二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、The Hunan Satellite TV(HNTV) show “Where are we going, Dad?” is a big hit. Many famous stars brought their children to a strange village alone, and they had to spend 72 hours with their children there. The program fully showed us a modern version of the “how to be a good father”. As the young parents today are too busy to take care of their children, this new form of“Lost on the way”played by nanny daddy and cute kids triggered(触发)a lot of people’s emotional resonance(共鸣). Both the kids and their parents will find that their hearts are being drawn closer. But this kind of feeling has just proved that there is a big spiritual barrier between the modern parents and children.

The TV shows like “Children are hard to support!”, “Where are we going, Dad?”, “hot mom” and “cute kids” are becoming more and more popular. All of these show the new parents’ confusion in children’s education and the appeal for the balance between career and family.

In real life, on the one hand the young parents feel helpless because they are too busy to accompany their children under the pressures of work and life; on the other hand they continue to do so. The data collected by HNTV show that nearly two-thirds of their audience are female, among whom 36% are aged from 25 to 34. We can imagine such a scene that one evening a young mother is watching the show with her young children, while her husband is still at work or trapped in socializing, or maybe is just playing computer games in the bedroom. The story of a child without the company of father is still going on. In fact, it is sometimes the same to mothers. In a modern family, it is often the old who take the responsibility of raising a child. The participation of mother in the children’s education is also very low.

It is just this kind of confusion where the parents have gone in the modern family education, and where the parents will guide their children to go that“Where are we going, Dad?”shows us. If a child wants to grow up healthily and safely into a modern citizen with independent personality and free spirit, it is very important for him or her to follow the parents who serve as their first teacher. Maybe this is the real reason why such kind of TV programs could get hot. The truth is that children will go where their parents go; and society will go where the children go.

【1】 Which of the following can be inferred in the passage?

    A. Parents shouldn’t entirely leave the education of children to the old.

    B. 36% of the audience of the program are female aged from 25-34.

    C. The program shows us the confusion where the parents and children will go to play.

    D. In a modern family it is often mothers who are responsible for raising a child.

【2】Which one is the best title of the passage?

    A. Confusion behind “Where are we going, dad?”

    B. Modern Education is Important

    C. Nanny Daddy and Cute Kids

    D. New Problems in Modern Children’s Education

【3】In raising a child in modern society, parents should __________.

    A. play computer games with their children

    B. break down the barrier between children and teachers

    C. balance well between family and career

    D. keep their children at home to avoid socializing

【4】What attitude towards modern family education does the author express in the second paragraph?

    A. Optimistic. B. Proud.   C. Worried.  D. Indifferent.

  • 22、My two and fouryearold boys love to win, whether they're racing their bikes down the sidewalk or just finishing their snacks. It's true that those with high status, from world leaders and prize winners to athletes and movie stars, are people we like and respect. A recent study published in Nature Human Behaviour showed that we seem to have an innate (天生的) preference for highranking people—but only if those people aren't hurtful toward others.

Researchers showed toddlers (aged 21 to 31 months) a scene where two puppets (木偶) approached one another from opposite sides of a stage and one bowed to let the other pass first. Asked which puppet they liked better, 18 of the 21 toddlers in the experiment reached for the puppet who had been allowed to pass. Because respect from others is a marker of status, this suggests that children have a preference for those with a higher status — even before age three.

However, the results were quite different when two puppets approached one another and one used force to knock the other down before continuing to the other side. In this case, 18 of the 21 toddlers reached for the one who was knocked down. As the researchers concluded, “When approaching others, very young children care not only who wins, but also how.” The previous experiment has shown that toddlers know about social status but this experiment went one step further by proving they have an obvious preference for high status. Since the participants were so young, this might even be an innate human preference.

In a word, this new research suggests that young children appreciate people who do well while at the same time doing good to others. So, when my four year old thinks that he has to get his shoes on first, I'll keep reminding him that helping his brother so they both finish faster is what winning is all about.

【1】What do we tend to do according to the first paragraph?

    A.Seek challenges all the time.

    B.Admire highranking people.

    C.Take advantage of high status.

    D.Hurt others with offensive words.

【2】Why did toddlers prefer the puppet allowed to pass?

    A.It looked lovely.

    B.It behaved smartly.

    C.It seemed polite.

    D.It was respected.

【3】What can we infer from the latter study?

    A.People naturally dislike unkind behavior.

B.Toddlers care little about high social status.

C.Slower people are better loved by toddlers.

D.Being helpful contributes to being supported.

【4】What should we do when we encourage children to win?

A.Instruct them to use proper and creative ways.

B.Advise them to be as hardworking as possible.

C.Remind them to be considerate to other people.

D.Tell them to try to cooperate with someone else.

  • 23、   Human-like parts have been grown on the backs of mice using 3D printing. The technique could potentially be used to construct new parts or other body parts in people without the need for surgery.

