二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Parents sometimes struggle to find a balance between encouraging an adolescent to achieve without pushing too hard. Pushing a child too much could feed perfectionist tendencies, which can have a serious effect on mental health. Perfectionists are motivated by a fear of failure and reach for high goals in an effort to prove their worth to others. 【1】. This tendency can be found at the root of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and eating disorders.

Parents can help temper (缓和) perfectionist tendencies by bringing “perfectionist thinking” out into the open, helping an adolescent regain perspective and learn to accept their limitations. Here are some ways parents can start that important conversation at home:

Build awareness: Perfectionist thinking takes root in childhood. Evidence suggests just raising awareness about perfectionism — what it looks like in action and its potential costs — can help to lessen its hold. 【2】. As in not everything has to be pursued at the highest level all the time.

Normalize suffering: Young people need to hear that it is typical and normal to feel suffering from time to time, and that negative emotions are a normal part of life and not a sign of personal fault. Saying “That sounds really hard” or “【3】.” can help to normalize them and allow a child to feel less alone.

Encourage self-compassion (自我同情) and self-forgiveness: Practicing self-compassion can protect against perfectionist tendencies. Help your child find a go-to line they can say to themselves to drown out the critical voice in their heads, as in: 【4】. Forgiving yourself for being human doesn’t mean ignoring failures. It means widening your perspective, aiming to do better but without suffering additional and unhelpful criticism.

【5】: A large part of the harm of perfectionism comes from our reactions to it. When experiencing a personal setback, a parent can model healthy coping out loud, as in, “It’s time to stop beating myself up. Everyone makes mistakes.” Modeling for your children how you cope with mistakes and failures is critical to fostering healthy coping skills in them.

    A.Stop perfectionism

    B.Model healthy coping

C.I can understand how you feel

D.At its worst, perfectionism acts as a trap

E.That’s okay, Jamie, you’re doing your best

F.Mounting evidence shows how destructive perfectionism can be

G.One way to do this is to introduce the concept of “good enough”

  • 22、I was driving home the other day on a sunny afternoon. I had a smile on my face as I sang along to the songs on the radio. It was a beautiful day that I felt full of happiness. My good mood ended, however, when the radio station took a news break between songs. Then suddenly I found myself listening to yet another story of a rich famous man who had broken the law. I shook my head as I came to a red traffic light.

As I pulled to a stop I noticed four leather-jacketed bikers. They were standing in the middle of the road with two on either side of the light. They looked rough and dangerous, but as I got closer I noticed each one was holding their helmet in their hands. I rolled down my window as one approached my car. “We are the Brother’s of the Wheel”, he said. “We are collecting money for a Christmas Toy Drive for needy children”. As I pulled a dollar out of my wallet I looked past his beard and tattoos and into his eyes. They shined with a goodness and kindness that came right from his soul. I dropped the money in his helmet and waved to the other bikers as I drove off. My good mood had returned. My faith in mankind had been improved. And I had to remember again never to judge people by their appearance.

Our society often judges books by their covers, but God reads what is written in our hearts and souls. Perhaps one day we will all learn to see the world through the same eyes. Perhaps one day we will realize that looks matter little and actions matter much.

    【1】The writer’s good mood ended when __________.

    A. he heard news between songs

    B. he had to stop at a red traffic light

    C. he heard a rich man broke the law

    D. he saw four leather-jacketed kids in need

【2】What were four bikers doing at the traffic light?

    A. Having a bicycle race in the street.

    B. Selling helmets to the passers-by.

    C. Raising money to help kids in need.

    D. Preparing for Christmas holidays.

【3】The writer wants to tell us that we should ___________.

    A. have faith in young people

    B. judge others by their actions

    C. change our attitude to society

    D. manage to help others in need

  • 23、I think a close friend is someone you get on really well with, who helps you when you have problems, who gives you advice, and who always has time for you. I didn’t use to have many close friends when I was at school or at university as I was very shy, but now I have several. They are all women—I think it’s difficult to have a close friend of the opposite sex(异性).

    —Marie

I don’t really have any close friends. I know a lot of people but mainly through work, and the kinds of social occasions(场合)when we meet are business dinners and evening parties. I think if you come from a really close family, then friends are a bit unnecessary. I prefer to spend the little free time I have with my family.

    —Richard

I think a close friend is someone who you’ve known for a long time, and who you still get on with. They probably have similar hobbies to you so you can do things together. I’ve got three close friends who I was at high school with and we often go away together(without our parents of course). We always go camping and somewhere we can go walking, play football and be outside in the open air.

    —David

For me close friends are the people you spend your free time with. I go out at weekends with a group of people—there are about seven of us, and I’d say we are all close friends. We also live near each other. I don’t think you can have close friends at a distance; you need to be able to see each other often. But I don’t think you need to be doing the same things. I mean I’m at university but none of my friends are.

    —Anna

【1】What does Richard say about friends?

A.It’s hard to make friends at work.

    B.They’re less important than family.

C.Friends need to have a lot in common.

D.Women and men can’t be close friends.

【2】What do we know about Anna’s friends?

    A.They are college students.

B.They are doing the same things.

    C.They don’t live far away.

D.They don’t see each other often.

【3】Who has more friends now than before?

    A.Anna.

    B.David.

    C.Richard.

    D.Marie.
