二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、About twenty of us had been fortunate enough to receive invitations to a filmstudio (影棚) to take part in a crowdscene. Although our “act” would last only for a short time,we could see quite a number of interesting things.

We all stood at the far end of the studio as workmen prepared the scene, setting up trees at the edge of a winding path. Very soon, bright lights were turned on and the big moviecamera was wheeled into position. The director shouted something to the camera operator and then went to speak to the two famous actors nearby. Since it was hot in the studio, it came as a surprise to us to see one of the actors put on a heavy overcoat and start walking along the path. A big fan began blowing tiny white feathers down on him, and soon the trees were covered in “snow”. Two more fans were turned on, and a “strong wind” blew through the trees. The picture looked so real that it made us feel cold.

The next scene was a complete contrast (对比). The way it was filmed was quite unusual. Pictures taken on an island in the Pacific were shown on a glass screen (幕). An actor and actress stood in front of the scene so that they looked as if they were at the water's edge on an island. By a simple trick like this, palm trees, sandy beaches, and blue, clear skies had been brought into the studio!

Since it was our turn next, we were left wondering what scene would be prepared for us. For a full three_minutes in our lives we would be experiencing the excitement of being film “stars”!

    【1】Who is the author?

    A.A cameraman.

    B.A film director.

    C.A crowdscene actor.

    D.A workman for scene setting.

【2】What made the author feel cold?

    A.The heavy snowfall.

    B.The manmade scene.

    C.The low temperature.

    D.The film being shown.

【3】What would happen in the “three minutes” mentioned in the last paragraph?

A.A new scene would be filmed.

B.More stars would act in the film.

C.The author would leave the studio.

D.The next scene would be prepared.

  • 22、Red pandas are native to the high forests of Asia. They are only a little bigger than a house cat and considered to be endangered. Scientists reported last month that not all red pandas belong to the same species. There are two different species of this animal, not just one, a study found.

The scientists reported finding major differences in three genetic markers between Chinese red pandas and Himalayan red pandas. Scientists identified the markers after studying DNA from 65 of the creatures. DNA carries genetic information for the development, growth and reproduction of living things.

Recording the existence of two separate species could help guide efforts for protecting red pandas, scientists added. “Chinese red pandas live in northern Myanmar, as well as southeastern Tibet, Sichuan, and Yunnan provinces in China. Himalayan red pandas are native to Nepal, India, Bhutan and southern Tibet in China,” the researchers said.

Researchers Yibo Hu and Fuwen Wei led the study. Their findings appeared in the magazine Science Advances.

Scientists had earlier suggested there were two species of red panda. But the new study was the first to provide the genetic information necessary to allow such a judgment. International experts guess a total population of around 10,000 red pandas in the wild. The two species differ in color and skull shape. The Himalayan red panda is the less of the two.

Major threat stored pandas include deforestation and habitat loss. While they have similar names, red pandas and giant pandas are not closely related. Giant pandas are one of the world’s eight bear species. Red pandas are sometimes called living fossils because they have no close living relatives. They are the only remaining member of their mammalian family.

【1】What played a key role in telling the two kinds of red pandas apart?

    A.Life habits.

    B.Body sizes.

    C.Living places.

    D.High technology.

【2】What do we know about the research result?

    A.It proved a nearly guess.

B.It figured out the number of red pandas.

C.It found two similar species of red panda.

D.It proved one species of red pandas was endangered.

【3】What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A.The red panda’s habitat needs changing.

B.Red pandas and pandas have little in common.

C.Red pandas are one of the world’s bear species.

D.Red pandas are less than pandas in number.

【4】What can be the best title for the text?

A.Red Pandas Are Mistaken for Giant Pandas

    B.Red Pandas Are Becoming Endangered

C.Red Pandas Have Actually Two Different Species

D.Red Pandas Are More Precious than Giant Pandas

  • 23、   Most people feel lonely sometimes, but it usually lasts only between a few minutes and a few hours. This kind of loneliness is not serious. In fact, it is quite normal. For some people, though, loneliness can last for years. Now researchers say there are three different types of loneliness.

The first kind of loneliness is temporary. This is the most common type. It usually disappears quickly and does not require any special attention. The second kind, situational loneliness, is a natural result of a particular situationfor example, the death of a loved one, or moving to a new place. Although this kind of loneliness can cause physical problems, such as headaches and sleeplessness, it usually does not last for more than a year.

The third kind of loneliness is the most severe. Unlike the second type, chronic(长期的) loneliness usually lasts more than two years and has no specific cause. People who experience habitual loneliness have problem socializing and becoming close to others unfortunately, many chronically lonely people think there is little or nothing they can do to improve their condition.

Many researchers agree that the loneliest people are between the ages 18 and 25, so a group of psychologists decided to study a group of college students. They found that more than 50% of the students were situationally lonely at the beginning of the term as a result of their new circumstances, but had adjusted after a few months, 13% were still lonely after seven months due to shyness and fear. They felt very uncomfortable meeting strangers, even though they understood that their fear was not reasonable. The situationally lonely students overcame their loneliness by making new friends, but the chronically lonely remained unhappy because they were afraid to do so.

