22、Have you ever loved a TV show? I mean really loved it? The unresolved situation at the end of the episode can make you want to watch the next one. But, when will the next one be?
In the past, viewers had to wait up to a week for the next episode of their favourite shows. But, that's not the case any more. And hand in hand with that comes a possibly dangerous, growing social trend. We speak of binge-watching.
Binge-watching is when a person watches more than one episode of a show for a long time without a stop. With developments in the speed and connectivity of the Internet, increases in technology and the rise of on-demand entertainment companies, people can now have their favourite shows played directly on their television at their convenience. Once the episode finishes, many platforms will display pop-ups with "you might like" suggestions, or will play the next episode by itself.
However, this may in fact be harmful. Recent research from British media supervisory body Ofcom suggests that this behaviour may have become a problem. Out of the more than half of British adults who watch more than one episode of a show back to back, almost a third have admitted missing sleep or becoming tired as a result, and one quarter have forgotten to do their household chores. Next we'll be missing work!
Bingeing has other connections-binge-eating, binge-drinking and binge-smoking, all of which are often associated with compulsive behaviour, a lack of control and a possible way to addiction. Lindsey Fussell, consumer group director at Ofcom, said, “The days of waiting a week for the next episode are largely gone, with people finding it hard to resist watching episodes around the house or on the move.” If people find binge-watching hard to refuse and it has led to ignorance, are we witnessing the birth of a new type of addiction?
The large amount of information and entertainment that television and online media can bring us is, many would say, a good thing. However, it can become dangerous. And when the activity begins to spread to other areas, causing us to stop functioning, it becomes a problem. So, what's the answer? Moderation! Neither a tiny amount, nor too much. After all, as the old saying goes, “ ________ ”.

23、"Hope has proved a powerful predictor of outcome in every study we've done so far," said Dr. Snyder, a psychologist.
In research with 3,920 college students, Dr. Snyder found that the level of hope among freshmen at the beginning of their first term was a more accurate predictor of their college grades than were their S.A.T. scores or their grade point averages in high school. "Students with high hope set themselves higher goals and know how to work to attain them," Dr. Snyder said. "When you compare students with equal learning ability and past school achievements, what sets them apart is hope."
In seeking a way to assess hope scientifically, Dr. Snyder went beyond the usual belief that hope is merely the sense that everything will turn out all right. "This idea is not concrete enough; it fails to clarify two key components of hope," Dr. Snyder said.
"Having hope means believing you have both the will and the way to accomplish your goals, whatever they may be."
Despite the wisdom in the old saying "where there's a will there's a way," Dr. Snyder has found that the two are not necessarily connected. In a study of people from 18 to 70 years old, Dr. Snyder discovered: only about 40% of people are hopeful in the technical sense of believing they typically have the energy and means to accomplish their goals; about 20% of the people believed in their ability to find the means to attain their goals, but said they had little will to do so; another 20% have the opposite pattern, saying they had the energy to motivate themselves but little confidence that they would find the means; the rest had little hope at all, reporting that they typically had neither the will nor the way.
"It's not enough just to have the wish for something," said Dr. Snyder. "You need the means, too. On the other hand, all the skills to solve a problem won't help without the willpower to do it."
【1】What does Dr. Snyder think can best predict a freshman's academic performance?
A.His S.A.T. scores.

【4】What can be the most suitable title for the passage?
A.No pains, no gains.

D.Where there's a will there's a way.
24、What is talent? Are you born with it? Or does it seem to develop over time? Before I start, I’d like to say that one thing everyone agrees on is that the most skilled musicians have worked hard to get there.
While it’s true that a few of us had enough “talent” to avoid extra practice to do just as well as those who did, those who worked hard easily beat us. It is, in fact, very likely that if some of us “talented ones” had actually been practicing and improving our skill, we would have achieved a whole different level.
Another aspect of talent seems to be heart and passion (酷爱). The people I see who are the most talented musicians are crazy about music. They eat, breathe, and live music and they make an extraordinary effort to make it part of their lives. As Remus Badea said, desire for the musician-to-be is significant for them to be successful. This desire is easily found in those considered to be talented. When you want and love something so bad, it drives you and your entire character can be shaped around it. Such determined passion seems to produce incredible skill and talent.
The third aspect (方面) of talent is having talent around you. When surrounded by talented musicians, it only seems natural that you start to catch up to their level Take a look at almost any group of musicians in history. The more talented people in the group the more talented the group is as a whole. A great example of this is the relationship between audio producer and artist. The artist turns up to the studio with their song, and as they work through recording it, the audio producer will often suggest various changes to the song to make it better.
【1】What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A.Pride goes before a fall.
B.It’s never too old to learn.
C.Practice contributes to talent.
D.Talent determines achievements.
【2】What is the key to success according to Remus Badea?
A.Passion.
B.Character .
C.Skill.
D.Talent.
【3】Why is the example mentioned in the last paragraph?
A.To introduce what real talents are.
B.To explain how a song is composed.
C.To prove talents need team spirit.
D.To show the benefits of being with talents.
【4】What might the author probably agree with?
A.Music has no limits.
B.Musicians are born with talent.
C.Music favors the talented.
D.Musicians are created, not born.
