21、CONGRATULATIONS to WarnerMedia on the launch of HBO Max. As an HBO subscriber, I am excited about the programming on the platform. While I am sure the streaming service will continue to improve with time, please consider removing Gone With the Wind from your library of films.
As a filmmaker, I get that movies are often brief descriptions of moments in history. They reflect not only the attitudes and opinions of those involved in their creation, but also those of the prevailing culture. As such, even the most well-intentioned films can fall short in how they represent marginalized communities.
Gone With the Wind, however, has its own unique problem. It is a film that glorifies the American South during the Civil War. It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horror of slavery, pauses only to continue some of the most painful images of people of color. It is a film that romanticizes the USA in 1860s in a way that continues to admit that the secessionist movement is something better or more noble than what it was.
Let me be really clear: I would just ask, after a respectful amount of time has passed, that the film be reintroduced to the HBO Max platform along with other films that give a complete picture of what slavery and the USA in 1860s truly were. Or, perhaps it could be paired with conversations about narrative and why it is important to have many voices sharing stories from different perspectives rather than merely those reinforcing the views of the prevailing culture.
Currently, there is not even a warning coming before the film. I know taking down a film—particularly a classic Hollywood film—seems like a big request. But it is not nearly as big a demand as when your children ask whether they can join protests in the streets against racism, or when they come to you wanting to know what you did to make the world a better place.
I plan on keeping my subscription to HBO Max. But I hope that those in decision-making positions at WarnerMedia can understand how painful it is to see one film in particular that has helped to continue the racism that is causing angry and grieving Americans to take to the streets.

22、Hungarian Jewish activist Rezso Kasztner, a brilliant, self-confident lawyer and journalist was directly responsible for liberating 1, 684 Jews on a train to Switzerland.
Struggling to save the Hungarian Jews,by the war ended, he had preserved some 100,000 more lives by bargaining (讨价还价) with the Nazis, including Adolf Eichman and Kurt Becher among other officers. He did this by making use of the Nazi weaknesses of greed and need “blood for goods”. Kasztner offered money, jewelry and the promise of war materiel (物资) that he knew could never be delivered in exchange for Jewish lives. He and the other activists were able to save only a small number of their people, as nearly half a million Hungarians.
Jews were sent to Auschwitz to be killed in just few months. The selection of those who were saved, especially on the train, had bothered Kasztner ever since.
After the war, Kasztner and his family emigrated to Israel, where he expected to be welcomed as a hero. Instead, they found tension between settlers and refugees (难民), and because Kasztner had to pretend to make friends with Nasis, he was attacked as a Nazi collaborator (勾结者). When he charged one of his accusers (a man who was jealous (嫉妒) of him back in Hungary) with libel (谤罪), the judge ruled against him because of the struggle for power between the political parties in Israel.
The real Rezso Kasztner was an extraordinary man who played a high-risk game with the devil. And he won in the only game of saving human lives. He achieved more in his way than any other individual in Nazi-occupied Europe. In the end all he lost was his own life.
【1】What can we learn about Rezso Kasztner from the passage?

B.To be sheltered by Nazis.
C.To get more support.
D.To save more people.
【3】The court ruled against Kasztner in Israel because he ________.
A.was a Nazi collaborator
B.defended the Nazis as a lawyer
C.declared the law of Israel unjust
D.got caught in Israeli political conflict
【4】What is the passage mainly about?
A.A man’s heroic deeds in saving Hungarian Jews.
B.The crimes committed by the Nazis.
C.The darkness of Nazi-occupied Europe.
D.People’s different views about heroes.
23、 Don’t you wish those long summer days could last forever? An island in northern Norway is campaigning to do just that.
Sommarøy — meaning “Summer Island” — wants to swap its watches for flower garlands and declare itself the world’s first time-free zone.
On this island in West Tromsø, north of the Arctic Circle, the sun doesn’t set from May 18 right through to July 26, a full 69 days.
The locals, having endured the long polar night from November to January, when the sun doesn’t rise at all, make the most of these precious months, with no regard to conventional timekeeping.
“There’s constantly daylight, and we act accordingly,” says islander Kjell Ove Hveding in a statement. “In the middle of the night, which city folk might call ‘2 a.m.’, you can spot children playing soccer, people painting their houses or mowing their lawns, and teens going for a swim.”
Now they want to make it official. Islanders gathered at a town hall meeting to sign a petition for a time-free zone and on June 13, Hveding met with a Norwegian member of parliament to hand over the locals' signatures and to discuss the practical and legal challenges of the initiative.
“To many of us, getting this in writing would simply mean formalizing something we have been practicing for generations,” he says.
Islanders hope to be free of traditional opening hours and to introduce flexibility in school and working hours. Fishing and tourism are the main industries on this island with a population of little more than 300 people.
Hveding says local fishermen and women often spend days on the ocean pursuing their catch, with little regard to timetable.
It’s clear they mean business. When visitors cross the bridge to the island from the mainland, they aren't greeted with padlocks (symbolizing love locks) like on similar bridges worldwide. The bridge is covered with watches, as people prepare for entry to the land time forgot.
Will the islanders succeed in their efforts? It’s already paying off in a publicity boost, which could well be the primary aim of the campaign.
【1】What is special about Sommarøy?
A.It’s summer all year around. B.No clocks can be found there.
C.It’s within Arctic Circle. D.It’s too cold to be inhabited by human being.
【2】Why do the islanders want to be free of conventional timekeeping?
A.They are afraid of night. B.They want to have more flexible schedules.
C.They want to catch more fish. D.They need more time.
【3】What does the underlined word “petition” in paragraph 6 mean?
A.A formal request. B.A cheque. C.A contract. D.An official document.
【4】Why is the bridge to the island covered with watches?
A.To symbolize love. B.To protest against the government.
C.To remind tourists of entering a time-free zone. D.To keep tradition.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was sitting at my desk surrounded by New Year gifts, feeling happy that I had managed to buy some hard — to — find items. These were for Kids Need More, a charitable organization offering services to socially disadvantaged children. One of its most popular events is the Holiday Cheer Bus. The organization always fills the buses with donated gifts for the families on the Cheer Bus routes. Each bus is manned by a team of volunteers. My family had been volunteers for years. I had a list of the families on our route.
Just as I was packing up the items with my husband and my son, I received a call from the director of the organization. She asked if I could add a family to my route— here was a young mother, Leanne, and her son.
I called Leanne and told her that a Holiday Cheer Bus would be visiting her family. Leanne seemed really excited and began to cry. I comforted her, “The Holiday Cheer Bus is really going to come. Is there something special that your child would like?”
“My son is three. All he wants is a pair of Spider-Man snow boots so that he can play outside in the snow. ”
I asked about her son's shoe size. She told me the size and I promised I would have Spider-Man snow boots in size 9 for her son.
After I said goodbye and ended the call, panic set in. It was two days before the Holiday Cheer Bus was going on its run, less than a week before New Year. I was going to need a holiday miracle to find Spider-Man snow boots in size 9.
“We have to go shopping!" I called out to my husband and son. They were surprised but still we set off. We went to a few department stores and the shoe departments, without success. We were tired and hungry. We were becoming disheartened. My son suggested giving Leanne a gift card so she could get the boots herself. But I didn't want to give up. I promised we would bring boots.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
