21、Do you like to keep fit? We’re always told that regular exercise is good for our body and mind. More and more people are taking up activities that improve their fitness. But is there a risk that some of us might get obsessed (着迷的) and overdo it?
Well, for some people, fitness has become an obsession as they aim for perfection. And fitness trackers and apps can add to this addiction, especially if someone is driven by achievement and perfectionism. And sharing data on social media means exercising becomes public and competitive, which could cause problems in someone who is vulnerable (脆弱的). Experts say this can lead to a medical condition called orthorexia nervosa, or addiction to healthy eating and over-exercise. Untreated, it can lead to malnutrition and mental health complications.
Too much exercise can also take its toll on someone’s physical health as well. Symptoms of over-exercising include injuries such as a broken leg and a low immune system. So how much exercise is too much? Researches found the ideal pace to jog was about eight kilometers per hour-and that it was best to jog no more than three times a week or for 2.5 hours in total, showing that moderate jogging is possibly more beneficial than being inactive or undertaking strenuous (剧烈的) jogging.
If you’re more of a couch potato than a sprinter, this might sound like good news. But for amateur athletes who can’t help but push their bodies to the limit, the advice from Martin Turner, a sports and exercise psychologist, is, “It’s all about letting go, not being obsessed, learning not to control everything, saying, “You don’t need to be perfect.”

22、 The well-known Spanish painter Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he/ she grows up.”
This is both encouraging and discouraging. The fact that we were all born to be artists is surely exciting. But the reality has proven that remaining to be an artist is a task that many of us have failed.
Fortunately, some people have seen the problem and want to solve it. Western educators have suggested that we introduce the concept of “STEAM” instead of “STEM”—traditional “core majors including science, technology, engineering and math—since the “A”, which stands for “art”, is just important as well.
And on April 11, China’s Ministry of Education issued a guideline. Colleges and universities are required to provide more art-related courses and students need to earn a certain number of art credits (学分) in order to graduate.
These efforts came after many scientific studies had found that art education helps students develop self-confidence and teamwork skills, as well as habits of mind such as problem solving and critical thinking.
It’s true that none of these skills target specific jobs. But as former US ballet dancer Damian Woetzel told The Atlantic, the purpose of art is “to give kids the tools to become adults who are creative, adaptable and expressive— capable of having their eyes and ears and senses alive And we can now see how we lost track of our born “artist self” on our way to growing up: we failed to keep our capabilities to see, hear and feel, and became blind, deaf and insensitive adults.
Hopefully, art education can help turn things around.
【1】What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To introduce a famous painter.
B.To summarize the whole passage.
C.To inspire us to be artists.
D.To lead in the topic.
【2】According to western educators, why should “STEAM” be introduced?
A.Art is as equally important as “core majors”.
B.Western education is more useful.
C.Traditional “core majors” are out of date.
D.All of us should learn art in college.
【3】What can we know from the guideline issued by China’s Ministry of Education?
A.More students will major in art.
B.More art courses will appear in all schools.
C.College students will have to gain enough art credits to graduate.
D.Art will become more important than science, technology and engineering.
【4】The passage mainly tells us ________.
A.every child is an artist.
B.bringing art to life is essential.
C.life is full of art.

25、Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A. B. C and D. Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.
It’s been so long that I can’t remember the crime, but I’ll never forget the punishment: Dig up the fig tree (无花果) in the backyard and plant it at Mumsy’s place in the country. As I often did when appointed to do a hard job in the garden, I this was my parents’ way of getting me to do their dirty work.
It was a Sunday morning. With some tools, I went at the tree, dismantling (拆卸) it branch by branch and limb by limb, until all that remained of the once-proud specimen was a sorry-looking stump of a thing.
“What did that ever do to you?”, my father said, “You left some taproot (主根), at least. Go and load up the truck.” On any other day before, during the to mumsy’s, we would have pleasantly school as usual, but I fenced myself off that time.
Then, at Mumsy’s, instead of sitting back to watch me work, he me. As my father and I took turns to work, I could feel my anger , making room for the simple satisfaction of working at my father’s side towards a common goal.
“ Well,” my father said when we finished, “ we’ve done what we can do.” “Do you think there’s any that it can grow up?” I asked. “It’s rich dirt. They say you can plant toenails in it and grow little kids.” My father answered. I never tried the toenail trick, but I did watch as it settled in, took root, and began to prosper. I was amazed and when bowls of figs began to fill the fridge.
In a fair world, I don’t deserve the reward. I had hurt the tree for my own complaints. What right did I have to the fruit? Years later, I put this to my father. Watching him slide a bowl of figs from the fridge one morning, I felt a sudden stab of shame for my boyhood . My father took a fig from the bowl and let me think of the fruit as forgiveness. “You,” he said, “ some of that.”
