21、 If you truly want to live, you need to get out and see the world. Traveling and living different adventures may become your favorite lifestyle. Here is a brief introduction about the top three destinations to visit in the world.
Paris
First on the list is Paris, France. For some people, this shouldn’t be a surprise. For others, they might consider Paris overrated as it has a reputation for being dirty. Any major city in the world might be thought to be dirty by anyone not living in a city. It comes with the territory. The reason Paris is at the top of this list is not because of its famous attractions but because of its charm. You can spend the day walking around cobblestone streets and enjoy elegant cafes and high-end shopping. When you finish satisfying your appetite, you can relax on the banks of the Seine River.
Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park comes in second on the list. It is located in Montana, America. It will be well worth the effort thanks to snow-capped mountains, crystal blue lakes, seventy miles of hiking trails, and thirteen camping areas. If you visit during the summer, you can go swimming or white-water rafting. If you visit during the winter, you can go skiing or snowshoeing. But the real allure (诱惑力) and what you will always remember is the breathtaking scenery and fresh mountain air.
Bora Bora
The reason Bora Bora is the third on this list is that it’s expensive, which could limit your other travel plans. If you do make it to this small island paradise, you will find peaceful beaches, jungles, luxury accommodations, turquoise water, and some of the friendliest people you have ever met.
Other vacation destinations that should be on your list if you’re living the adventurous lifestyle include London, the South Island of New Zealand, Maui, Tahiti, Tokyo, Barcelona and New York City.

22、 The world’s hottest rainforest is located not in the Amazon or anywhere else you might expect, but inside Biosphere (生物圈) 2, the experimental scientific research facility in the desert outside Tucson, Arizona. A recent study of tropical trees planted there in the early 1990s reported a surprising result: They have withstood temperatures higher than any likely to be experienced by tropical forests this century.
The study adds to a growing number of findings that are giving forest scientists something that’s been in short supply lately : hope. Plants may have unexpected resources that could help them survive — and perhaps even prosper — in a hotter, more carbon-rich future. And while tropical forests still face both human and natural threats, some researchers believe terrible reports of their approaching decline due to climate change may have been overstated.
“Biology is clever, ”says Scott Saleska, an ecologist at the University of Arizona in Tucson and co-leader of the Biosphere 2 study. “It’s a lot smarter than our models yet represent.”
The last few years have seen a flood of alarming reports about forests and climate change’s effects on them. Scientists have announced that the Amazon forest is no longer a reliable carbon sink; the Amazon rainforest may be nearing a tipping point; tropical forests globally are already close to the hottest temperatures they can tolerate and climate change is killing off old trees.
One thing is certainly true: Our fossil fuel emissions are creating a climate that humans have never seen and trees haven’t experienced in a very long time.“We’re pushing tropical forests into temperatures they’ve never seen since the Cretaceous — since there were dinosaurs,” says Abigail Swann, an ecologist and climate scientist at the University of Washington in Seattle.
【1】Where is the hottest rainforest located according to the article?
A.In the Amazon tropical forest.
B.In a research facility in Arizona.
C.In the rainforest in Brazil.
D.At the University of Arizona.
【2】What can we conclude from the second paragraph?
A.Forest scientists still lack numbers of findings about rainforest.
B.Plants may not survive in hot and carbon rich future than expected.
C.Plants may survive in hotter and more carbon-rich environment.
D.People may overstate the climate change in the future.
【3】How will the fossil fuel emissions change the climate?
A.We have never seen the climate change due to greenhouse.
B.The fossil fuel emissions may destroy the whole ecosystem.
C.The temperatures may reach as high as those in dinosaur period.
D.The fossil fuel emissions may create a climate plants can’t bear.
【4】What may be the best title of the article?
A.The world’s hottest rainforest in the wild
B.Plants may die of fossil fuel emissions due to mankind
C.The Amazon forest is declining quickly in the future
D.Plants may stand hotter temperature than expected
23、A twenty-three-year-old Dutch student has enjoyed a short but unexpected holiday in Dubai. Mr Frank Vreede, a business student, had taken a part-time job at Schiphol Airport to help pay for his studies. He worked as a baggage handler and was responsible for loading the suitcases into the hold of passenger planes.
Last Friday night, after an exhausting day in the university library preparing for his final exams, Frank was loading a plane at the airport. He was waiting for the next baggage truck to arrive and he felt tired. He decided to have a quick rest, so he sat down in the hold of the plane and shut his eyes—just for a moment.
However, while he was sleeping, the plane took off. An hour later, Frank woke up and was frightened to discover that the plane was in the air. There was a terrible noise from the engines, and he tried not to be afraid. Frank knew the flight would be long because it was an airline from the Middle East. He also knew he could not survive the freezing temperature. It was an impossible situation.
He decided to make as much noise as possible. He banged on the ceiling of the baggage hold and shouted at the top of his voice. Luckily, a passenger heard the noise and told the pilot. Once the captain understood what was happening, he ordered hot air to be pumped into the hold.
When the plane arrived at Dubai International Airport, doctors examined him but he was unhurt. The managing director of one of Dubai’s top hotels offered him a free room for the weekend.
Frank explained that he was very lucky because it is possible to die of cold in the hold of an aircraft. He apologized to his boss for sleeping at work instead of working, and promised it would not happen again. “During the flight I was petrified. I thought I was going to die!” said Mr Vreede. “I wouldn’t want to do it again. Next time, I’ll catch a regular flight!”
【1】Which of the following statements is the explanation of “It was an impossible situation” (in paragraph 3)?
A.The long flight might not end as scheduled.
B.It was too cold to survive in the hold of the plane.
C.Frank was too tired to let others know what happened.
D.The noise would keep Frank awake during the journey.
【2】What happened to Frank when he arrived at Dubai?
A.He was found seriously hurt.
B.He was sent back home immediately.
C.He stayed in a hotel for the weekend.
D.He apologized to his manager for his mistake.

