numbers. The modem train-spotter may also carry binoculars(望远镜)and a video camera, but for the purists these are _____.

It’s interesting to note that despite the stigma(污名)of train-spotting, there have been famous railway _____ in history, such as the poet WH Auden, the comedian Michael Palin and, of course, Alfred Hitchcock, who was a fan of trains and featured them regularly in his films, especially The 39 Steps. There is evidence, too, that being a train-spotter is not necessarily a(n) _____ British hobby.

One glance at the US train sites should be enough to _____ you that transatlantic train-spotters are alive and well. In America, they try to call rail fans ‘trainfans' and talk of ‘trainfanning’.. Don’t let this _____you—these people are train-spotters and there are a lot of them. Each month, two million pages are visited on the website TrainWeb.org.

So call them ‘nerds' or ‘geeks’, but they are here to stay and this is _____ not a hobby that is violent or dangerous in any way, nor does it cause any kind of damage to the environment. What do you think is healthier—sitting in front of a TV screen and ______ those who do something that doesn’t interest you? Or going out and finding and following your ______whatever that happens to be? I know what I think.

  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

    Hunger

When I was a young boy, my mother would place spoonfuls of vegetables onto my plate whether I wanted them or not and the rule in our family was that we always had to clean our plates. However, I rarely saw my mother eat the vegetables herself. She always served us first. She seemed never hungry.

She worked for a rich lady in town, and I always assumed that the reason why she didn’t have our tasteless meals was that she had eaten meats and sweets in the rich lady’s kitchen. Our meals were boring, and there was never enough since there were ten of us — my parents plus eight children.

One afternoon my older sisters were sick, so they couldn’t take care of me. Therefore, my mother had no choice but to bring me with her. It was a long winter day and as my father hadn’t had much work, we had even less food than usual. So I was very excited to go to the rich woman’s house.

My mother placed me in a corner while she rolled out pie crust (饼皮). Then she cooked some meat, and by the afternoon, the pleasant smell filled the kitchen and was making its way into my empty stomach. Then, a bell rang in the kitchen and my mother told me, “Don’t move” and then left.

I tried to do as told, but then I thought it wouldn’t matter if I ate just one blackberry. So I put a single blackberry into my mouth. What an explosion of flavor! The wonderful taste hitting my empty stomach was more than I could handle! Soon I was throwing blackberries into my mouth with two hands! It wasn’t until I was staring at the empty bowl that I noticed the empty, unbaked pie crust sitting on the table waiting for the berries. I looked around for more berries, but there was none. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching, so I quickly hid into the cupboard (碗柜).

    注意:

    1. 续写词数应为150左右;

    2. 请在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Just at the moment, my mother entered the kitchen, following a well-dressed lady.
