25、A special Boeing 777 Freighter provided by FedEx was taking the panda, Bei Bei, and the two of the zoo’s staff members – a panda keeper and a doctor—nonstop from Washington to Chengdu.
During the trip, he was provided with a supply of his treats including bamboo, apples, pears, carrots, cooked sweet potatoes.
Before he left Washington, thousands of people joined ‘Bye Bye, Bei Bei’. During the activity, many people were sad for Bei Bei’s leaving. They hoped he would love his new home in China, and they hoped to visit him there some day.
Su, Bei Bei’s new keeper in China, who majored in animal medicine at Jilin Agricultural Science and Technology University, has worked at the base since she completed her university in 2016. “I feel very nervous when I receive the task because Bei Bei has received a lot of attention. But I think I can do well as I had a lot of experience in panda management,” Su said. “I have taken care of about10 pandas before.”
Su said she had prepared a lot for his arrival. She has planned to spend two weeks allowing Bei Bei to get to know her voice. She will also train him how to stand and sit. “Pandas like sweet food. Bei Bei has been rewarded with sugarcane after cooperating in a physical checkup, for example, after he has placed one leg on equipment to enable blood to be drawn,” Su said. “Instead of sugarcane, we will feed Bei Bei with honey as a reward,” she added.
Her daily routine includes cleaning his den and feeding the panda four times during the daytime. At night, Bei Bei may wake two or three times to eat and then fall asleep, so Su will set up an app on her phone to monitor him.
Pandas are native to Chengdu. So we believe that Bei Bei will get used to living here quickly.

26、 There are lots of great watery wonders in the world, but some are disappearing.
The Dead Sea
At 430 meters below sea level, the Dead Sea is Earth's lowest point on land. It is popular for its wonderful buoyancy*. The high salt content makes swimming more like floating.
Now the Dead Sea is actually dying. People are using water from the Jordan River, which takes water away from the Dead Sea. Since 1930, its surfing area has reduced by almost 40 percent.
Venice, Italy
With waterways instead of streets. This "Floating City" has attracted visitors for centuries. But no visit to Venice is complete without a ride on one of its famous gondolas, human powered water taxis. Water creates Venice. But water will also kill the city.
Built on soft earth, Venice has slowly been sinking for centuries. Now, with
rising sea levels caused by human activities, it's sinking faster. The city may disappear in the next 100 years.
Great Barrier Reef
Covering more than 2,300 kilometers of Australia's northeast coast, Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest reef ecosystem, and an ideal place for scuba divers*. Thousands of colorful coral and fish make homes in the blue sea water. It's like a big underwater party!
Sadly, the party might be over soon. The reef is dying. Human activities are
changing the weather. Warming ocean water kills the coral, and this causes problems up the food chain. The reef system might be gone by 2030.

27、Here’s a story from an old man who lived 900 years ago.
“When I was young, I wanted to change the world. But I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my country. When I found I couldn’t change the country, I began to focus on my hometown. I couldn’t change the hometown and as an old man, I tried to change my family.
“Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could made an impact(影响)on my family. My family and I could have have an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the country and I could indeed have changed the world. In fact, relaxing can make your mind a break, stop worrying so much about your future and just take the beauty of life.”
You have the power to change your thoughts; you have the power to make tomorrow a better day than today, and it might not be much better, but the small victories slowly add up when you live life day by day and learn to thank the small things.

28、根据下面短文内容,在短文的空格中填上一个恰当的词,使短文完整,通顺。
Have you noticed that the phrase “You’re welcome” has largely been taken place by two new words — “No problem.”?
Here is an example:
Shop assistant, “Here’s your change, Madam.” Me, “Thank you.” Shop assistant, “No problem.”
But to me, “No problem” is a 【1】. I want to be thanked for going to a shop. I don’t want this automatic (机械的) reply. “You are welcome” means “You are welcome to shop here; thanks for 【2】 us to help you.” When I hear “no problem”, what I think is: “You’re not helping me. I’ll go somewhere else next time.”
There are some 【3】 annoying phrases, of course. But this one especially seems to just push people to one side. It seems to say, “I’ve taken care of you, so now leave me alone.” It seems that 【4】 the shop assistant wants to say is that you are actually not “welcome”.
It’s part of a whole, lazy culture. People don’t notice each other. People can’t be bothered (打搅). People sit 【5】 in cafes, but they don’t talk. They just look at their mobile phones. If you ask one of these people to move their chair a little 【6】 you can sit down, they reply, “No problem.” I don’t feel that means “You’re welcome to 【7】 the table.” I feel it means “No problem that you only bothered me a bit.”
Lots of people think this phrase is mainly used by younger people, just 【8】 another word “whatever”. But actually, “no problem” crosses generations (一代人). It’s taken hold in a way that fits no single group of people. There is “no problem” wherever you go. Next time you’re about to say those two words, stop for a minute. Make eye contact, and say with a smile: “You’re welcome.”
Be a bit more polite? No problem.
