21、Guests arriving at the Aloft Hotel in Manhattan or one in Silicon Valley will soon be able to do something hotels have dreamed about offering for years: walk past the check-in desk and enter their rooms by using a smartphone as a room key. The boutique hotel brand from Starwood to
Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. plans to offer this feature at two hotels, in the Harlem neighborhood and in Cupertino, Calif, before the end of the quarter.
Starwood officials are hoping this will be one of the biggest technological changes in the industry since free Wi-Fi. "We believe this will become the new standard for how people will want to enter a hotel." says Frits van Passchen, Starwood's CEO. "It may be a novelty at first, but we think it will become table stakes for managing a hotel.
Not everyone is so sure. Past attempts to use technology to streamline the check-in process have had mixed results. Robert Habeeb, president of the First Hospitality Group, which is the owner of 55 hotels in the U.S, says he pulled out check-in kiosks at two of his Holiday Inn hotels after finding that most guests ignored them. He found that many travelers will sacrifice speed or ease to talk with a staff member and ensure their room has the right view or location, or to try for an upgrade. Other guests may still want to be greeted when they arrive.
Hotels have never been known for being in the forefront of technology. The industry is often a delay, in part because many hotels are owned and managed by separate companies, making investments in technology more complicated. Nevertheless, many hotel operators have been searching for ways to remove the bottlenecks that can form at a hotel's front desk. The delays are the bane(祸根)of many a road warrior's travel experience. “Everybody has to check in, but we are all doing it pretty much the same way we were 100 years ago, ”says Christopher Nassetta, chief executive officer for Hilton Worldwide holdings Inc.”It' s something we are seriously addressing.
Yet it is still not clear that virtual keys will do better than previous attempts to beat traditional check-ins. An effort several years ago to allow guests to enter rooms with the magnetic strip on their credit cards never became popular . Guests worried about security and were unwilling to give their kids credit cards instead of room keys.

22、 Traffic Light Reading is one of students’ favorites! And it’s so simple. Here’s what to do: Take three pens in different colors, most suitably red, orange and green. But it’s not too important as long as teachers and students are both clear on the colour code they’re going to use.
Students read a text, not worrying too much about how much they understand. Teachers can ask them to re-read when students are paying attention to vocabulary. Start by underlining the words that they understand completely (including names, numbers etc) in green.
Then students re-read the text and underline the words that look familiar, they maybe know them but aren’t too sure about them. You guessed it: in orange.
Finally, students read the text a third time underlining the words they clearly don’t understand in red. Sometimes teachers might want to set students a limit for how many red words they underline, telling them only to underline the words that they believe are seriously blocking their understanding of the text as a whole. Generally, however, students are pleasantly surprised by how few words are red and how many are green. Seeing their ability laid out in a visual way really helps to increase confidence.
Once the whole text is underlined, teachers can give students a limit of 5, 10 or 15 words, depending on the length of the text, and tell them they’re only allowed to look these words up in a dictionary. This helps them to recognize words that are actually getting in the way of their understanding of the text and words that they don’t know but actually don’t impact their whole understanding of the text.
This is a useful activity that can be done with a printed text, in a Google Doc, on RealtimeBoard, or set as a homework task for some independent study.

23、When 12-year-old Taylor Smith wrote a special letter to herself last spring, to be read in 10 years’ time, she didn’t know it would be opened before even a year had passed— and that it wouldn’t be her eyes reading the words.
“She had told me that she had written a letter to herself, and that she was excited that she was going to open it when she was older,”said Taylor’s mother, Mary Ellen Smith.
Instead, it was opened by Taylor’s parents after she died last spring. They posted the letter to Facebook, hoping it would inspire others.
It has. “We’ve gotten letters from lots of parents who have said it has encouraged them to love their kids and love each other,” said Mary Ellen Smith.
In the letter, Taylor congratulated herself on graduating from high school and asked, “Are you in college?”
She also wanted to know if she had been on a plane yet and if the show “Doctor Who” was still on the air.
Taylor also had some words for her future kids. After considering the idea of selling her iPad and getting an iPad mini instead, she told her future self to mention to her kids that “We’re older than the tablet.” She included a drawing of an iPad for them to see.
Taylor died suddenly of pneumonia (肺炎), leaving behind both her parents and an older brother.
“I just want people to know just what an awesome, awesome person she was,” her father, Tim Smith said.
Her mother said, “I can’t bring her back, but I’m so grateful people have been inspired by her story.”
Taylor’s father read the closing g words of her letter, which said, “It’s been years since I wrote this. Stuff has happened, good and bad. That’s just how life works, and you have to go with it.”

24、I was excited about having a third child, but worried about the first year. A friend of mine who's a filmmaker said, "Why don't you just photograph the whole thing?" So I had one holder for the camera over the changing table and another where I nursed. I wasn't sure that anything would ever come out of it. I had not even looked at the photographs until a couple of months ago. They just seemed so quotidian that I couldn't imagine that they would be interesting at all. Time can turn photographs into metaphor or allow them to become a symbol instead of a documentary picture.
At the particular moment of having a newborn, mothers' needs are on the minds of the country. However, motherload is about what mothers don't show: the emotions and psychological states that we've all been socialized to bury. It's not so much about my personal existence as it is about the blurred(模糊的)existence, all that time spent keeping something alive.
Having a newborn is a very ugly, untidy time of life. I felt out of the picture. I felt very stressed and very needed, but also very invisible. The images get at that unreal quality of not feeling like a whole person. I'm not really in focus, because my brain isn't in focus either.
I can't tell you how many times I've checked an artist's biography to see, Oh God, she's so great, but does she have children? Like, are we in the same race? Because it's like running with weights on. But when I look at the pictures, I feel like a survivor.
【1】The author documented the months following the birth of her third child because_________.
A.she felt the period very terrible
B.she favored her third child most
C.she was encouraged by her friend

【2】What does the underlined word "quotidian" in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Fantastic.
B.Ordinary.
C.Reliable.
D.Familiar.
【3】What does the author think of motherload?
A.Mothers prefer to socialize with others nearby.
B.Mothers attempt to uncover their mental states.
C.Mothers tend to have their own sense of existence ignored.
D.Mothers enjoy the sweet burden of keeping something alive.
【4】Why does the author mention a great artist in the last paragraph?
A.Because she wants to show how weak she is.
B.Because she finds it good to have no children.
C.Because she loves reading the artist's biography.
D.Because she feels it hard to shoulder the motherload.
