21、How to Prevent Dehydration
When the weather’s warm, you need to make sure you drink enough water. But did you know that you lose your sense of thirst as you get older? This means you're more likely to become dehydrated, making you more prone to (有倾向) falls, heart disease, urinary-tract infections, kidney stones and confusion. A study from Loughborough University in the UK has shown that drivers who had only a little water an hour made twice as many mistakes as motorists who were properly hydrated. In fact, they made a similar number of errors to what you’d expect from someone over the drink-drive limit.
So how do you know when you’re dehydrated? Warning signs include:
*Feeling tired
*Dry mouth and dry skin
*Dark urine
*Reduced appetite (食欲)
*Reduced concentration
*Headache
*Constipation.
But you might not notice any symptoms (症状)at all,so to make sure you stay hydrated:
*Keep a glass of water by your side when you’re at home, and drink it regularly.
*Form a new drinking habit—for example, when watching TV, always reach for the water glass during an ad break.
*Take a small bottle of water with you when you go out.
*Always drink a large glass of water with a meal.
*Eat fruit and vegetables with high water content.
*Draw up a weekly water card—a bit like a coffee loyalty card—with a target of eight glasses of water a day. Mark it every time you have a glass of water. Award yourself a prize when ifs full at the end of the week,
*Drink water before, during and after you take any exercise.

A.occur only in warm weather
B.make you get older and older
C.be easily noticed in our daily life
D.cause physical and mental problems
【3】To make sure you stay hydrated, you’d better .
A.take no notice of the warning signs
B.leave some water within your reach
C.eat any fruit and vegetables you like
D.award yourself eight glasses of water
22、 Most of us marry creativity to our concept of self either we're "creative" or we aren't much of a middle ground. "I'm just not a creative person!” a frustrated student might say in art class, while another might blame her talent at painting for her difficulties in math, giving a comment such as, “I’m very right-brained."
Dr. Pillay, a tech entrepreneur and an assistant professor at Harvard University, has been challenging these ideas. He believes that the key to unlocking your creative potential is to ignore the traditional advice that urges you to “believe in yourself.” In fact, you should do the opposite: Believe you are someone else.
Dr. Pillay points to a 2016 study demonstrating the impact of stereotypes on one's behavior. The authors, educational psychologists Denis Dumas and Kevin Dunbar, divided their college student subjects into three groups, instructing the members of one to think of themselves as "romantic poets" and the members of another to imagine they were "serious librarians" (the third group was the control). The researchers then presented all the participants with ten ordinary objects, including a fork, a carrot, and a pair of pants, and asked them to come up with as many different uses as possible for each one. Those who were asked to imagine themselves as romantic poets came up with the widest range of ideas, whereas those in the serious-librarian group had the fewest. Meanwhile, the researchers found only small differences in students' creativity levels across academic majors.
These results suggest that creativity is not a fixed individual characteristic but a malleable product of context and perspective, as long as he or she feels like a creative person. Dr. Pillay argues that, besides identifying yourself as creative, taking the bold, creative step of imagining you are somebody else is even more powerful. So, wish you were more creative? Just pretend!
【1】Who is more likely to unlock his creative potential?
A.A physics major who imagines himself a writer.
B.A math major who always believes in himself.
C.An art major who has trouble in math.
D.A history major who always dismisses conventional advice.
【2】What is the purpose of the study mentioned in pagragrph3?
A.To test the creativity of the college students.
B.To show the stereotypes of the college students.
C.To prove the influence of stereotypes on one's behavior
D.To prove difference of creativity between students.
【3】What does the underlined word in the last paragraph probably means?
A.Stable
B.Changeable
C.Predicable
D.Sustainable
【4】What does Dr. Pillay may agree with?
A.If we think of ourself as creative, then we might be really creative
B.A student who doesn’t do well in art class is not creative.
C.Right brain determines whether a person is creative or not.
D.There is no doubt that we are either creative or not.
23、New Zealand will create one of the largest marine protected areas in the world, spanning an area of 620,000 sq km.
The Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary (保护区) will be one of the world’s most significant fully protected ecosystems, the prime minister of New Zealand, John Key, told the UN General Assembly in New York.
