二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、A new app called curbi is providing parents with strong control over their children’s online activity, any time, anywhere!

Any parent of a child who has access to technology, which covers any kid old enough to point a finger, fights endless battles around proper usage, time spent and time wasted on personal devices.

Developed by a team in Western Australia, once set up, it links parents to all devices used by their kids—iPhones, iPads and iPods—so that they can direct, block or monitor their Internet time in detail.

With the touch of a button, you can put your kid’s tablet into 10 minutes of ‘Time Out’ (that’s zero Internet access), or block his or her access to social media and time-wasting apps to keep her focused during study.

The beauty of the app is that parents can set the rules (eg a ‘bedtime’ mode that allows no social media or video apps like YouTube) and apply them any time, anywhere – whether children are on the home network, or using free wifi or mobile data. It can even disable the device’s camera, photo stream and block in-app purchases, screenshots and app installations. Curbi’s most obvious application is for keeping kids safe, allowing parents to block content such as adult, TV and video sites.

The monitoring aspect allows parents to check what each of their techno children is up to on their device, at a glance—a detailed report of how many minutes are spent on each site or app can even be emailed.

【1】What can parents do with the help of the new app?

A.Visit the camera of their child’s personal device.

B.Use free wifi and mobile datat any time, anywhere.

C.Fight endless battles around the use of personal devices.

D.Prevent their child using some apps on their personal device.

【2】What kind of attitude may parents take to the new app?

    A.Negative.

    B.Supportive.

    C.Doubtful.

    D.Concerned.

【3】What word can be used to describe the app according to the last paragraph?

    A.Affordable.

    B.Safe.

    C.Time-wasting.

    D.Convenient.

【4】What is the purpose of writing the passage?

A.To call on parents to monitor their children.

B.To advertise a personal device to customers.

C.To introduce a new monitoring app to parents.

D.To attract readers’ attention to a common issue.

  • 22、A Russian natural gas tanker has completed an experimental round trip along the Northern Sea Route - the first time the path across the Arctic has been made at this time of year. If returned to the Russian gas station at Sabetta on February 19. The voyage by the Christophe de Margerie tanker through the ice is the latest visual indicator of climate change in the cold region.

The tanker set out from a Chinese port on January 27 after delivering its cargo (货物). It entered the Northern Sea Route, which traverses (横越) Russia's north coast. A few days later near Cape Dezhnev, it was met by the Russian nuclear icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy (50 Years of Victory). Together they completed the 2,500 -nautical-mile voyage through the ice.

The ship managed to complete the first leg of the trip from Russia to China without an icebreaker. Both of the journeys broke records for winter navigation (航行) due to the changing climate in the Arctic allowing passage through thinner ice. Using the Northern Sea Route lets shippers in Russia and other countries avoid a much longer southern journey around Europe, the Middle East and all of southern Asia, saving millions of dollars.

The ships chanced upon no multi-year buildup of old ice on the route, and the deepest ice was about 5 feet thick. However, meteorologist and journalist Eric Holthaus called that a clear indicator of "a climate emergency".

Last May, Christophe de Margorie became the first large-capacity cargo ship to complete an eastbound transit of the Northern Sea Route two months earlier in the year than the journey traditionally made.

"As a result of the early Northern Sea Route voyage completed by Christophe de Margerie in May 2020, as well as the current NSR voyage, the navigation in the Eastern part of the Arctic was practically doubled," Eric Holthaus said. He noted that for decades the transit route along that part of the NSR had typically remained closed by ice from November until July.

【1】Which factor contributed most to Christophe de Margerie's successful trip?

    A.The nuclear power.

    B.The ocean current.

    C.The climate change.

    D.The ideal equipment.

【2】What' Eric Holthaus’s attitude to the gas tanker's trip across the Arctic?

    A.Concerned

    B.Positive.

    C.Doubtful

    D.Critical.

【3】What does the underlined phrase "chanced upon" in paragraph 4 mean?

    A.came across

    B.prepared for

    C.crashed into

    D.picked up

【4】How long can the NSR route be used by cargo ships now?

    A.2 months.

    B.3 months.

    C.4 months.

    D.6 months.

  • 23、Christian Eijkman,a Dutch doctor, left the Netherlands for the island of Java. Many people on the island had a disease called beri-beri. He was going there to try and find a cure.

At first,Eijkman thought some kind of germ(细菌)caused beri-beri. He raised some chickens. He didn't eat them, but made experiments on them. The local people were quite surprised at that. One day he noticed that his chickens became sick when they were fed the food most Javanese ate refined white rice(精炼米). When he fed them with unrefined rice, also known as brown rice, they recovered. Eijkman realized that he had made an important discovery—that some things in food could prevent disease. These things were named vitamins(维生素). The Javanese were not getting enough vitamins because they had actually removed the part that contains vitamins. Later, other diseases were also found to be caused by the lack of vitamins in a person’s food.

  • 24、   China’s war on garbage is as digital as the country itself. Think QR codes attached to trash bags that allow the government to trace exactly where its trash comes from.

On July 1, Shanghai began a compulsory garbage sorting program. Households and companies must classify their wastes into four categories and dump them in appointed places at certain times. The strict program became a headache for some residents. Not even the most environmentally conscious person can get all the answers right. Like, which bin does the newspaper you just used to pick up dog poop (粪便)belong to?

Gratefully, China’s tech startups are here to help. For instance, China’s biggest internet companies responded with new search features that help people identify what wastes are “wet”, “dry”, “toxic”, or “recyclable”. Simply pull up a mini app on WeChat, Baidu or Alipay and enter the keyword. The tech firms will give you the answer and why.

Alipay, Alibaba’s electronics payment company, claims its garbage sorting mini app added one million users under just three days. The mini app has so far indexed (编索引) more than 4,000 types of rubbish. Its database is still growing, and soon it will save people from typing by using image recognition to classify trash when they snap a photo of it. If people are too busy or lazy to hit the collection schedule, well, startups are offering trash service at the doorstep. A third-party developer helped Alipay build a recycling mini app and is now collecting garbage from 8,000 apartment complexes across 11 cities. To date, two million people have sold recyclable materials through its platform.

Besides helping households out, companies are also building software to make property managers, life easier. Some residential complexes in Shanghai began using QR codes to trace the origin of garbage. This way, regulators in the region know exactly which family has produced the trash and fine violators.

1What are some residents confused about?

A.Environmental knowledge. B.Bin for dog poop.

C.Some waste classification. D.Time for dumping.

2What is the advantage of trash service at the doorstep?

A.It provides time flexibility. B.It reduces household waste.

C.It saves people from typing. D.It classifies rubbish properly.

3Who will probably most welcome the use of QR codes?

    A.Third-party developers. B.Company managers.

    C.Community administrators. D.Rubbish collectors.

4What is the main idea of this article?

    A.People need recycling apps badly.

    B.People should classify their rubbish.

C.How regulators benefit from the tech.

D.How China uses tech to sort waste.
