二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Emma Watson entered our lives as the perfect Hermione Granger in 2001, and 16 years later, we’re just as much in love with this charming, intelligent British girl, as ever. You may or may not be a Potter head, but a lot of people are charmed by Emma Watson’s perfection.

Despite being a star performer at the young age of 11, she’s never gone the Hollywood spoiled child route. In fact, she made all attempts to stay as normal as possible. She said, “Ignoring fame was my rebellion, in a funny way. I was insistent on being normal and doing normal things. It probably wasn’t advisable to go to college in America and room with a complete stranger. And it probably wasn’t wise to share a bathroom with eight oilier people in a dormitory. Looking back, I think that was crazy.”

She added, “I was very well-educated. My dad paid for me to go to a very good school, so I worked hard every single day at that school to make him proud of me. And I did, and I still do.”

If we had to imagine what Hermione Granger would have grown up to be like, we would say she’d be the Emma Watson of the Potter universe because there really is no way to separate the two. In the last few years, Emma has added more feathers to her cap than we imagined being humanly possible, which include actor, scholar, model arid UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. In her role as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, she’d supported powerful causes to the best of her ability and brought them all the attention they deserve.

Emma Watson gave us the most accurate description of our favorite girl from the Potter universe. “Young girls are told you have to be a delicate princess. Hermione taught them that you can be a warrior.”

1After Emma Watson became an actress, she   .

    A. followed most of the Hollywood child route

    B. had a preference for a normal life

    C. became rebellious in a funny way

    D. went to a good college instead

2What does the author mean by “Emma has added more feathers to her cap” in Para 4?

    A. Emma has earned more titles.

    B. Emma wears a cap with feathers.

    C. Emma is expert at designing caps.

    D. Emma has been more absorbed in her job.

3What can be the best title for the text?

    A. Emma Watson: You Can Be the Best Actress.

    B. Emma Watson: You Can Be a Warrior.

    C. The Way to Be a Delicate Princess.

    D. The Way to Be a Good Performer.

4What’s the author’s attitude to Emma Watson?

    A. Critical.   B. Objective.

    C. Cautious.   D. Appreciative,

  • 22、   All adults at some time or another commit (犯罪) a crime, sometimes by accident, but why do some people intentionally commit crimes? Here are three theories that try to explain the causes of criminal behaviour.

    GENETIC (遗传的) CAUSES

The idea that some people commit crimes because of biological causes has a long tradition. This theory suggests that criminals are born, not made. In the 19th century some people even thought brain sizes and skull shapes could explain criminal behaviour. Although experts today no longer believe this, they do argue that human behaviour can be linked to an individual’s genes. Studies of adopted children who show criminal behaviour suggest that their behaviour is more similar to their biological parents behaviour-than their adoptive parents’, showing a genetic link.

    ENVIRONMENT

This theory states that a person’s surroundings influence their behaviour. Just as children learn good behaviour from their parents and brothers or sisters, children can learn bad behaviour from their families and other close relationships. Researchers in this area argue that early anti-social (反社会的) behaviour in childhood often leads to a future of criminal behaviour. It is a dangerous circle, as one expert states: “Problem children are likely to grow up into problem adults, and problem adults are likely to produce more problem children.”

    CHOICE

The central idea of this theory is that crime is a career decision, an alternative (可选择的) way of making a living. The theory argues that most criminals are sensible people, who know what they want and the different ways of getting it, i.e. work or crime. They are able to balance the risks of committing a crime, such as going to prison, against its benefits, i.e. what they gain if they aren’t caught. The conclusion is: if there are more benefits than risks, do it, but if there are more risks than benefits, don’t do it.

1What does the second theory conclude?

    A.A family determines a child’s future.

    B.Relatives play a key role in a person’s crime.

C.Uneducated children tend to become criminals.

D.The environment greatly influences people’s behaviour.

2According to the text, criminals ________.

A.consider what they can lose and gain in a crime

B.don’t think before they decide on a life of crime

C.tend to believe they can avoid the risks of a crime

D.often achieve their goals through crime instead of work

3What can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.Types of crimes

    B.Crimes and punishments

    C.Why do people commit crimes?

    D.What influences will crimes have?

  • 23、Taktak tabulaba?

You probably don’t know how to answer that question---unless you happen to be one of the about 430 people in the world who speak a language called Matukar Panau. Then you would know it means “What are we doing?” Matukar Panau is one of the world’s rarest languages. It is spoken in just two small coastal villages in Papua New Guinea.

Several years ago, David Harrison, a language expert didn’t know much about Matukar Panau either. No one had ever recorded or even studied its words and rules. With so few speakers, the language risked disappearing soon. It was endangered.

