21、The American Academy of Pediatrics has warned about the potential negative effects of social media on young kids and teens. But the same risks may be true for adults. A review study suggests addiction symptoms (症状), such as failure to pay attention to personal life and escapism, appear to be present in some people who use Facebook excessively (过度).
A study also shows when people stop using the Internet, they also go through small but measurable physical effects. Rather than improving health, as frequent interactions (互动) with offline social networks do, the findings show that interacting with Facebook may predict the opposite result for young adults—it may undermine it.
In fact, another study found that social media use is linked to greater feelings of social isolation (隔离), mentally and physically. We fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others as we check our Facebook pages. The study looked at how we make comparisons with others’ posts, in “upward” or “downward” directions—that is, feeling that we are either worse or better off than our friends. It turned out that both types of comparisons made people feel worse, which is surprising, since in real life, only upward comparisons make people feel bad. But in the social network world, it seems that any kind of comparison is linked to depressive symptoms.
All of this is not to say that there is no benefit of social media—obviously it keeps us connected across great distances, and helps us find people we had lost touch with years ago. But visiting social networks when you have some time to kill is very likely a bad idea. If you are feeling brave, try taking a little break, and see how it goes. And if you are going to keep “using” it, then at least try to use it reasonably.
【1】What might researchers think about “using Facebook excessively”?

D.Downward comparisons link closer to depression than upward ones.
【4】What is the main idea of the text?
A.Social media affect people’s mental health.
B.Comparing ourselves with others may lead to depression.

D.Nowadays people tend to turn to the Internet for satisfaction.
22、Drama in education has been an effective teaching and learning tool from ancient Greek times to the present day. “Tell me and I will forget,” the Confucian (儒家的) proverb goes, “Show me and I will remember. Involve me and I will understand.”
At primary level, drama is a good way of learning feelings, knowledge and ideas, and in examining relationships, which will help students understand the world.
The primary teacher should try to improve the child’s ability of make-believe (a state of pretending that something is real) and use it into other areas of knowledge. So creating drama is a more important performance, exploring life through the creation of fiction rather than developing a piece of work for performance. The results include the development of social, personal and drama skills. The way in which the child acquires knowledge through drama is as important as the knowledge itself.
Dympna Byrne, a primary teacher, uses drama in every subject she teaches. “A lot of the focus in primary education is to encourage children to be active in their own learning, and drama is a brilliant tool for that,” she says. Byrne says the benefits of drama as a teaching tool can be easily found in subjects such as English (It helps with writing.) or history (It can bring old things to life.), but it is the way in which this type of learning emerges (呈现) that is the most important. She says, “Through competitions and performances, we can make students interested in drama outside the classroom, because what really excites students about drama is that it is fun.”
【1】By using the Confucian proverb, the writer wants to show drama is ____.
A.ancient
B.different
C.useful
D.modern
【2】What benefits will drama bring to the students?
A.It will bring more feelings to all the students.
B.It will help the students have many more ideas.
C.It will give the students many kinds of feelings.
D.It will show the students what the world is like.
【3】What does the underlined word “it” in the third paragraph refer to?
A.The teacher who works in a school.
B.The child’s ability of make-believe.
C.The knowledge in different areas.
D.A piece of work for performance.
【4】According to Byrne, what is the most important in learning?
A.How students learn knowledge.
B.What knowledge students should learn.
C.Which subject can help students with their writing.
D.When students should study old things.
23、Land of fire and ice: Iceland
Join an unforgettable tour of Iceland’s splendid landscapes, timed to arrange four days filled with volcanic and geological adventure, and evening opportunities to see the Aurora Borealis.
Day 1: Vatnajokull Glacier (冰川)
Today you’ll take a walk on Europe’s biggest ice cap-Vatnajokull-which has around 30 glaciers flowing out from it. No experience is necessary to take part in the hike. It’s discouraging to think that the glacier is retreating due to rising world temperatures, and in future years the glacier may be gone. If you prefer a relaxing morning you can explore the surroundings of the farm stay and head to the Thorbergur Centre.
Day 2: Secret lagoon (泻湖) and Reykjavik
This morning we make our way to the Lava Centre which is an interactive, high-tech educational exhibition describing volcanic activity, earthquakes and the creation of Iceland over millions of years. After our visit, we will continue to the Secret Lagoon natural hot springs, located in the small village called Fludir, giving you the opportunity to relax in the warm waters before travelling to Reykjavik.
Day 3: Reykjanes peninsula (半岛)
Head out to the Reykjanes Peninsula. It is a land-born, highly volcanic counterpart of the Mid-Atlantic Spreading Ridge where two tectonic plates part at an average rate of 2.0-2.5 cm/yr. Four volcanic systems and fissure (裂缝) groups line the peninsula from SW to NE. They contain open fissures, normal faults, high-temperature fields and volcanic fissures.
Day 4: Depart Reykjavik
Today is departure day and time to say “sjaumst”. Your group departure transfer will take you to the airport for your flight home.
【1】Which of the following may make you feel worried?
A.Taking part in the hike.
B.The future of the glacier.
C.Walking on Europe’s biggest ice cap.

【2】What may visitors do at the end of the second day?
A.Go to the Lava Centre. B.Visit natural hot springs.
C.Take a bath in hot springs. D.Stay the night in the small village.
【3】On which day can you see two moving plates?
A.Day 1. B.Day 2.

24、People express their personalities in their clothes, their cars, and their homes. Because we might choose certain foods to 'tell' people something about us, our diets can also be an expression of our personalities. For example, some people eat mainly gourmet foods, such as caviar (鱼子酱) and lobster (龙虾), and they eat only in expensive restaurants. 【1】
Human beings can eat many different kinds of foods, but some people choose not to eat meat. 【2】Their personalities might be similar too. For example, vegetarians in the United States and Canada may be creative people, and they might not enjoy competitive sports or jobs. They worry about the health of the world, and they are probably strongly opposed to war.
【3】 One study shows that many fast food eaters have a lot in common with one another, but they are very different from vegetarians. They are competitive and good at business. 【4】 Many fast food eaters might not agree with this description of their personalities, but it is common picture of them.
Some people also believe that people of the same astrological sign (星座) have similar food personalities. Aries (born under the sign of Aries, between March 21 and April 20) usually like spicy foods, with a lot of onions and pepper. People with the sign of Taurus (April 21 to May 22) prefer healthful fruits and vegetables, but they often eat too much. 【5】 Aquarius (January 21 to February 19) can eat as much meat and fish as they want, but sugar and cholesterol (胆固醇) are sometimes problems for them.
A.They are also usually in a hurry.
B.Some people eat mostly fast food.
C.They know about the “better things in life”.
D.Vegetarians often have more in common than just their diet.
E.People's personalities have something to do with their parents.
F.Many people avoid alcohol, which makes the body lose too much water.
G.Sagittarius (November 22 to December 22) like ethnic foods from many different countries.
