21、Ludwig van Beethoven is undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians that ever lived. Unfortunately, he died while still working on his 10th Symphony (交响曲). Now, a team of musicians and scientists have used artificial intelligence(AI) to complete the artist’s final work.
Dr. Matthias Roder first came up with the idea to complete the composition in 2019, believing it was a special way to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday in December 2020. He invited music composer Walter Werzowa and Dr. Ahmed Elgammal, the creator of AI technology for the art market to help him with the great task.
Elgammal and his partner started the process by first familiarizing the AI software with a wide range of classical music, and then, narrowed it to just Beethoven’s work. Meanwhile, Werzowa and his group tried to understand the rough sketches (草稿) and the handful of notes that detailed Beethoven’s plans for the 10th Symphony.
The team then began the careful task of feeding the AI software musical notes from the unfinished composition. Elgammal says that since music has fixed rules, AI can predict the next note reasonably accurately. However, it starts to deviate from the central theme after a few notes. To stay true to Beethoven’s original composition, Elgammal’s team sent Werzowa hundreds of AI-produced musical note every evening. Werzowa would listen to them and then select the one that he thought was closest to what the artist would have written. The AI team would add the music and rerun the software to produce the next suggestions. And piece by piece, the team was able to complete Beethoven’s 10th Symphony!
Not surprisingly, the AI-produced work is causing some debates. Some people believe technology should not be used in the human creative process. Elgammal and his team believe their AI software is not out to replace humans — it is just a tool to help artists to express themselves in new ways.

22、 A research project called Mineral has created robots that move around in farm fields, aiming to use computers to help farmers grow more food in ways that are healthy for the environment.
In the past, when farmers have tried to quickly increase the amount they produce, they’ve used methods that aren’t always healthy for the environment—more fields, fertilizers (化肥), and pesticides (杀虫剂).
Mineral’s team spent several years talking to farmers to see what problems they were having and how these problems might be fixed. That led to the creation of special robots, called “plant buggies (小车)”.
The robots can take detailed pictures of plants, track each plant’s location, and measure the plant’s size. They can even do things humans can’t, like counting all of the small buds on a plant.
Before, farmers had information about the soil and the weather, but they couldn’t track every plant. Now, with Mineral’s robots, they can. By collecting a lot of information like this, Mineral believes computers can help farmers make predictions about how their plants will grow.
Studying each individual plant could save time and money. For example, if robots can detect which plants have diseases, farmers can quickly get rid of these plants before they ruin the entire crop.
The detailed information will also allow farmers to fertilize and water the plants that truly need it, meaning fewer plants will be spoiled and more food will be produced.
Currently, the Mineral team is working in countries around the world, Including Argentina, South Africa, and Canada, learning how computers and robots can help farmers produce more food in ways that are good for the environment.
【1】How did farmers increase production quickly in the past?
A.Improving soil. B.Employing robots.

【3】What can the robots do?
A.Control a plant’s size. B.Collect detailed information.
C.Change a plant’s location. D.Get rid of diseased plants.
【4】Which words best describe the new farming method?
A.Energy-consuming and chemical-free.
B.Efficient and chemical-free.
C.Environmentally-friendly and land-occupying.
D.Efficient and environmentally-friendly.

26、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
CLEAN UP YOUR BUTTS AND BAGS
All sorts of items become litter, but two of the most common and most dangerous are cigarette butts and plastic bags. Litter is a big problem for our environment, but it is a problem that individuals can easily do something about. Not littering at all or cleaning up litter, such as cigarette butts and plastic bags, greatly improves the quality of our environment.
Although cigarette butts are small, they are bad for the environment. Over 1,600 billion cigarettes are smoked each year in China and large quantities of the butts are thrown away. Worldwide, about 4.5 trillion butts are littered every year. Apart from the fact that butts spoil the beauty of the environment, they contain some very toxic chemicals. These find their way into the water supply where they decrease the quality of the water and endanger plants and animals that live there. Because there are so many butts and because they can take up to 5 years to break down, the toxic chemicals add up to a large amount. So, if people have to smoke, they should not throw away the butts but put them in the rubbish bin instead.
Plastic bags are another common form of litter that is a danger to the environment. There are several reasons for this. They are made from oil and gas, which are non-renewable resources, if they are not recycled, these resources are lost to us. In China, 2 billion plastic bags are used every day. An enormous number of these become litter. This is a huge problem because they last from 20 to 1,000 years in the environment. They float easily in air and water and travel long distances. They find their way to rivers, parks, beaches and oceans. Plastic bags kill up to one million seabirds, 100,000 sea mammals and countless fish each year worldwide. When the animal dies and breaks down, the plastic bag can become free again to kill another animal. It is up to people not to let plastic bags become litter. It would be better if they used fewer and recycled them.
Cleaning up your cigarette butts and plastic bags would improve the environment. The earth would be a better place because it would be less polluted. And we would know that we were doing something to look after our planet. However, I believe the best solution would be not to smoke or use plastic bags at all.