Harrison didn’t want that to happen to Matukar Panau. So in 2009, he set out for Papua New Guinea. His goal: use modern technology to help the remaining speakers preserve their native tongue.

But Matukar Panau is far from the only language facing loss. Studies suggest that by the end of this century, nearly half of the 7,000 languages now spoken worldwide could disappear. They’re in danger partly because the only people left speaking them are elderly adults, Harrison says. When those individuals die, their language will die with them. In addition, children may discard a native language and instead use more common global languages, such as Chinese, English or Spanish.

In the United States alone, 134 native American languages are endangered. Harrison says, “language hotspots” exist all over the world. These are places with endangered languages that haven’t been recorded. They include the state of Oklahoma, pockets of central and eastern Siberia, parts of northern Australia and communities in South America.

1The purpose of using the question “Taktak tabulaba?” is to ________.

    A.introduce a new foreign language

B.introduce the topic of the text

C.show the difficulty understanding Matukar Panau

D.stress the importance of Matukar Panau

2The underline word “discard” in Paragraph 4 means _______.

    A.get rid of B.pick up

    C.hear of D.learn about

3The last two paragraphs imply that endangered languages are _________.

    A.dying quickly in Siberia

    B.popular in some special places

    C.becoming a worldwide problem

    D.some native tongues

  • 24、When you are a child, the whole world is like a big playground. I was living in Conyers, Georgia the summer when it all happened. I was a second grader, and my best friend Stephanie was only in the first grade. Both of our parents were at work and most of the time they let us go our own way.

It was a hot afternoon and we decided to have an adventure in Stephanie's basement. As I opened the basement door, I spotted a red steel can.It was paint. I looked beyond it and there lay even more paint in bright colors like purple, orange, blue and green.

"Stephanie, I just found us a project for the day. Get some paintbrushes. Let’s paint." She screamed with excitement as I told her of my plans and immediately we got to work. We gathered all the brushes we could find and moved all of our materials to my yard. There on the road in front of my house, we painted big stripes(条纹)of colors across the pavement (人行道). Stripe by stripe, our colors turned into a beautiful rainbow. It was fantastic!

The sun was starting to sink. I saw a car in the distance and jumped up as I recognized the car. It was my mother. I couldn't wait to show her my masterpiece. The car pulled slowly into the driveway and from the look on my mother's face, I could tell that I was in deep trouble.

My mother shut the car door and walked towards me. Her eyes glaring, she shouted, "What in the world were you thinking?I understood when you made castles out of leaves, and climbed the neighbors' trees, but this!Come inside right now!"I stood there glaring back at her for a minute, angry because she had insulted (侮辱) my art.

"Now go clean it up!"Mother and I began cleaning the road. Tears ran down my cheeks as I saw my beautiful rainbow turn into black cement(水泥).

Though years have now passed, I still wonder where my rainbow has gone. I wonder if, maybe when I get older, I can find my rainbow and never have to brush it away. I guess we all need some sort of rainbow to brighten our lives from time to time and to keep our hopes and dreams colorful.

1What did the writer want to do when his mother came home?

    A. To introduce Stephanie to her.

    B. To prevent her from seeing his painting.

    C. To put the materials back in the yard.

    A. was a born artist   B. always caused trouble

    A. the rainbow in the sky   B. the stripes on the pavement

  • 26、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Maybe we all live in each other’ spaces. Perhaps this is what the photo I took during a summer holiday is for if you treat others with patience and tolerance, then you’ll likely be repaid in another space.

Fifteen years ago, I took a trip in Lecce in southern Italy that summer. Lecce is an important stage for art and culture lovers. Walking in the city center is a dive into the past, between churches and antique buildings that keep precious details and decorations. More importantly, it’s an ideal place for photographers.

One morning, I got up early enough for a panoramic view of the sunrise, the blue sea, white buildings and green olive trees. After climbing up a hill, I paused to catch my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.

Unluckily, I was about to take out my camera when suddenly a woman approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of my view. Like me, I thought, this woman was here to stop for a short rest, and enjoy the scenery. Beyond my expectation, she stood still as if something caught her eye, not noticing anyone else’s presence around her.

Patient as I was, after about 10 minutes, with my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the shot I would eventually take, I got bored. Was it too much to ask her to move aside so that I could take just one picture of the landscape? Of course, I could have asked her, but something prevented me from doing so. She seemed so content in her observation that I didn’t have the heart to mess with that.

Another 10 minutes passed. However, the woman was still there. I grew frustrated. I decided to take the photo anyway. With an unwilling touch of the shutter, I left in low spirits.

    注意:

    1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

    2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;

    3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好:

    4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。
