二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Every year, TIME editors take a look at the past year’s coolest inventions. Last year, they picked 25 favorites. These inventions are making the world better, smarter and a little more fun. Here are some exciting ones.

    A See-through Truck

Too often people meet with car accidents because a large vehicle blocks their view. This is especially true in Argentina. The South American country is known for its winding and narrow roads. However, Samsung and ad agency Leo Burnett have come up with a creative solution: the Safety Truck. The system sends video footage (片段)in front of a truck to four screens on its back. It gives drivers a clear view of what’s ahead.

    A Virtual(虚拟的)Pencil and Paper

In the 450 years or so since its invention, a pencil has become so common. It’s easy to forget how great technology is. It writes darker words when you press it harder. Its marks can be erased. It’s difficult to digitally copy the way it works. That’s what makes Apple’s latest effort so impressive. The Apple Pencil allows users to draw, paint, or write on a screen, just as they do on a piece of paper. The Apple Pencil goes for $99, and the iPad Pro is $799+.

    Easy-on Shoes

In 2012, Matthew Walzer, a high school student with a disability, sent a note to Nike. “My dream is to go to college,’’ he wrote, “without having to worry about someone coming to tie my shoes every day.” Nike appointed a design team to the challenge. This year, they came up with their solution: the Flyease. The basketball shoes can be fastened with one hand. A pair of Nike Flyease shoes sells for $130.

1How does a See-through Truck help avoid the accidents?

    A. By putting a big block in front of a car.

    B. By sending video footage in front of a truck to four screens on its back.

    C. By writing something on a screen, just as they do on a piece of paper.

    D. By having to worry about someone rushing out in front of the truck every time.

2What makes Apple’s latest effort so impressive?

    A. The Apple Pencil allows users to draw, paint, or write on a screen.

    B. The Apple Watch gives users exact time when people need to know it.

    C. The Apple Pencil goes for $99, and the iPad Air is $799+.

    D. The Apple Pencil leaves darker marks on the screen and its marks can't be erased.

3Which of the following would Tom, a disabled boy with one hand, like to own?

    A. A See-through Truck.   B. A Virtual Pencil and Paper.

    C. A Flying Bicycle.   D. Easy-on Shoes.

  • 22、When going shopping with a friend, Gail Heyman found herself quite awkward (令人尴尬的) when her friend asked her which dress she liked best. Her friend had a clear favorite — a dress that Heyman happened to dislike. “In that case, I lied and said that I like the same one,” said Heyman.

As Heyman’s experience shows, it might not matter all that much if you tell a white lie to make a friend feel good at times. But when it comes to the most meaningful relationships in your life, protecting a friend’s feelings at all costs can sometimes make them fail. For example, if a person is practicing for a job interview and it’s a few days before his interview, and he gives an answer that you think is not good at all and you don’t tell him because you don’t want to hurt his feelings, that’s really not very nice to him, right? Because he has an opportunity to fix that thing.

If you know that lies can have results, why do you still lie often? A study carried out by Tali Sharot, a professor at University College London, found that it’s because people just get used to it. One little lie can turn into bigger and bigger lies over time. “If you habituate emotionally, it will change your behavior,” says Sharot.

Sharot notes that if you’re worried about lying a bit too much, try and notice when you want to bend the truth (歪曲事实). She thinks it’s best to do so when you’re not actually responding to those triggers (诱因). Moving your attention away from shame and focusing more on your values can be a healthy way to start looking at this more actively.

  • 23、Dad and I are watching the Olympic Games in our media room. The screen drops down to cover one wall. We give our robot, Sylvia, our orders for popcorn(爆米花) and juice for dinner. She is only a machine but she looks like a human and helps with the housework.

We are having popcorn for dinner tonight because something is wrong with our oven(烤箱). It is broken and keeps on repeating that it doesn't remember how to cook. Dad thinks the shooting star passing by Earth has caused the problem.

“I did see a shooting star yesterday,” I said,“Maybe that's why I had trouble getting Sylvia started this morning. She turned around and around, hardly stood when she tried to take a step, and almost fell backwards. She finally started moving towards me, but then suddenly turned, and went backwards. I thought she was going to knock into a wall. It was lucky that she got her balance in the end and successfully stood up”.

At last, Sylvia arrives with our popcorn and drinks. I look at the screen and watch the Olympic Games. Sylvia watches it, too. Dad gives her coins as a tip. Sylvia thanks him for the coins and starts to leave the room. Then she turns back to where we are sitting. I hear some clicking sounds. The sounds mean that she is searching her memory chips for information.“During the Olympics, I should get medals, not coins,” she says.

Dad and I just look at each other. Sylvia doesn't seem to know that robots aren't supposed to think. Then we burst out laughing and award Sylvia a gold medal.

  • 24、During the European Championship game against Finland, the Danish player Eriksen suddenly collapsed on the field when nobody touched him. The world of football came to a complete standstill.

Team captain Kjaer recognized the seriousness of the situation immediately and kept a cool head. The central defender rushed to help in no time and opened Eriksen's mouth to prevent his unconscious (无意识的) friend from swallowing his tongue. Then he loudly called the medical staff for first aid.

The doctor of the Danish soccer team, Morten Boesen said, “When I arrived, he was breathing and I could feel his pulse. But suddenly that changed. And as everyone saw, we started giving him CPR (心肺复苏术). We managed to get Eriksen back. And he opened his eyes and spoke to me before he was taken to the hospital.” It took 12 minutes from when the player collapsed to when he was taken away.

When the professional staff were taking the life-saving measures, Kjaer arranged for his teammates to form a screen around Eriksen.

Coach Kasper Hjulmand said after the 1-0 defeat against Finland: “Kjaer was deeply affected and doubted whether he could continue. He tried, but it was not possible.”

Kjaer and Eriksen are close friends. Kjaer is proud of his team, which he led to try everything after the shocking incident. That evening, the defeat became a minor matter. All thoughts were with Eriksen and his family.
