21、Like lots of other girls and boys, when Lisa Cao was a kid,she used to watch the Olympics. “I always wanted to be good at sport and I found athletic potential in my body”, the New York City citizen tells her friends. At age 18,Lisa Cao ran her first-ever marathon in New York City. And now,the 27-year-old has 54 marathons (26. miles) and ultramarathons (100miles) under her belt.
What does it take to be an ultramarathoner? A lot of devotion, even when difficulties occur sometimes. “Making time for running is really hard when life is so busy,” she says. “There’s a big work-life balance that I have to keep. I have to wake up earlier on the weekends. And oh,the potential for excuses! With NYC’s wild winters as of late,it’s easy to blame the weather, roll over in bed and put off a solid run. I have a fix for this, though,” she says. “Cute clothes. With the horrible weather, I bought cute clothes as motivation to run and actually wear them. ”
While she’s training during low season in the winter,Lisa Cao tries to run a “base” of 20 to 30 miles per week to stay prepared. During high season in the spring and summer, she’ll run around 30 to 40 miles, but she also gets a lot of quality miles from her races.

22、I had not hugged a friend or a family member for more than two years until recently when my sister flew in for a brief visit. For safety, we met outside. Despite the wintry weather, her hug warmed me from the inside out. It’s strange, but only now do I truly realize how much I’ve missed embracing loved ones.
I grew up through war in my hometown of Sarajevo, Bosnia, and every moment was full of danger. On one peaceful morning, I had begged my mom to let me go outside after spending weeks indoors. She finally agreed. I was outside for only 10 minutes when I was caught in an explosion. I ran to my neighbor’s house for safety and hung my arms around her neck just as my legs collapsed underneath me.
Thankfully, I made a full physical recovery, but the emotional scars never left me. Years later there was another explosion near my house. I was safely inside, but my father had left to buy a loaf of bread. He had only just missed the explosion. When he came back inside, I gave him the biggest hug imaginable. I was caked in tears as I held him tight.
That same night my parents managed to arrange my escape from our war-torn city. I was 16 and came to America on my own. A generous host family took me in. They had a large dog called Oscar. Over the next several months, I secretly struggled with feeling homesick and worried about my family back home. Despite managing quite well at school, I couldn’t express my feelings. The only way I shared how I felt was by giving Oscar a big hug.
It is yet another sad aspect of our pandemic lives that hugging a stranger is the last thing on our minds. For many of us, even hugging a relative or a friend comes with stress and anxiety over risks and precautions. As I look back on my past, I count myself truly lucky to have been held, shielded and encouraged at some of the most key moments of my life by the power of a hug.
【1】What is the passage mainly about?
A.Experience of war.
B.Love for family.

【2】How did the author feel when she hugged her father?
A.Frightened.
B.Relieved.
C.Embarrassed.
D.Astonished.

A.She had her arms hurt in an explosion.
B.She recovered quickly from the wounds of the war.
C.She couldn’t catch up with her classmates at school.

23、Gear guide—buying a backpack
A quick glance through my outdoor trade directory reveals 49 companies that sell or make backpacks. If they all produce ten backpacks then we have a frightening number for the humble beginner to choose from. 【1】
The first and most vital consideration is your anticipated load. If you have short summer evening walks then a small backpack would be fine, but if your walks are day-long and year-round then your pack will need to be bigger. Mine typically contains packed lunch, waterproofs, clothing I’ve taken off during the day, a first aid kit and an emergency shelter. Sometimes in winter I add a sleeping bag and a torch. 【2】 My current backpack is a Crag-hopper AD30(30 litres)which is just big enough. Admittedly I do often lead walking parties in remote places so perhaps my added responsibilities cause me to carry more. Compare my list with yours to see if you need as much carrying space.
【3】 Choose a light pack, but make sure it can take the weight of what you are carrying and it can support the load comfortably on your back. Today you can get quite technically advanced backpacks: advanced fabrics, a variety of side pockets, internal frames, adjustable belts, and clever systems to keep your back cool.
You also need to look inside. It may seem obvious, but you should choose a backpack that allows you easy access. 【4】 It’s also important to choose a backpack that fits the length of your back. Being six feet I need a long, thin one rather than a short, wider one. If I use the latter, I’ ll have a hip belt round my stomach!
【5】 Obviously you can’t see it when it’s on your back, but why buy something that won’t look good on you? After all, there’s no shortage of colors or designs to choose from.
A.I need a backpack with a reasonable capacity.
B.Undoubtedly we won’t ignore the look of the pack.
C.A wide variety of functions are offered to customers.
D.It is recommended that you consider weight and features.
E.Some have narrow necks that make removing large items difficult.
F.So consider your own needs before you set foot in an outdoor shop.
G.A cool pack can provide an enjoyable and comfortable hiking trip for you.
24、Primal Fear
In this 1996 mystery drama, a timid young man, Aaron (Edward Norton), is accused of murdering a priest. Norton’s amazing performance helped to ease suspicion that Aaron is really guilty of the crime. While watching the multi-layered story uncover, it’s easy to overlook the possibility that Aaron could be a brilliant sociopath (反社会的人) playing everyone.
Planet of the Apes
It’s difficult enough for you to make sense of a planet where humans are ruled by talking apes, but when we finally get used to the concept, the ending is really beyond our expectation. Besides, the scene when astronaut George Taylor discovers the remains of the Statue of Liberty in the original 1968 film is really shocking.
The Village
M. Night Shyamalan is one of the few directors who could give us something this clever and wildly imaginative. While it’s common for suspense films to reveal that some fundamental aspect isn’t what it appears to be, in this film set in a 19th century village, basically nothing turns out as it appears.
Fighting Club
This 1999 hit film starring Edward Norton as an office worker who starts an underground fight club isn’t the easiest movie to follow. But the dramatic ending, which involves exploding buildings, may be the most shocking part of all.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
During the past two years, I felt down from time to time, especially when I stayed indoors. To get out of the house, I decided to teach myself how to skate again even though it had been more than 30 years since I had been on the ice. Little did I know, I would also be teaching myself how to rise to the challenges I’d soon face in life, too.
I dug out my old figure skates, but they didn’t work. So I ordered a new pair of skates and found a place to get them sharpened. I assumed it would be easy to pick up from where I had left off, so I reserved our ice time. Armed and ready, I was awake before the online reservation system opened to secure spots at my neighborhood rink (滑冰场). I even convinced my son to join me for my first go.
Filled with fear, I estimated there was a five-centimeter drop down from the walking ledge (台子) to the ice and nothing nearby to grab onto in order to keep my balance. My son was already circling around but skated over to offer his arm for support.
I climbed down, one skate at a time and my leg shook slightly when both feet landed on the ice.
“Can I hang onto you for the first few minutes?” I asked my son nervously. I took baby steps but I had forgotten how to glide (滑行). Eager to see how far I could go, I let go of my son’s arm.
With great efforts, I began to do slow laps, inching ahead with my skates and staying close to the rink boards.
I avoided falling on my first attempt but as I walked home silently with my son, I wondered whether I should quit. Fear had held me back and I hadn’t given it my all.
“You used to skate so well, what happened?” asked my son.
“Life got in the way.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
