21、Yasmin, a two-year-old from Bodmin, Cornwall, the UK, was playing with a toy in a local park on Sunday when a bird grabbed it away. Her father, Matthew Blanchard, said the gull(鸥)“dived in and grabbed” the doll, named Baby, when Yasmin dropped it while walking. The gull eventually dropped the toy on the roof of a nearby school and it was rescued from there by some workers.
Mr. Blanchard said: “Yasmin was happily playing on the swings and taking her baby down the slide. There were lots of seagulls in the park, and she managed to drop the baby as she was walking up the hill. The seagull took the opportunity and dived in and grabbed it.”
Mr. Blanchard said Yasmin was “crying” as other gulls joined in, fighting for the toy. “I thought once it realised it wasn't food it would let it go, but then all the other seagulls thought it had some food on it, so they all dive-bombed the baby dolly,” he added. One of the gulls got hold of the doll and took it up onto the roof of a nearby school, where it eventually dropped it.
“I had to get her out of the park because she was so upset,” Mr. Blanchard said. “I convinced her that somebody would be able to get it down for her another day, but I couldn't see any way of us getting it back.” Mr. Blanchard said his daughter was so upset she talked about nothing else over the following days.
The family contacted Bodmin Town Council who sent a worker to get the doll back on Tuesday enabling a reunion between Yasmin and Baby that evening. “It was just a small gesture which meant a lot to Yasmin. She was over the moon when she got that baby back and she hasn't let it go since.” Mr. Blanchard said.
Marie Tonkin-Couch, the council receptionist who dealt with the request, said: “The member of staff was a bit surprised when we asked them to go and get the doll, but it was an easy rescue as they just needed to climb up a ladder.” Ms. Tonkin-Couch said she had not heard of a gull stealing someone's toy before. “It was nice to be able to get it back to her when you have kids, you know how precious toys are to them. It was a happy ending.”

22、 One should be moderate in all things. Moderation is always the safest way to do things, and a virtue we should have. Let’s take the student life for example. There are some students who study too hard and play too little, while there are others who play too much and study too little. On the one hand, it is harmful to his health if he has too few physical exercises, and on the other hand, it is harmful to his mind if he plays too much.
In the matter of eating, one also should be moderate. Do not eat too much or too little. Eating too much will make you sick, while eating too little will make you weak. The man of progress is he who neither has too high opinion of himself nor thinks too poorly of himself. If he thinks too highly of himself, he is surely to become very proud, but if he has too poor an opinion of himself, he will have no courage to make an advance. Both conditions above will make you lose your aim in life. A broadminded man is he who always moves within the orbit of reasonableness. In any activities in one’s life, moderation is one of the best ways to enjoy real happiness.
【1】“Someone is moderate ”means ________.

A.neither too much nor too little
B.food rich in fat
C.a little amount of food so as not to be fat
D.as much food as one can if the food is tasty
【4】If one wants to be broadminded, he must ________.
A.be full of courage
B.enjoy real happiness
C.do everything reasonably
D.believe in himself
23、Who doesn’t love sitting beside a cosy fire on a cold winter’s night? Who doesn’t love to watch flames (火苗)curling up a chimney? Fire is one of man’s greatest friends, but also one of his greatest enemies. Many big fires are caused by carelessness. A lighted cigarette was thrown out of a car or a train window or a broken bottle lying on dry grass can start a fire. Sometimes a fire can start on its own. Wet hay(草)can begin burning by itself. This is how it happens: the hay starts to rot(腐烂)and begins to give off heat which is trapped inside it. Finally, it bursts into flames. That’s why farmers cut and store their hay when it’s dry.
Fires have destroyed whole cities. In the 17th century, a small fire which began in a baker’s shop burnt down nearly every building in London. Moscow was set on fire during the war against Napoleon. This fire continued burning for seven days. And, of course, in 64 A.D.a fire burnt Rome. Even today, in spite of modern fire-fighting methods, fire causes millions of pounds’ worthy of damage each year both in our cities and in the countryside.
It has been wisely said that fire is a good servant but a bad master.

24、Last year, I started to learn improv (即兴表演), the art of performing comedy without a script (剧本),which helped fight my anxiety both onstage and in daily life. 【1】 For example, it can increase creativity and acceptance of uncertainty. Here are three rules that can not only be used in improv but also in daily life.
Rule 1: Yes, and
When you’re on stage and your partner says, “Congratulations on opening this book shop,” don’t say, “We’re not in a book shop, we’re at my pet shop.”【2】 Instead, you should say “Yes, and do you want to have a look?”
In life, we often say no to new ideas because of uncertainty. But the idea of “Yes, and,” gives us a moment to listen and create something new from what is offered.
Rule 2: Accept mistakes
If you do something you didn’t mean to do — for example, you mispronounced a word - you can’t stop to do a retake. You have to find some humor and continue on. To me, I would make the mispronunciation part of my role’s quirks (怪癖).
Mistakes can bring us shame and embarrassment. But if we accept them, we’re less likely to keep thinking about them. Ask yourself, was that mistake really the end of the world? 【3】
Rule 3: 【4】
Your identity, experiences and view on life can be integrated (融入) in your performance. For example, Sajid, a South Asian, has to play an elder person. She will never act weak or forgettable as most actors do to make audience laugh, she says. In her culture, elders are respectable - so she will show what they are truly like in her community. 【5】
Being yourself can add value to your performance and your life. Allow yourself to be yourself and remind yourself that your voice matters.
A.Stay true to yourself.
B.Show your creativity.
C.Just like in improv and in everyday life, it’s usually not.
D.In this way you can-avoid mistakes in the future performance.
E.This way of acting are usually understood and liked by the audience.
F.That would make it hard for your partner to continue the performance.
G.Actually there are many other mental health benefits of performing this art.
