二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Researchers from the University of Copenhagen, ETH Zurich and France’s National Research Institute developed an algorithm(算法) that seeks to identify a series of emotions(情绪) animals could be experiencing, which would help farmers learn the emotional state of animals in an effort to improve their productivity and well-being(健康).

The study focused on more than 7000 audio recordings of pigs in different situations. The behavior of the pigs was observed in both positive and negative situations. Positive situations included when pigs were being fed or were reunited with family members. Negative situations included separations, fights or being prepared for slaughter. The researchers also studied the pigs in controlled environments. During these experiments, some of the pigs were given different foods and objects, while others were not. Behaviors of the animals were followed, and pig sounds were recorded. The team examined the recorded material and attempted to identify similarities in the sounds linked to different situations and emotions.

The researchers state that pigs make different noises based on what they are experiencing at the time they make the sounds. And these sounds can be linked to different emotions. Lower-pitched calls were linked to both positive or negative emotions, while higher-pitched(音调高) sounds were usually measured in negative situations. There are clear differences in pig calls when they look at positive or negative situations. Elodie Briefer, an associate professor from the University of Copenhagen, noted that in positive situations, the sounds were far shorter with few changes in strength levels. On the other hand, lower-pitched sounds usually began high, but then dropped lower.

By training the algorithm to recognize the sounds in different situations, the team said it was able to identify the correct emotion 92 percent of the time. “With additional data and training, the algorithm can be a valuable tool for helping improve the emotional health of pigs and other farm animals in the future. Now, we need someone who wants to develop the algorithm into an app that farmers can use to improve the welfare of their animals,” Briefer said.

【1】Why did researchers develop the new algorithm according to paragraph 1?

    A.To recognize farm animal sounds.

    B.To understand animals’ emotions.

C.To study vocal skills of farm animals.

D.To record the growth of farm animals.

【2】What is paragraph 2 mainly about?

    A.The importance of the study.

    B.The results of the experiment.

C.The methods of conducting the study.

    D.The limitations of the experiment.

    【3】Pigs probably produce higher-pitched sounds when ________ .

    A.they feel sad and lonely

B.they lie in the warm sun

    C.they stay with their families

    D.they are given abundant food

【4】What can we know from Briefer’s words in the last paragraph?

    A.Researchers have developed an app.

    B.The algorithm needs further study.

C.The health of farm animals depends on their emotions.

D.The algorithm can help improve farm animals’ emotional health.

  • 22、   Every one needs friends. We all like to feel close to someone. It is nice to have a friend to talk, laugh and do so many things together with. Surely, there are times when we need to be alone. We don't always want people around. But we would feel lonely if we never had a friend.

No two people are the same. Sometimes friends don't get along well. That doesn't mean that they no longer like each other. Most of the time they will go on being friends. Sometimes friends move away. Then they feel very sad. We miss them very much. But we can call them and write to them. Maybe we would never see them again. And we can make new friends. It is surprising to find out how much we like new people when we get to know them. Families sometimes name their children after a close friend. Many places are named after men and women, if they are friendly to people in town. Some libraries are named this way. So are some schools. We think of these people when we go to these places.

There's more good news for people, if they have friends. These people live longer than those who don't have friends. Why? It could be that they are happier. Being happy helps you stay well. Or it could be just knowing that someone cares about you. If someone cares about you, you take better care of yourself.

1Which of the following is what the writer doesn't say in the passage?

A.People are happy when their friends leave them.

B.Maybe people will never see their friends after their friends move away.

C.People can know their friends in different ways.

D.People like their friends very much if they get to know them.

2Which of the following is the most probable place people name after friendly people?

    A.A house B.A room.

    C.A village D.A library

    3This passage tells us ________.

A.that people are all friends B.that people need friends

C.how to get to know friends D.how to name a place

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Henry was a college student at UC Santa Cruz. For years, he had been saving up to buy a decent used car. He had a part-time job at a local coffee shop. He repainted a room in his neighbor’s house in his free time. He had an internship (实习) at a software company. He saved a lot: Christmas money, birthday money, a penny here, a penny there.

While Henry worked to buy a car, Hua Kuan had a car to sell. Kuan was born and lived in Mexico for about 13 years. His parents had immigrated there from China.

In Mexico, he didn’t really grow up in a very nice area. He had to work when he was young, a lot of restaurant work—cleaning dishes, bussing tables.

Kuan’s family headed north to California in the late 1990s. A few years later, he was awarded a full scholarship to UC Berkeley. During Kuan’s junior year, his proud parents bought him a first car.

Kuan’s parents were blue-collar workers, and worked very hard for their money. They bought the car for their son, which was the only gift they were able to provide for him. And Kuan had been driving that car since it was brand new for about 14 years.

However, Kuan is a 35-year-old dentist now. His friends convinced him to upgrade his ride, so he listed his beloved car for sale on Craigslist. By chance, Henry saw the ad for the black car with gold wheels and over 150,000 miles. However, it was priced at $7000. He fell in love with the car the first time he saw it, and thought it just might be the one. Although it was a little bit over his budget, he determined to take a chance.

    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

So last Saturday, he headed north to meet Kuan.
