二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、It is generally accepted that blind people are limited when it comes to enjoying beautiful things around them. This month the Utrecht Central Museum in the Netherlands offered an unusual art exhibition called The Blind Spot. This exhibition was accessible to the visually disabled. Sighted visitors are encouraged to wear a blindfold on their eyes as they experience the artworks. This exhibition excited the other senses other than the visual sense. Visitors could look at artworks as expected. Besides, they could also touch and smell them. The show was designed to provide a better experience for museum goers with poor eyesight.

The Blind Spot recreated existing famous paintings, but with extra dimensions, such as sound and smell. Visitors could even get a “feel” for the art, which included touchable elements.

Visitor Manssouri seemed to enjoy his experience. He smiled as he moved his hands over cheese, grapes and bread, part of the representation of a famous 1610 painting by Floris van Dvck. “The first thing that struck me was the smell. I could really smell the fragrant cheese, and I touched it too.” Manssouri said. Manssouri wondered how the food did not fall from its unbalanced position. “That was really surprising to feel…I guess it was glued on pretty well,” Manssouri said.

Artist Jasper and designer Jeroen created The Blind Spot. They said they were inspired by an experience they shared with a blind visitor at an art show one year ago. "One day, somebody who could not see was there. At the place we served food out of this work, and we helped her touch the artwork. She was blind and she had a lot of feelings. She was touched. So we had the realization, ‘Wow, we have something.’ That moment was the starting point to actually create this exhibition.” Jasper said.

The museum’s head Steffie said The Blind Spot was an impressive experiment on the way to more such improvements.

A.Visually disabled visitors were allowed in.

B.Original famous paintings were on show.

    A.He touched his favorite artwork.

B.The smell of the food was sweet.

C.The food was fixed so firmly.

D.The paintings were made of cheese.

【3】Where did the idea of the exhibition come from?

    A.A famous 1610 painting.

B.A previous experience with a blind visitor.

    C.Realization of more sense dimensions.

    D.A blind visitor’s recommendation.

【4】What is Steffie’s attitude towards the exhibition?

    A.Grateful.

    B.Doubtful.

    C.Negative.

  • 22、   Perhaps the most common climatic effect of global warming is rapid extension of ice melt. Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and the Himalayas will very likely lose most of their glacial ice within the next two decades, affecting local water resources. NASA scientists determined Greenland’s ice sheet is thinning by about 1m per year. The additional melt water, especially from continental ice masses and glaciers, is adding to a rise in sea level worldwide. Satellite remote sensing is monitoring global sea level, sea ice, and continental ice. Worldwide measurements confirm that sea level rose during the last century.

Okay, so how much is melting of Greenland contributing to sea level rise? Estimates are about 270 gigatons of water per year. The melting of an ice sheet can occur from the surface as air temperatures and sunlight warm the upper layer of ice. It can also occur from the edges as ice shelves collapse and fall into the oceans in large pieces. The bedrock underneath the ice sheet is not also flat. There are undulations that rise and fall and change the water-ice-ground connection, which can make it easier for ice to melt and can increase the rate of ice shelf collapse. So scientists have a real interest in learning about the land underneath ice sheets so that they can better predict ice collapse and sea level rise.

Greenland ice has its feature, meaning it acts slowly but once it gets going, it’s hard to stop. So predicting how fast this melt will take is interesting from a scientific advantage point but there are also enormous social and economic consequences. Right now, 150 million people live within 3 feet of today’s sea level. If you live near the coast, the question of “when” is really important. This suggests that “when” may be sooner than we hoped.

1What does Paragraph 1 mainly talk about?

A.A rapid extension of ice melt. B.Himalayan ice.

C.Greenland’s ice sheet. D.A big rise of sea level.

2What probably speed(s) the bottom melting of an ice sheet in Greenland?

A.The rise of sea level. B.The undulant bedrock.

C.The temperature and sunlight. D.The shape of ice sheet.

3Which of the following can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A.Greenland ice is sure to melt as fast as before.

B.Scientist are indifferent to the melt of Greenland ice.

C.Greenland ice is a potential danger to people living near the coast.

D.People living within 3 feet of today’s sea level will have to move next year.

4In which programme does this text probably appear?

    A.Historical Legend. B.Planet Earth.

C.Bear Grylls: Mission Survive. D.Beyond the Red Carpet.

  • 23、   Germans have a word wanderlust which translated into English would be the desire to wander. Nowadays the chance to travel is endless. Thanks to cheap air tickets, travelling abroad is very easy and sometimes it's even cheaper to fly out of the country than to travel within your own. So, yes, travelling is cheap but there have to be other reasons to travel and you're right. There are plenty of reasons!

I have always had this feeling of wanderlust. It started from me wanting to explore my local woods at the back of my garden as a young girl and as I have grown, so has my sense of adventure. And I found my local woods being replaced with the Brazil wetland, Pantanal, where I went last summer in search of jaguars, snakes and crocodiles. The thing with travelling is that it's always different. Even if you went to the same country, to the same town and stayed in exactly the same hotel, it would be a completely different experience. The people you meet will be different, and they will tell you their own travelling stories: stories of holiday romances, holiday worries and stories that seem so outrageous that you can hardly believe them until something similar happens to you.

Or maybe the difference is you? Maybe you have changed since last time you were there? And that's the thing with travellingit changes you. When you travel you are forced to experience a new culture. Whether it's eating a guinea pig, or staying with a family where neither of you speak a common language and you have to communicate through hand actions and smiles, the experience gives me itchy feet to do it all again. And although wanderlust is a German word, the English idiom to have itchy feet has a similar idea. Someone who has itchy feet needs to leave or travel. This desire to explore is found not only in language but in us.

1According to Paragraph 2, what is the most important part of travelling?

    A.Having different experiences.

    B.Hearing many travelling stories.

    C.Experiencing holiday romances.

    D.Taking more adventures.

2The underlined word outrageous in Paragraph 2 probably means ________”.

    A.interesting B.surprising C.moving D.disappointing

3What does the underlined word it in Paragraph 3 refer to?

A.Staying with a family without common languages.

B.Communicating through hand actions and smiles.

    C.Eating a guinea pig with a family.

    D.Experiencing a different culture.

4The writer wrote the passage in order to ________.

    A.give various reasons for travelling

    B.encourage people to travel abroad

    C.explain the German word wanderlust

    D.share the writer's travelling experiences
