It includes services in three fields: sensing technology, such as image and voice processing, machine learning, and deep learning, an advanced form of machine learning, said Zhang Yaqin, CEO of the Nasdaq-listed company, at the summit.

Developers can access facial or voice recognition, algorithms(演算法) for data analysis and projections, and deep learning applications, Zhang said, adding that the technology could help users innovate in their sectors.

"With more devices connected to the cloud, enterprises will use cloud computing and AI more frequently," said Wu Hequan, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, "Open AI technology can play a bigger role."

  • 22、   The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA)—a study of the test scores of 15-year-olds across 79 countries—showed that students in England performed significantly better in maths than 2015. PISA is conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) every three years, and assesses the performance of 15-year-olds mainly in reading, maths and science.

In England, the Government has prioritized(优先)climbing up the league tables in recent years. The latest tests were carried out last year, and showed that England was ranked 17 in the table for maths, up from 26 in 2015. Pupils in England also outperformed the OECD average in reading and science. On student well-being, 53 percent of 15-year-olds across the UK reported that they are satisfied with their lives—well below the 67 percent average across the OECD.

Taking the UK as a whole, while there was only a statistically significant improvement in maths, the country still improved its position relative to other countries across all three of the subjects tested by PISA. In reading, the UK was 14th, up from 22nd three years ago. In science the UK was 14th, up from 15th, and in maths the UK rose to 18th from 27th.

Across the rest of the league tables, East Asian countries like China and Singapore continued to be far superior. Today’s results also showed that Estonia outperformed all the major European economies.

However, Geoff Barton, the general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, cautioned against concluding too much from the findings. There are many educational and non-educational factors which affect performance and it is not easy to find how these have impacted on young people’s attainment in a set of tests. What is worrying, however, is that this analysis shows that fewer students in the UK are satisfied with their lives than the OECD average. It is clear that many young people feel under great pressure in a society in which the risks often seem very high to them in terms of achieving their goals.

1Which aspect of England is under the average of the OECD?

    A.Reading. B.Science.

    C.Well-being. D.Maths.

2Which statement agrees with the UK’ performance in PISA?

A.The UK did worse than before.

B.The UK progressed a little in PISA.

C.The UK hasn’t made any improvement.

D.The UK pulled well ahead of the rest countries.

3Which of the following countries always holds a leading position in PISA?

    A.China. B.Estonia. C.The UK. D.England.

4What do the Geoff Barton’s words mean in the last paragraph?

A.The PISA results are unbelievable for educators.

B.Students in the UK are in need of more practice.

C.Education quality can’t be fully reflected only by PISA.

D.Young people take more risks of achieving their goals.

  • 23、   In the 1990s, when an area of Brazilian rainforest in Amazon region, the size of Belgium, was cut down every year, Brazil was the world's environmental villain(反派角色). Now, the Amazon ought to be the image of what is going right. Government figures show that deforestation fell by 70% in this region during the past decade. If deforestation had continued at the rate in 2005, an extra 3.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide—equal to a year's emissions from the EU would have been put into the atmosphere. However, Brazil is now the world leader in dealing with climate change.

But how did it break the vicious cycle(恶性循环)? There was no shortcut but a three –stage process including bans, better governance in frontier areas and consumer pressure on companies.

The first stage, from the mid-1990s to 2004, the government put its efforts into bans and restrictions. For example, every farm in the Amazon, had to set 80% of the land aside as a forest reserve. But this share was too high to reach. This was the worst period. Soybean prices were high and a vast expansion of soybean farming expanded on the south-eastern border of the rainforest.

During the second stage, from 2005 to 2009, Brazil's president made stopping deforestation a priority(优先事项), resulting in better co-operation between different bits of the government. The area where farming was banned was increased from a sixth to nearly half of the forest.

The third stage, from 2009, was a test of whether a system of restrictions could survive as soybean expansion continued. The government shifted its focus from farms to counties of each stave. Farmers with me worst deforestation rates were banned from getting cheap credit(贷款)until those rates fell.

Brazil's Amazon policy is a success because it relied on restrictions rather than rewards, which have worked better. Brazil also changed itself into a farming superpower, so the country is possible to get a huge increase in food output without destroying the forest. But now the policies have been successful among commercial farms. Small holders care rather less about the law and respond to market pressures, so the government have to persuade them to change their ways. Deforestation has been slowed, but not yet stopped.

【1】Brazil is considered to play a leading role in dealing with climate change because________.

A.it has rainforest as large as Belgium

B.it has taken action to reduce deforestation

C.it has cut down too much rainforest

D.it sent 3.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the air

【2】According to the text, what are the key factors to slow the deforestation in Brazil?

    A.Bans on deforestation.

B.Joint efforts between different bits of the government.

C.Changing Brazil into a farming superpower.

D.A three-stage process of protecting rainforest.

【3】What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.Small farm holders are a headache for the Brazilian government.

B.All the farmers care much about forest protection.

C.Brazil has successfully got rid of deforestation.

D.Both the food output and the forest in Brazil have greatly increased.

【4】What can be the best title of the passage?

    A.Restrictions Better than Rewards

B.Brazil, the World Leader in Forest

    C.Cutting Down on Cutting Down

    D.Former Awareness Creating Wonders

  • 24、A selection of wildlife sculpture made out of recycled rubbish is being displayed a tan exhibition at the barley gallery in Not ting ham shire, England, until 24 July. The sculptures have been created by Nottinghamshire-based artist Michelle Jones who has been working with recycled materials to over 20 years.

Fly-tipping--illegally dumping rubbish or littering in a public place — was on the increase during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Jones told the BBC, “Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust showed me some of the materials that were found on their nature reserves-a washing machine, rusty bike, car tyres.” She decided to create wildlife sculpture out of these materials to encourage people to think about the damage fly-tipping can do to the environment

and wildlife. Her three-dimensional art works included recycled items such as skis, a gas mask, and washing machine parts.

Jones often draws inspiration from the “beauty of the natural world” and said that the large model of the white-tailed bumblebee(大黄蜂) was inspired by the many hours she spent on her garden during the pandemic. Another sculpture, a bearded vulture(秃鹫 ), was inspired by the sighting of one such bird in the Peak District in July 2020. This was only the second time it had been spotted in the UK.

Using rubbish found in rivers, such as plastic bottles, tennis balls, footwear and toys, Jones created a large wave sculpture to highlight the problem of littering.

Jones says that through her sculptured she draws attention to environmental issue in an attractive and humorous way. Her work has a humour and warmth that makes people smile, making people think twice about what waste is and the value of materials, as well as the impact of over-consumption on the environment and its wildlife.

【1】What is the purpose of this exhibition?

A.To raise money for the wildlife trust.

    B.To blame rubbish dumping.

    C.To promote environmental protection.

    D.To show ways of recycling.

【2】What is the inspiration behind the sculpture displayed at this exhibition?

    A.The problem of illegal littering.

    B.The familiarity with used materials.

C.The beauty of the natural world.

D.The suggestion from a wildlife trust.

【3】Which of the following best described Jones’s works?

    A.Useless but beautiful.

    B.Attractive and natural.

    C.Dirty but enlightening.

    D.Humorous and meaningful.

【4】Which column is this passage probably taken from?

    A.News.

    B.Health.

    C.Entertainment.

    D.Advertisements,
