24、
Everyone knows that it’s hard to drink in space because of the low gravity, but Chinese astronauts Jing Haipeng and Chen Dong showed us how they drank tea on a TV show during the month-long trip in Shenzhou XI spaceship last year. They used a specially made tea cup and a special Pu’er cream to drink tea while standing upside down.
The Pu’er tea cream they drank is produced in Yunnan province, which is known for its Pu’er tea industry.
“Drinking hot tea is harder,” said Jing Haipeng. “The difficult part of drinking tea in space is that there should not be anything left after the tea dissolves (溶解) in water, also, the solubility(溶解度)of the tea should be low since water in space can only be warmed to 60 degrees at most.”
The tea cream the astronauts drank is produced by Gongrunxiang Tea Industry Corp in Kunming. Zhang Guanghui, manager of Gongrunxiang, said that the company tries to produce a tea cream that’s a safe, healthy tea product. Tea products are often reported to be polluted by air and heavy metals. “I never imagined that one day our tea cream would help astronauts to drink tea in space,” Zhang said, adding that drinking tea in space can be seen as a turning point for the Pu’er tea industry.
“For us, astronauts’ drinking tea in space means our technology used in the tea industry has had some achievements,” Zhang said. “In the future, more tea producers will use it to improve the tea industry.”
【1】What can we learn from the passage?
A. Astronauts are able to enjoy many kinds of tea in space.
B. The tea cream is reported to be polluted by air and heavy metals.
C. The astronauts showed how they drank tea after returning to the earth.
D. The technology used in the tea industry may help the astronauts drink tea.
【2】Which is NOT the reason why it’s difficult for the astronauts to drink hot tea in space?
A. Drinking is very hard in the low-gravity situation.
B. The solubility of the tea should remain the same.
C. They have to use a kind of specially made tea cup.
D. There should be nothing left after the tea dissolves in water.
【3】Why does Zhang consider drinking tea in space is a turning point for the Pu’er tea industry?
A. He thinks it might help astronauts in space.
B. He thinks it might make Pu’er tea dissolve easily.
C. He thinks it might help improve the production of Pu’er tea.
D. He thinks it might help improve the tea industry and make Pu’er tea popular.
25、 Reading is the key to school success, and it takes practice. An excellent sportsman practises until he can play quickly, correctly and without thinking. Educators(教育家) call it “automaticity(自动性)”. And the automaticity in reading is necessary and important.
A child learns to read by learning the letters and the meanings of the words. With more and more practice, he stumbles less and less. With automaticity, he doesn’t have to think about the meanings of the words, so that he can give all his attention to the meaning of the text.
It can begin as early as the first grade. In a recent study, Alan Rossman of Northwestern University found that automatic readers in the first grade not only read almost three times as fast as the others, but also got better results in exams.
According to Rossman, the key to automaticity is the amount of time that a child spends in reading, not his IQ. It is possible that any child who spends at least 3.5 to 4 hours a week reading books will reach automaticity. It can happen if a child turns off TV just one night and reads at home.
You can test yourself by reading something new which is suitable for your level. If you read aloud with expressions, with a sense of the meanings of the sentences, you probably are an automatic reader. If you read brokenly, one word at a time, without expressions or meanings, you need more practice.

26、I decided at 10 that I was going to be a teacher because I had a burning desire for superpowers. As a boy, I could clearly see some of my teachers had extraordinary powers.
There was an English teacher in fifth grade who could magically transport us to different worlds every day by telling us stories and reading to us from books we would otherwise never pick up. This was our secret and fun time because fifth graders were considered too old to have stories read out to them.
It was even shocking that my teacher could see the invisible. I was one of those who lacked insight. Yet my teacher would notice me and the unspoken message in her eyes suggested that she could see me through. She had another superpower and even after four decades. I could still vividly remember her lessons about the great masters of art and great geographers, expanding our horizons. She did this even though her major was not art, nor geography. Her lessons went beyond the textbook. I knew I wanted to be one of those all-seeing ones with superpowers that made children feel safe and valued.
I know being a teacher isn’t the easiest or the most financially rewarding of jobs. And there are occupational risks-your knees can become worn out from years of carrying piles of notebooks up and down the school staircase, your voice can give in from too much talking. But despite all that, there are those choosing this cause. To them, teaching is not just a job-it is a science, an art and a craft, and it demands emotional labour and investment.
All my life, for three decades now, I’ve gone to work early each day with a spring in my step. Occasionally, I meet my former students. Their obvious love for me and fond memories of our time together are my rewards. When I meet others who thirst for superpowers, like the brand new teacher struggling to perfect her skills with a brave face on, or the one in a remote, rural school travelling 70 kilometers each day just for his pupils, I feel proud to belong to the same group.

27、 Are you preparing a big test? If so, you may want to go play some basketball in between hitting the book. Doctors are starting to find more and more information that suggests a connection between exercise and brain development. Judy Cameron, a scientist at Oregon Health and Science University, studies brain development. According to her research, it seems that exercise can make blood vessels, including those in the brain stronger and more fully developed. Dr. Cameron is sure that this allows people who exercise to think better. As she says, “while we already know that exercise is good for the heart, exercise can actually cause physical changes in the brain.”
The effects of exercise on brain development can even be seen in babies. Babies who do activities that require a lot of movement and physical activity show greater brain development than babies who are less physically active. Even a little movement can show big results. Margaret Barnes, a scientist, also believes in the importance of exercise. She thinks that many learning disabilities that children have in primary school or high school can be traced back to a lack of movement as babies. “Babies need movement that encourages and excites their five senses. They need to set up a connection between motion and memory. In this way, as they get older, children will begin to connect physical activity with higher learning,” says Margaret.
Older people can develop their brains as well. Cornell University studied a group of seniors who have a short-term memory increase of up to 40 percent after exercising just three hours a week. The exercise does not have to be very difficult but it does have to increase the heart rate. Also, just like the motion for babies, exercise for older people should not be simple. Learning some new skills or actions, such as yoga or tai-chi, helps to open up memory paths in the brain that may not have been used for a long time. For most people, any type of physical activity that increases the heart rate is helpful. The main aim is to increase the brain’s flow of blood. And your brain can benefit from as little as two to three hours of exercise a week.
【1】According to the passage, what is the connection between exercise and brain development?
A.Exercise helps make our blood vessels. B.Physical exercise helps us think better. C.The brain needs special mental exercise. D.The more exercise, the bigger brain.

A.How exercise makes people strong. B.How to get good scores on a test. C.How exercise helps the brain. D.How the brain can change.
