21、 Your car is a necessary part of your life. You use it every day. Of course, you want to hold on to it so you make sure it has the latest alarm and immobilizer (汽车防盗器).But despite all these, cars like yours are still stolen every day. In fact, in this country, one car is stolen almost every minute! And if your car is stolen, you only have a 50:50 chance of seeing it again.
Each year, car crime costs nearly £3 billion. Of course, if you're insured (保险),you won't lose out, or will you? Firstly, you will have to pay extra insurance later on, and then you may not be offered the full amount by the agent. You will probably have to hire a car and you will also lose he value of the contents and accessories (配件)in the car.
Now comes the solution. An RAC Trackstar system, hidden in one of 47 possible secret locations in your car, is the key to our system. If your car is stolen, radio signals are sent at twenty﹣second intervals from the car to the RAC Trackstar National Control Center via a satellite network. Then a computer gives he vehicle's exact location, speed and direction.
The RAC Trackstar National Control Center, which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, will immediately inform the police in the area where the car is located. Because the police receive information every twenty seconds, they will always know the vehicle's location. Once the thief has been arrested, your car will be returned to you.
RAC Trackstar is unique in being able to provide the National Control Center with details of the exact location of your car, its speed and direction. And speed is the key to successful recovery of a stolen vehicle. RAC Trackstar Control will immediately tell the police if you report your car stolen and under the 24﹣hour Guardian Option. It will also tell you if your car has been stolen. RAC Trackstar's constant updates mean the police are kept informed of the car's location. All these greatly improve your chances of seeing your car again.

22、Do you have what it takes to survive in the desert in the event of an accident or emergency? In fact, you don’t have to be a survival expert as long as you can keep some important tips in mind.
Keep your head covered. It’s been said that the biggest dangers in desert survival are exposure and dehydration. 【1】 One of the best defenses against the sun is always having a big hat or other coverings for your head with you. If the top of your head is exposed to the direct sun, or even indirect sun for long periods, your body needs to work hard to keep itself cool. 【2】
Cover the rest of your body as well. 【3】 Finding shade or constructing a shade shelter is one of the first ways for desert survival, as keeping out of the direct sun and not exposing yourself to the heat of the day will help to save water.
【4】 Actually, do drink the water, if you have it. Just don’t run out of it all at the first sign of thirst. A better way is to ration it for yourself, taking smaller sips throughout the day. If you do come across water in the desert, use extreme caution before you start drinking it down — it may not be safe for drinking.
Stay hungry. 【5】 So if you have food with you, take care to only nibble enough to keep the hunger pains away and your energy up. Your body can survive much longer without food than it can without water.
A.Don’t drink up the water.
B.Drink as much water as possible.
C.Neither of these is to be taken lightly.
D.The more you eat, the thirstier you’ll get.
E.This goes hand in hand with the first tip.
F.So the first rule in desert travel is covering the head up.
G.And the last thing you want to do is increase your thirst.
23、I have always loved food. At home, I do the things that every foodie does. I regularly attend food festivals, I cook five-course meals for my friends, and I watch Top Chef and dream of another life in which I might have become a chef.
However, it was not until five years ago, when my husband and I traveled to South Africa, that I combined my love for traveling with food. South African cuisine is a mixture of many different subcultures. If we have only been there to see the elephants,we would not have learned as much as we did about the vast and dynamic culture of the country if we had not taken into account its food. Sure, we could have opened a textbook and read of the history that brought all of these cultures together, but we would not have experienced it firsthand and taken home all of the priceless memories we did. Until then, I had no idea about the limitless benefits that one could gain from traveling for food.
You are wondering how food can be powerful. right? It is simple. Eating used all five sense. Not only do we taste our food, we also touch it, smell it, see it with our eyes, and listen to it sizzling (咝咝作响) in the pan. We are in a heightened state of being whenever we interact with food. Personally. the taste of Malbec transports me to a tasting room (品酒室) in Argentina. The smell of lime (酸橙) instantly brings to mind the Thai cooking class I took in Chiang Mai.
You see, food has the ability to shape your journeys and define your memories. Food is also an essential par of life and community, It is what makes us who we are as a people I read a lot of travel articles about how to save money on food while traveling and how to avoid street food so as not to get sick. I seriously question whether you can experience the authentic side of a culture without trying some of its local food. After all, what is Thailand without a plate of Pad Thai, Canada without poutine (肉汁乳酪薯条), and Mexico without tacos (玉米薄饼卷)? I am exaggerating a little.but you get the point.
The world is full of incredible foods beckoning to be eaten and they are all just a plane ride or road trip away. Even if you are not a foodie, well, you still have to eat. So why not eat a little, learn a little, and take home the leftovers?