Psychologists are trying to find ways to help habitually lonely people for two reasons: they are unhappy and unable to socialize and there is a connection between chronic loneliness and serious illness such as heart disease. While temporary and situational loneliness can be a normal, healthy part of life, chronic loneliness can be a very sad, and sometimes dangerous condition.

1How would you treat temporary loneliness according to the passage?

    A. Talk to friends. B. Go to see a doctor.

    C. Just ignore it. D. Ask your teacher for guidance.

2In the last sentence of the second paragraph, “it” refers to _______.

    A. temporary loneliness B. sleeplessness

    C. a new place D. situational loneliness

3All of the following are true EXCEPT that ________.

    A. situational loneliness can cause physical problems

    B. temporary loneliness does not need special attention

    C. chronic loneliness can cause problems in socializing

    D. 37% of the students can overcome loneliness easily

4Where can we probably read the passage?

    A. Comic books. B. A novel.

    C. A magazine. D. A diary.

  • 24、   We know that reading is good for children. Now, a new study suggests that just being around books has its benefits. A team of researchers in Australia finds that growing up with a large library at home improves literacy( 读写能力) ,number-sense , and even technological skills in later life. It appeared in the journal Social Science Research.

The researchers were exploring the advantages of scholarly culture. They were interested in a curious observation that some call the “radiation effect".“Radiation effect is a situation where children grow up around books , but they don't read books. But somehow books benefit them, even though they don't read them as much as their parents wish them to,” said Joanna Sikora , a sociologist in Australia. Joanna and her colleagues analyzed data collected between 2011 and 2015 by the Organization for Economic Development. The survey assessed the literacynumeracy(计算能力) , and technological competency of more than 160 , 000 adults from 31 countries. And it included a question about how many books participants had in their homes during adolescence.“What we were able to make clear was that people growing up around books had better literacy , numeracy and digital problem-solving skills than people who had fewer books growing up but had similar education levels , similar jobs and even similar adult habits in terms of reading or working at various numeracy-improving activities," she said.

In fact , teens who only made it through high school but were raised in a bookish environment did as well in adulthood as college graduates who grew up in a house without books. Now , how might mere exposure lead to intellectual improvement?“If we grow up in a house , in a home where parents enjoy books , where books are given as birthday presents and valued , this is something that becomes a part of our identity and gives us this lifelong urge to always come close to books and read more than we would.”

So keep shelves piled with books. Your kids will not only be grateful, they'll be more likely to be able to spell “grateful" correctly as well.

1What's “radiation effect" according to the text?

A.The terrible effect of radiation on the persons and things.

B.The good influence of the bookish environment on adolescents.

C.The beneficial effect of reading books on adolescents.

D.The bad effect of the environment without books on adolescents.

2How does the exposure to books improve intellect?

A.Books bring a sense of identity and eagerness to read more.

B.Books help to provide a chance to come close to society,

C.Books are always given to adolescents as valuable presents.

D.Books will offer the teens an urge to make great achievements.

3What's the author's attitude towards bookish environment?

    A.Opposed. B.Neutral.

    C.Indifferent. D.Supportive.

4What's the best title for the text?

A.Reading More Helps Improve Children's Abilities

B.Reading at Home Brings Children Many Advantages

C.Growing Up Around Books Benefits Children a Lot

D.Creating a Bookish Environment for Children Is of Much Importance

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面短文, 根据所给情节进行续写, 使之构成一个完整的故事。

As he lay awake that night, Tony could hear his parents discussing his sister Alice's birthday. It was just two days away. Birthdays were always a lot of fun, even though there was no money for store-bought gifts. Nearly all of toys he and his sister had were homemade. There was nothing wrong with that, he knew. Like many families in this part, they were poor.

This birthday would be different, though. Alice was older now, and he'd seen how her eyes lit up when she saw the new doll at Honey House, neighborhood store just down the road from their house.

How he longed for her to have it! An idea finally came to him just before he went to bed. After a quick breakfast the following morning, he placed a tin can and a piece of string in a large bag. Then he tied the bag to the handlebars of his bike and headed toward a village hill.

After a long journey, he reached his destination, the mango forest. There were already two other boys there. Tony grabbed his bag and set to work immediately. The smaller trees had already been picked over pretty well, but he was able to find a half-dozen mangos before noon.

When the sun was high overhead, the hard work began. Nearly all of the taller trees held ripe mangoes but they were well beyond reach. The other boys took their fruit and went away. Tony used his pocket knife to cut a long piece of bamboo. Then he took the tin can from the bag, tied it to one end of the bamboo stick, and walked over to the base of mango tree.

He stayed there, holding the tin can high up into the tree. His efforts were occasionally rewarded when a mango dropped into the can. After a while his neck ached from looking upward, and his arms grew sore. He kept at it,though, and by late afternoon his bag was nearly full.

    注意;

    1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

    2. 应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;
