四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   New trains run across mountains and the Great Wall to the north of Beijing like bullets(子弹). They run on a high-speed railway line connecting Beijing and Zhangjiakou that came into service in the last month of 2019.

The railway is an important support project for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The 174-km railway’s trains move at a top speed of 350 km/h. This reduces the travel time between Beijing and Zhangjiakou, the host cities of the Winter Games, from over three hours to only 47 minutes.

Some of the trains on this railway are smart trains that can run by themselves. With the help of Beidou, they can start, run between stations, change their timing according to the schedule, accurately stop at a station, and open and close their doors. Passengers can also watch live events during the Winter Olympics on the train which is equipped with 5G technology.

Some people refer to Zhan Tianyou as “the father of China’s railways”. He led construction on the old Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway, China’s first independent-designed railway.

Back in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), building a railway without foreign help was thought to be impossible. But Zhan, the main engineer of the railway project, believed that it could be done. After overcoming many difficulties, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou line was put into service in 1909. Its trains ran at 35 km/h.

As President Xi said, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway stands for the development of China’s railways over more than a century, as well as China’s development in general.

【1】When was the new Beijing and Zhangjiakou line put into use?

    A.In September.

    B.In October.

    C.In November.

    D.In December.

【2】What is the third paragraph mainly about?

    A.The self-driving train.

    B.The 2022 Winter Olympics.

    C.The advantages of Beidou.

    D.The development of 5G.

【3】What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to?

    A.Reducing the travel time.

    B.Watching live events.

    C.Building China’s own railway.

    D.Holding the Winter Olympics.

【4】What can we know about Zhan Tianyou?

    A.He produced the first train.

    B.He designed China’s first railway.

C.He drove the first train in China.

D.He increased the speed of train.

【5】What can we infer(推断) from the text?

A.Zhan Tianyou is “the father of China’s high-speed railways”.

B.The high-speed train runs five times faster than the first train.

C.The Beijing-Zhangjiakou line was designed by foreign engineers.

D.China has made great progress in developing high-speed railways.

  • 25、根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案。

It was 9:15 as Marie hurried into the office building; her bus had inched along through heavy morning traffic, making her a few minutes late for her very first job. She decided to start out half an hour earlier the next day. Once inside the lobby (大厅), she had to stand in the elevators and wait several minutes before she could get on one going to the sixth floor. When she finally reached the office marked “King Enterprises”, she knocked at the door nervously and waited. There was no answer. She tapped on the door again, but still there was no reply. From inside the next office, she could hear the sound of voices, so she opened the door and went in. Although she was sure it was the same office she had been in two weeks ago when she had the interview with Mr King, it looked quite different now. In fact, it hardly looked like an office at all. The employees(雇员)were just standing around chatting and smoking. At the end of the room, somebody must have just told a funny joke, she thought, because there was a loud of laughter as she came in. For a moment she had thought they were laughing at her. Then one of the men looked at his watch, clapped his hands and said something to the others. Quickly they all went to their desks and, in a matter of seconds, everyone was hard at work. No one paid any attention to Marie. Finally she went up to the man who was sitting at the desk nearest to the door and explained that this was her first day in the office. Hardly looking up from his work, he told her to have a seat and wait for Mr King, who would arrive at any moment. Then Marie realized that the day’s work in the office began just before Mr King arrived. Later she found out that Mr King lived in Connecticut and came into Manhattan on the same train every morning, arriving in the office at 9:35, so that his staff (职员) knew exactly when to start working.

【1】What did Marie decide to do the next day?

A.She took the bus to work.

B.She decided to go to work two hours earlier.

C.She decided to go to work a few minutes earlier.

D.She decided to start out half an hour earlier.

【2】Marie felt nervous when she knocked at the door because ________.

A.it was her second day at her new job

    B.she couldn’t find her way

C.she was a little bit late for work

D.there was no answer from inside the office

【3】Marie could hardly recognize the office she went into as ________.

A.she had been there only once

    B.nobody was doing any work

C.Mr King was not in the office

D.the office had a new appearance

【4】The people in the office suddenly started working because ________.

A.the boss was about to arrive

B.they saw a strange man in the office

C.no one wanted to talk to Marie

D.they had finished their morning break

【5】We can infer from the passage that the employees of the enterprise ________.

    A.were cold to newcomers

B.were always punctual (准时的) for work

    C.showed devotion to the company

D.would start their work by relaxing some time

【6】Which is the best title for this passage?

    A.Punctual Like a Clock.

    B.Before the Boss Arrives.

    C.An Unpunctual Manager.

    D.Better Late Than Never.

【7】Why didn’t Marie’s workmates pay attention to her any more and began to work?

A.Because it was time to work.

B.Because Mr King would arrive at any time.

C.Because they were busy with their work.

    D.Because they worked hard.

  • 26、   Completing chores promotes the development of many basic skills necessary for success in life. For younger children completing simple chores can improve coordination and motor skills (协调与行动技能). Completing chores also enhances a child’s ability to follow directions and helps develop planning and organization skills. Completing chores also helps children develop time management skills. Researchers found that children who did household chores also scored high on measures of academic success.

Doing chores also helps children develop a sense of responsibility. They not only engage in self-help skills which foster(培养) a sense of independence and a sense of shared responsibility. Successfully completing chores also promotes feelings of self-worth and belonging. When parents do everything, children may feel either dependent on others or may expect things to be done for them.

There is a reason we call chores, chores. Most people, including parents, don’t love doing them, but they need to be done anyway. It’s obvious that kids learning to take care of themselves and help around the house helps them to become more independent and ready for the freedom that will come when they get older. I think it is necessary to distinguish(区别) between self-help and maintaining the household. Some children consider picking up toys, making their bed, or even brushing their teeth as a chore.

The obsession with screen time by many children adds to the problem. They hate any activity that may rob(夺去) them of a few more minutes on their electronic devices. One rule of thumb(实用原则) should be that activities related to personal care, homework, and helping out the family or the family pet come first. When responsibilities are met and if there is time left, it can be used for recreational activities. The average kid in the U.S. receives an allowance (pocket money) of $800 per year. However, I believe that kids should do chores for the same reason parents do—because the chores need to be done, and not with the expectation of getting money. I suggest that an allowance ought to stand on its own, not as a payment but as a teaching tool. For example, allowances can teach kids about the value of saving, and how to plan to use money.

1The first paragraph is mainly about ______.

A.the benefits of kids doing chores

B.the skills a kid should have

    C.the measures of academic success

D.the ways to be successful in life

2The writer probably agrees that ______.

A.pocket money can be a tool to teach kids about money

B.obsession with screen time may drive kids to do chores

C.kids know how to tell self-help from maintaining the household

D.kids can do everything on their own with the help of their parents

3The purpose of the passage is to tell readers ______.

    A.doing chores is being responsible

B.kids should be away from screens

C.it’s good for kids to complete chores

D.kids who do chores are more independent