24、Educators and business leaders have more in common than it may seem. 【1】. Technology companies have a great interest in developing a workforce with the STEM skills needed to grow the company. How can they work together to achieve these goals? Play may be the answer.
【2】, but the reality is that STEM skills are enhanced and more relevant when combined with traditional, hands-on creative activities. That is why technology companies are partnering with educators to bring back old fashion play.
Many experts argue that the most important skills aren’t related to specific technologies, but to creativity skills like imagination, problem-solving, and the ability to experiment and take risks. 【3】. High-tech industries have found that their best overall problem solvers were master tinkerers (鼓捣小玩意的人) in their youth.
There are cognitive benefits of doing things the way we did as children — building something, tearing it down, then building it up again. Research shows that given 15 minutes of free play, four-and five-year-olds will spend a third of this time engaged in spatial, mathematical, and architectural activities. 【4】.
If play and building are critical to 21st century skill development, then that’s really good news for two reasons: Children are born builders, makers, and creators, so fostering 21st century skills may be as simple as giving kids room to play, tinker and try things out; secondly, it doesn’t take 21st century technology to foster 21st century skills. This is especially important for under-resourced schools and communities. 【5】. And anyone, anywhere, can do it.
A.Focusing on STEM skills, like robotics or coding, is important
B.Educators seek advice from technology companies to achieve teaching goals
C.These are skills acquired when kids play
D.Children acquire the skills needed for 21st century by engaging in activities involving specific technologies
E.Teachers want to prepare students for a successful future
F.Taking whatever materials are handy and tinkering with them is a simple way to engage those important “maker” skills
G.This type of play helps children discover and develop key principles in math and geometry

26、阅读下面文章,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整短文,续写词数应为150左右。
It was Hoppy’s first day at his new school. He didn’t know anyone yet, but he had seen some cool kids at the beach during the summer.
Billy, one of the cool kids, sat down next to Hoppy at break and started to have a talk. They discovered they shared the same interest, surfing, but Hobby went to the beach with his dad, instead of hanging out there with friends, which was laughed at by Billy. He invited Hoppy to the beach with his friends. Hoppy nodded, happy to have a new friend.
After school Hoppy met Billy and his three friends at the school gate, one of whom tried to punch Hoppy’s stomach as a way of “greetings”. While walking on the street, they met a boy, having trouble with his bike. Billy and his friends started to tease the boy. The boy looked up uneasily about this interest in him and his flat-tyre.
Billy nudged the boy so that he fell on the kerb (侧石) and broke his glasses. Billy and his friends ran off down the street, laughing. However, Hoppy just stood there.
The boy, Gerald, sat on the kerb, crying now. He looked up at Hoppy and begged him not to hit him. Hoppy smiled and said, “I’ve never beaten anyone up. Only bullies (霸凌) and cowards do that. Really strong people keep their fists in their pockets. That’s what my dad says.” Gerald seemed relieved. They walked to Gerald’s house, talking about going to the beach together. Their friendship grew.
One Sunday, Hoppy went to the beach with his father. Billy and his friends were there. Billy called out to Hoppy, complaining about helping Gerald. He spoke in an unpleasant tone, saying his dad was his babysitter. Hoppy smiled and ignored him.
Gerald arrived to see Hoppy. When he saw the boys, his heart sank. Billy and his gang surrounded him. “Hoppy’s tricked me,” thought Gerald, and he started to walk away. Billy ran after Gerald and tripped him. Gerald fell onto the sand, but picked himself up and asked them to leave him alone. However, Billy didn’t stop and tripped Gerald again.
Paragraph 1:
This time Gerald managed a brave smile as he got up and faced the boys.