The sanctuary is in the South Pacific Ocean, about 1,000 km north-east of New Zealand, and expands a marine reserve that surrounds some small islands. The area is considered important in terms of biodiversity, featuring nearly 35 species of whales and dolphins, 150 types of fish and three of the world’s seven sea turtle species. It is also geologically significant, including the world’s longest chain of underwater volcanoes and the second deepest ocean trench, into 10 km underwater — deeper than Mount Everest’s height. The scale of the sanctuary will dwarf (矮化) any previous New Zealand’s protected area, spanning twice the size of the country’s mainland. It will cover 15% of New Zealand’s economic zone.
Commercial and recreational fishing will be completely banned, as will oil, gas and mineral prospecting (勘探), exploration and mining. Key’s government aims to pass legislation establishing the sanctuary next year.
"The sanctuary is a world-class, unspoiled marine environment and New Zealand is proud to protect it for future generations,"Key said."New Zealanders value our coasts and oceans, which are an important part of our culture, economy and environment and we are committed to managing them sustainably. Creating protected areas will support not only our own fisheries, but those of our Pacific neighbors, adding to New Zealand’s efforts to help grow Pacific economies through the responsible management of their ocean resources."
Nick Smith, New Zealand’s environment minister, said the sanctuary might impose a cost upon the mining industry but that it is important to protect the ocean before exploration takes place."New Zealand needs to use its vast ocean resources for jobs and exports in industries like fishing, aquaculture, minerals and energy, but we also need to set aside special areas where nature comes first and marine life is fully protected,"Smith said.
New Zealand will monitor the area via its navy and satellite technology. The Kermadec region will join three other key areas in the Pacific protected by the US, the UK and Australia.
Matt Rand, director of the Pew Charitable Trusts’ Global Ocean Legacy (遗产) campaign, welcomed Key’s announcement."New Zealand will create the gold standard of conservation areas in the sanctuary, preserving one of the few ly unspoiled areas of ocean on Earth,"he said."This commitment is an exciting step toward meeting global goals to safeguard at least 30% of the ocean through fully protected marine reserves."
【1】Why is the Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary important in biodiversity?
A. It has a superior geographical location.
B. It has many different kinds of sea animals.
C. Its environment is suitable for the growth of marine life.
D. It is the only unspoiled area of ocean remained on Earth.
【2】Which of the following will Key probably agree on?
A. People are allowed to fish for fun in the sanctuary.
B. All Pacific countries should be responsible for ocean resources.
C. New Zealanders attach great importance to protecting the sanctuary.
D. New Zealand has made great achievement in creating protected areas.
【3】What can we infer from what Nick Smith said?
A. New Zealand should develop its marine industry in special areas.
B. The Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary may affect New Zealand’s mining industry.
C. New Zealand hasn’t figured out how to make full use of its ocean resources.
D. Measures should be taken immediately to protect the ocean after explorations.
24、Researchers have successfully changed the blood type of a donated human lung by treating it with enzymes(酶) marking an important step towards making universal donor organs.
Blood types are largely defined by the presence or absence of certain sugar molecules (分子) called antigens(抗原) on the surface of cells. These can occur not just on the cells of the blood itself, but other tissues. If an antigen isn’t recognized by the body’s immune system, it will mount an attack on these cells. This leads to the rejection of transplanted organs from a donor with a different blood type.
People with the most common blood type, O, lack these antigens on their cells, so their organs can be accepted by people with other blood types. If all donor organs could be made type O, for example, the lungs from someone with blood type A, this could be beneficial.
To try this, Cypel and his team used a pair of enzymes in the human stomach to digest sugars. They found the enzymes could remove 97 percent of type A antigens in the lungs from a type A donor in 4 hours, which meant the cells had been effectively changed to blood type O.
After this treatment, the altered lungs were kept alive using a system known as ex-vivo lung perfusion (离体肺灌注), which supplies organs with nutritious fluid so they are ready for transplantation. To simulate a transplant, Cypel’s team added type O blood, which contains antibodies that would attack type A antigens, to the fluid supplying the lungs. The treated lungs had minimal antibody damage compared with untreated lungs.
Although cells rid of antigens tend to produce new ones over time, Cypel hopes the lack of antigens would last long enough for the body to get through the dangerous first few days and weeks after a transplant. The team now intends to test the procedure in animals. The study only looked at the effects of a simulated transplantation over the short term, which isn’t enough to assess whether the resurfaced antigens could eventually have a negative effect.

【3】What do we know about the treated lungs from the text?
A.The blood type was temporarily changed.
B.Signs of severe rejection happened to them.
C.There was no effective way to keep them alive.
D.The enzymes were of little use in the treatment.
【4】What is the last paragraph mainly about?