It's getting more common to see customized body parts, like jaws, ribs and spinal vertebrae built by 3D printing. But these parts must be printed outside the body before they are implanted through surgery, which carries an infection risk.

Now, Mailing Gou at Sichuan University, China, and his colleagues have shown that body ports can be 3D printed inside the body, at least in mice, without the need for surgery.

Initially, the researchers injected a “bio-ink” made of hydrogel particles and cartilage cells into the backs of mice. Next, the bio-inks were exposed to the ear-shaped patterns of near-infrared light. This critical step allowed the hydrogel particles to stick together and develop layer-by-layer into parts-shaped structures. Over the next month, the cartilage cells grew around the hydrogel structures, eventually creating structure similar to the cartilage structures of real human cars. Throughout the process, the mice experienced no significant side effects.

The famous Vacanti mouse of the 1990s also had a human-like ear grown on its back, but it was made by implanting a pre-made plastic structure seeded with cartilage cells underneath the skin, rather than 3D printing the structure directly at the site.

The researchers hope the new technique could be used to construct new ears for people born with microtia, a condition that prevents the parts from developing properly. “We are making effort improve this technique for future treatment of human ear defects,” says Gou.

The nonsurgical 3D printing technique could also potentially be used to repair damaged cartilage in noses, fingers, toes or elbows, says Derek Rosenzweig at McGill University in Canada. In contrast, hip and deep knee cartilage defects may be harder to fix, because near-infrared light usually only penetrates about 2 centimeters into the body, he says.

Gou’s team hopes to eventually adapt the technique to fix other damaged organs like the heart or lungs. However, “this will be more challenging because the heart and lungs contain multiple cell types, which are deeper in the body and arc constantly contracting and relaxing,” says Rosenzweig.

1What is special about the new 3D technique?

A.It requires new surgical methods. B.It causes unexpected side effects.

C.It produces many customized body parts. D.It allows new body parts to grow in the body.

2According to the passage, which of the following matters most in the experiment process of Gou’s team?

A.The hydrogel particles. B.The cartilage cells.

    C.The near-infrared light. D.The pre-made plastic structure.

3What does Rosenzweig think of the technique?

    A.It's life-saving. B.It needs improving.

C.It’s still impossible. D.It’s getting common.

4What is the best title for the text?

A.New Method of Constructing Body Parts. B.A Breakthrough in Treating Body Defects.

C.A New Technique Requiring No Surgery. D.Body Parts Can Be 3D-Printed Inside the Body.

  • 24、Food labels already indicate how good or bad a product is for you. But good or bad for the planet? That’s often much less clear. Now a growing number of brands are labeling their products to show their climate impact.

Swedish food company Felix is one of them. For two days in October, Felix opened a pop-up store in Stockholm, where all items were priced based on their carbon footprint. The bigger their emissions, the higher the price. The idea was to demonstrate how easy it is for shoppers to make climate-friendly choices when products are clearly labeled.

“We know that the numbers alone don’t make sense to consumers,”says Sjöberg, Felix’s marketing manager, “To give the figures meaning, we have created a climate scale that clearly shows the current average and which climate footprint is low.”

Evaluating a food’s true carbon footprint isn’t easy and brands are teaming up with specialist platforms that deal with data using complex calculation tools to work out emissions across the whole production chain.

Oatly calculates the footprint of its oat-based drinks, from the agricultural processes all the way to the grocery store, with the help of CarbonCloud, a startup spun out of research at Chalmers University of Technology, in Sweden. “We have developed a web platform that allows the food producers to perform detailed climate assessments without them needing to understand any of the science or the mathematics behind it,”explains CarbonCloud CEO David Bryngelsson.

Companies like Oatly input information including their ingredients, energy use, waste production and how products are shipped, and CarbonCloud's web tool does the rest.

CarbonCloud has done assessments for hundreds of products and brands including Estrella, Nude and Naturli, and says interest is increasing rapidly.

At the moment the food industry doesn’t have a standardized approach to calculating carbon figures, but Sjöberg says the most important thing is to give consumers the information that9s currently available.

“In the future, hopefully we will see a common ground for how we calculate and how we label products,” he says. “But as for right now, the climate can’t wait.”

【1】What is special about the products in the pop-up store in Stockholm?

    A.They are climate- friendly.

B.They are good for people's health.

C.They are priced based on carbon emissions.

D.They are labeled to show nutrition contents.

【2】Which company is mainly responsible for calculating carbon footprint?

    A.Felix.

    B.Oatly.

    C.Estrella.

    D.CarbonCloud.

【3】What is Sjöberg’s attitude towards calculating carbon figures?

    A.Supportive.

    B.Skeptical.

    C.Carefree.

    D.Negative.

    【4】What’s the text mainly about?

    A.A newly-opened food store.

B.A growing trend of labeling food.

C.A new approach to calculating carbon footprint.

D.A climate scale to show current average carbon emissions.
