  • 21、   Downloading files is one of the primary uses of the Internet. You can find virtually anything online, and chances are that you've been downloading files ever since you started using your computer. Your Operating System will attempt to put all of your downloads in one central location, but eventually you may have downloaded files all over your computer. Knowing how to quickly find your downloaded files can save you a lot of time and headache.

    ● Check your Downloads folder(文件夹). Windows includes a Downloads folder that acts as the default (默认的) download location for most programs for every user. There are a couple of ways you may be able to find your Downloads folder:

Click the Start menu and then click your user name. You should see a Downloads folder in the window that opens.

Open Windows Explorer Win+E. Your Downloads folder may be listed in the left frame under "Favorites" or "Computer/This PC".

Press Win+R and type shell: downloads. Press Enter to open the Downloads folder.

    ● Check other locations. If you download with a lot of programs, chances are that your downloads have become a bit spread out. Other popular places for your downloads to appear are your Desktop and your Documents/My Documents folder.

If you have a secondary drive that acts as a file storage, check to see if you've created a download folder on it as well.

    ● Search for the file. If you know the name of the file you downloaded, you can search for it to quickly open it. Press Win and start typing the name of the file. You should see it appear in the search results.

    ● Open your downloaded files. You shouldn't have much difficulty opening most files that you download online, but you may run across a few file types that can give you problems. See the guides below for details on opening these troublesome files.

    Playing MKV video files

    ……

1This passage aims to instruct Internet users _____.

A.how to download files from the Internet

B.how to search for files on the Internet

C.how to find files downloaded from the Internet

D.how to open the folders on the Internet

2If you can’t find the file at the default download location in your computer, you might try to  _____.

    A.press Win+R B.click My Documents

C.extract an RAR file D.open the Downloads folder.

  • 22、Road trips can seem extra-long when someone else’ s unpleasant music fills the car. What if you could listen to only your music without headphones and no one else would hear it? Now researchers in France are working lo deliver such personal sound zones that adapt as conditions in your car change.

Why bother? Headphones are good at controlling what you hear, but they can be uncomfortable and even damage your hearing.

Personal listening zones inside a car could let you hear well without having to drown out other sounds with high volume. They also would bring many new possibilities. Everyone in a car could listen to their own audio privately. GPS alerts (警报) could go only to the driver. Passengers could make phone calls without being overheard.

Engineers are working to create these personal sound zones using multiple loudspeakers. They don’t tall broadcast the same signal, but the signals are coordinated (协调的). A listener whose head is in some “sweet spot” hears high-quality sound. But as one gels farther from the sweet spot, the sound diminishes. That’s because sound waves from different loudspeakers interact to cancel out each other’s sound.

According to Patricia Davies, an engineer studying sound, creating quiet zones anywhere in a three-dimensional space, like the inside of a vehicle, is challenging. One reason is that sound waves are sensitive. Changes in temperature can change how fast the waves travel. So can the number of people in the car and other factors. A small change in even one of these can have a big impact.

Still, it’s easier to create personal sound zones in cars than in other spaces. In a car, what’s interesting is that we know where the people are. The loudspeakers can be built right into the headrests.

Personal sound zones will only catch on if they work as well as headphones. If you turn on the air conditioner or pick up a passenger, the sound quality can’t go downhill. With this in mind, Melon and his team recently modified an existing system.

【1】What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3?

A.The popularity of personal listening zones.

C.The safety offered by personal listening zones.

    D.Sounds nicer.

【3】Why is creating quiet zones in a car difficult?

D.The temperatures of passengers are changeable.

【4】What might be talked about next?

  • 23、Even at school there had been an unhealthy competition between George and Richard.

“I’ll be the first millionaire in Clifford!” Richard Pike used to say.

“And you’ll sorry you knew me,” George would reply “because I’ll be the best lawyer in town!”

George never did become a lawyer and Richard Pike never made any money. Instead both men opened bookshops on opposite sides of Clifford High Street. It was hard to make money from books, which made the competition between them worse.

Now with only one bookshop in town, business was better for George. But sometimes he sat in his narrow, old kitchen and gazed out of the dirty window, thinking about his former rival(竞争对手). Perhaps he missed him?

George was very interested in old dictionaries. He had recently found a collector in Australia who was selling a rare first edition. When the parcel arrived, the book was in perfect condition and George was delighted. But while he was having lunch, George glanced at the photo in the newspaper that the book had been wrapped in. He was surprised—the smiling face was older than he remembered but unmistakable! Trembling, George started reading.

“Bookends have bought ten bookstores from their rivals Dylan. The company, owned by multi-millionaire Richard Pike, is now the largest bookseller in Australia.”

1What was the relationship between George and Rivhard at school?

    A. Partner   B. Competitors

    C. Roommates   D. Good friends

    A. He envied Richard’s marriage

    B. He was quilty of Richard’s death

    C. He felt lucky with no rival in town

3Where did George get information about Richard?

    A. From the latter’s rivals Dylans

    B. From the wrapping paper of a book

    C. From a rare first edition of a dictionary

    D. From a dictionary collector in Australia

4What happened to George and Richard in the end?

  • 24、   Though not as mainstream as devices like smartphones and fitness trackers, more companies are now experimenting with the concept of connected garments. Among the pioneers is London-based CuteCircuit, which has been creating fashionable smart clothing since 2004. The company’s latest creation is the “Sound Shirt,” which allows deaf people to “feel” live music by transforming the tunes into touch sensations in real time.

The fashionable jacket achieves the incredible function using software that changes the music into data and wirelessly sends it to the 16-micro motors fitted inside the clothing’s fabric. The devices shake in sync (同步) to the intensity (强度) of the music being played, allowing the wearer to feel each instrument individually. The series of touch-like sensations across the wearer’s body enables them to feel the entire works, resulting in a fully amazing musical experience.

To ensure the shirt is comfortable, the designers chose to leave out wires and instead wove conductive textiles (纺织品) into the garment’s fabric. Francesca Rosella, co-founder and chief creative officer of CuteCircuit, explains, “There are no wires inside, so we’re only using smart fabrics — we have a combination of microelectronics and very thin, flexible and conductive fabrics. All these little electronic motors are connected with these conductive fabrics so that the garment is soft and stretchable.”

CuteCircuit, which has been testing the Sound Shirt for three years, expects to make it available to the general public shortly. Priced at $3,673 (3,000 pounds), the smart jacket will not be cheap. However, twin sisters Hermon and Heroda Berhane, who lost their hearing at a young age, believe the hi-tech garment is a worthwhile investment, especially for deaf people with a passion for dancing. “It’s almost like feeling the depth of the music,” says Hermon. “It just feels as though we can move along with it.” Heroda agrees, adding, “I think it could definitely change our lives.”

This is not CuteCircuit’s first groundbreaking smart garment. Over the years, the company has produced hundreds of shocking connected outfits. Among them is an interactive concert dress for American musical artist Nicole Scherzinger that displayed tweets from her fans. Also fun is the HugShirt which enables people to send hugs to loved ones who are not physically in the same area.

1What is “sound shirt” meant for?

    A.Children. B.Students.

    C.Deaf people. D.Travelers.

2Paragraph 2 mainly talks about the sound shirt’s_____________.

    A.By using wires.
