二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   After exactly a year of staying at home, we have adapted to socializing digitally, in short bursts of time.Remember in Before Times you could head to the gym after work and then get dressed for dinner and a night out? The pandemic(疫情) has changed this. Our social batteries have run out of charge. It's been a long time since we had to perform our social role for an extended period.

For 23-year-old Hafsa, the excitement of her friends and family to restart their social lives has left her astonished. “ At the minute my parents are planning a trip abroad and I keep postponing getting back to them with a date,” she explains. “They don't know it's because of all of this. Just the thought of being in a room full of people is scary, it's like going back to school.”

Heather Garbutt, psychotherapist of the Counselling & Psychotherapy Centre says communication is key to recharging your unused social battery. “Take it slowly and don't immediately organize a large get-together,” she advises. “Go for a walk with somebody for no more than half an hour and gently get used to being with people again. It may actually be a shock to our system which has been shut down to some degree to cope with absence. We may have that longing to be with others, but that doesn't mean we are free from anxiety. It would be good to start off with a conversation about what it's going to be like when you are all together again.”

She says finding some causal topics to discuss also works. Acknowledge that many of you may feel a bit awkward after being physically apart for so long. It's a bit like learning to walk again after you've broken a limb. It may all be off-balance to begin with but you will find a new steadiness with practice. Whatever happens post-pandemic, your loved ones can't judge if you want to take it easy and not engage in the festivities immediately. We are recovering from a post-pandemic stress disorder, after all.

  • 22、Tourism wasn’t as important as it is today. In the past, only people with a good deal of money could travel on holidays to other countries. More people travel today than in the past because there is a growing middle class in many parts of the world; that is to say, people now have more money for travel. Special plane fares for tourists make travel less expensive and more attractive than ever before. One person doesn’t travel for the same reason as another. But most people enjoy seeing countries that are different from their own. They also like to meet new people and to taste new food.

Tourism causes many changes in a country and in people’s lives. People build new hotels and restaurants and train native men and women as guides to show visitors interesting places. There’re new nightclubs and other amusements. International tourism is clearly a big business.

  • 23、Frustrated by an increase in wild boar(野猪) attacks, officials in Hong Kong used bread to attract and trap some of the animals in a district close to the city, Press reported. Wild boars can be seen frequently along Hong Kong’s hiking trails. People often refuse to obey orders from authorities to stop feeding them because they can gather in large groups and pass along diseases. Attacks by wild boars have also become an increasingly common issue. In an attack last week, a wild boar knocked down a police officer and bit his leg last week before the animal fell from a residential car park and died.

Government data indicates that there are roughly 3,000 wild boars in Hong Kong. They are not a protected species. Though Hong Kong authorities have attempted to naturally cut down the boar population, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said it “could not effectively control the wild pig disturbance.” “A large group of wild pigs continued to wander and gather at the site, posing threats to members of the public and road users,” a statement from the department read.

Since the attack on the police officer, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam has cautioned that the city could impose more severe punishment against people who continue to feed the boars. “I understand that a lot of Hong Kong people love the wetlands and nature. However, we also need to protect public safety. We can’t simply sit on our hands while things worsen,” she added.

Philanthropic group ADM Capital Foundation, the Hong Kong Veterinary Association and other animal rights organizations have since sent an open letter to the government criticizing its shift in policy to kill the boars. A request by groups including Hong Kong Animal Post and Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group said that the measures announced by the agriculture department to regularly capture and put down wild boars “ignore their right to live. This approach is extremely unreasonable and contradicts previous animal management policy principles.”

Hong Kong needs legislative reform to deal with the current gaps in existing laws, so that wildlife feeding is an illegal activity, punishment is severe and can be enforced effectively.

【1】What do you know about the wild boars in Hong Kong?

A.They do not hurt human beings unless they are attacked.

B.They are endangered species with a very small population.

C.If gathering in groups it is easy for them to spread diseases.

D.They are seen frequently close to the city’s financial center.

【2】What does the underlined phrase “sit on our hands” mean in paragraph 3?

    A.Keep cautious.

    B.See before acting.

    C.Take immediate actions.

    D.Look on indifferently.

【3】What is the attitude of some animal rights organizations towards killing the boars?

    A.Neutral.

    B.Worried

    C.Favorable.

    D.Disapproval.

【4】What may be the most reasonable measure to take based on the whole text?

A.Making severe laws to ban wildlife feeding.

B.Naturally cutting down the boar population.

C.Regularly capturing and putting down wild boars.

D.Calling on citizens to keep distance from wild boars.

  • 24、Chinese people love food made of flour, whether it be dumplings, or flatbread. In the hands of skilled artisans (手艺人), flour is made into lovely models of people or animals to be enjoyed and played with, which brings a unique kind of pleasure. This art form is called dough figurine (面塑). Among the various art styles of dough figurines, Beijing’s Dough Figurine Lang is a unique folk art, which is filled with the rich history and customs of the capital city. Their delicate and lovely handicrafts are storytellers of old and new Beijing. In 2008, it was included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage.

It was created by Lang Shao’an. Most of the dough figurines are animals and characters from legends, historical stories, and local operas. The finished product is either put at the end of a thin stick, or on a table for display. Some are mostly for children to eat or play with, with simple forms and vivid decorations, while some are delicate pieces of artwork for display only. For this reason, during the making process, they are often mixed with additives (添加剂) to prevent them from breaking up, being eaten by insects or growing moldy. Over the course of his long career, Lang Shao’an developed a set of skilled fingers with an elegant artistic sense.

Like most of the other intangible cultural heritage handicrafts in China, Dough Figurine Lang does not get as much attention from the public. Many young people are unwilling to take the time to master a skill that does not make money, which has led to a decline in the number of those who are devoted to the handicraft. Good handicrafts need the devotion of artisans from one generation to another.

【1】What is special about Dough Figurine Lang?

    A.It reflects Beijing’s culture.

B.It is created by many famous artists.

C.It shows people’s lifestyles and beliefs.

D.It is popular with both tourists and the locals.

【2】Why do artisans add additives to dough figurine products?

A.To make dough figurines taste good.

B.To keep colors brighter and last longer.

C.To help shape dough into various forms.

D.To better preserve the finished products.

【3】What is the main purpose of the passage?

A.To call on people to master a skill.

B.To appeal to people to value this folk art.

C.To teach people ways to appreciate the handicraft.

D.To persuade people to buy dough figurine products.