24、A MAGICAL PLACE
Theme parks? I just love them. In a month or so, the UK’s finest will throw their gates open for the new season to thrill us with their engineered delights. As usual, I will be the first person inside. Yes, I may be a digital enthusiast, but to me there is nothing as irresistible or as thrilling as the full-on experience of spending a day in someone else’s imagination.
Dr. Carissa Baker, assistant professor in theme parks and storytelling at the University of Central Florida, argued in 2018 that theme parks are gatherers and tellers of stories. Their distinct narratives start before you enter the park, are played out in what you experience there, and continue after you’ve left. How do they do it? Some believe it’s down to creative direction and narrative system design. But I call it like I see it: they use all the psychological tricks in my social psychology textbooks to get us to feel and act in the way that the people behind the scenes foretell.
Everything in theme parks is manipulated(操纵). Everything is accounted for. Whereas in the digital world, designers infer what we feel, these theme parks digest these emotions. A famous example is Disneyland’s Main Street USA, which you walk down on first entering the park: the sets have been designed with forced perspective so the buildings appear taller and grander than they really are. Techniques like this are everywhere to be seen in the squares of Renaissance Italy and Georgian England to make the buildings seem bigger than they were. The mythical Main Street is made to feel larger and more impressive, which gets visitors excited when they enter the park—we are the hero of Disneyland’s narrative. Now that’s a powerful trick.
The digital world is nowhere near as magical as these places are. Yes, digital designers can create something out of nothing with mathematics and electricity, but their best attempts are only shortcuts in two-dimensional space. All they have in their toolboxes are sight and sound. But in theme parks, digital is out of place. Yes, behind the scenes there are data machines that are trying to track us to make our experiences better and more personal. Except for one or two notable examples, digital tech isn’t being used to enhance our time at the park in any practical way. It just gets in the way. And perhaps that is why I love theme parks. Because when I’m there, I want to be propelled(推动) by someone else’s vision, and give over to the feeling.
The next killer app isn’t on your device. It’s in the places that thrill us and compel us to keep our phones in our pockets so we can truly experience them.
【1】From the first paragraph we can conclude that ________.
A.engineers in the UK are full of imagination
B.the writer is enthusiastic about digital devices
C.the writer finds theme parks charming and exciting
D.it takes much imagination to guess visitors’ preferences

A.the experience in theme parks helps him to let out emotions
B.they provide a designed setting in which he is easily absorbed
C.the digital effect makes theme parks a wonderland full of magic
D.the psychological tricks they use make him feel manipulated
【3】What can be inferred from the passage?
A.It is advisable to put down your phone and get a taste of what theme parks bring you.
B.Nowhere else can you find a place as magical as the digital world.
C.The huge constructions in theme parks are designed to appeal to more visitors.
D.Digital tech plays an irreplaceable role in keeping theme parks running smoothly.
【4】What does the article mainly talk about?
A.The distinct properties that theme parks and digital devices have.
B.The thrilling and irresistible experiences the writer has in theme parks.
C.Digital devices meant to create a magic world with simple techniques.
D.Clever techniques used by theme parks to make your visit memorable.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Even before I reached the tent, I knew there would be trouble. My little brother Andy was following me, with a sleeping bag, a flashlight, and his stuffed bear. My friends Wade and Bred think Andy would ruin everything. He would get scared in the middle of the night and have to be taken back to the house. They complained so much you'd think they were hospital patients instead of kids I'd invited for an outdoor sleepover.
Andy promised that he wouldn't ruin anything. He wormed his way into the tent and settled in the far corner. Night was settling in, too, with the woods around us fading toward black. The house, with its porch light, seemed a long way from us.
“Time for ghost stories!” Brad announced as soon as I'd closed the tent. He told a story about vampires (吸血鬼), but it only made us fall over laughing. When it was Wade's turn, he told a story of three guys who were camping in a tent. He described our situation exactly-except for Andy. When he was describing a terrifying creature, somewhere outside, a branch snapped (发出咔嚓声)。The hairs on my arms shot straight up. “These guys were crawling into their sleeping bags, right?” Wade continued. “When out of the darkness rang this terrible cry.” And out of the woods behind us there was a cry! High-pitched, frightening, and strange. The hairs on my head shot straight up!
“What was that?” Bred asked as the cry came again. We all looked at each other in horror, speechless. Wade suggested someone should go out to check, but no one dared. “What if it's something trapped or hurt?” Andy said anxiously. We focused our flashlights on Andy, whom we'd forgotten, sitting in the corner with his arms around his bear. Andy would adopt every lost or hurt animal in the world if Mom would let him.
注意:
1.续写的词数应为150左右;
