21、Should people be allowed to use cell phones while driving? People have different opinions about it.
No, because in this world some people drive very crazily. So most people who use cell phones to talk in the car usually pay more attention to what they are talking about than to driving. One of the reasons that I feel this way is that my friend had a car accident while using a cell phone. He lost his life and his friends did, too.
——Alejandra Pachecho from Venezuela
That depends. The advantages of using a cell phone while driving arc that you can call the police if there is a car accident, and call for help when somebody’s car breaks down. The disadvantage is that people get distracted (思想不集中) when they are driving at the same time they are talking on a cell phone. It can cause car accidents.
——Rodrigo Cruz from Colombia
Yes, if they use it correctly. Sometimes drivers arc very dangerous when they are talking on a cell phone. They may not drive well if they use one hand to hold the phone and the other hand to drive. In this case, drivers should use a hand-free accessory to talk while driving. That is a safe way to use them while driving.
——Pantium Wong from Hong Kong
No. Cell phones are extremely popular among teenagers. One problem is that they talk on them while they’re driving. Sometimes some of them aren’t careful and drive too fast. Talking on a cell phone while driving at high speed is very dangerous. They shouldn’t drive and talk on the phone at the same time because they can’t control the car and may cause accidents.

22、 The Egyptian city Thonis-Heracleion was founded in the eighth century B.C. For centuries, its location at the mouth of the Nile River made it a gateway to Egypt which foreign traders needed to pass through. This brought it both wealth and influence. Its name shows the city' s foreign ties: Thonis was its Egyptian name, but the Greeks, who had close contact with the Egyptians, named it Heracleion after the hero Hercules.
The neighboring city Canopus shared Thonis-Heracleion' s wealth and prestige (声望). Both cities appear in the writings of ancient historians and poets. But then they disappeared from all records. For centuries, no one even knew where these once-great cities were located.
In 1933 a British pilot flew over a bay in Egypt and spotted ruins. He reported his find, but nothing came of it. Not until 2000 did anyone research into the bay thoroughly. That year French archaeologist Franck Goddio used a tool that measured variations in the earth's magnetic field ( 磁场 ) to make a detailed map of the ocean floor. The map helped him and his team choose the most promising areas to dig.
At the bottom of the ocean, Goddio’s team found the remains of Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus. They carefully dug the cities out from mountains of sand that had settled over them. They made some amazing discoveries, such as a five-meter-tall statue. A stele, (石碑) records the city' s name and information about laws, such as tax regulations. And 69 ships lay buried in the same bay - the largest group of ancient ships ever found.
For all their glory, these cities were built on a foundation of soft clay ( 黏 土 ). As their populations grew, the weight of people and homes pressed the clay. In A.D. 800 the ground below the city collapsed (坍塌), causing people to run away. The ground collapsed again some time later, and over the course of 1,000 years, the land sank under the waves. Under the water, sand settled gently over the ruins, saving them from being destroyed.
【1】What can we learn about the city Thonis-Heracicion?

B.It was once an important center of trade.
C.It was once under the control of the Greeks.
D.It was recorded in more detail than Canopus.
【2】Goddio found the sites of Thonis-Heraclcion and Canopus .
A.completely by chance
B.according to the historical records
C.with the support of the British pilot
D.thanks to the map of the ocean floor he made
【3】What do we know about the treasures found by Goddio's team?
A.They are still in good condition. B.They are of little historical value.
C.They were hidden in the mountains. D.They belonged to Thonis-Heracleion.

24、Simple Things You Can Do To Get Through Hard Times
Life is a series of peaks and valleys. Sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down. 【1】. Here’s how to make getting through hard times less difficult:
● Stay positive
This may sound cliche (陈词滥调), but the thing about cliches is that they’re typically true. 【2】. But I am saying you have to eventually adjust your mood and start moving forward. Staying positive is the key to getting through hard times.
● 【3】
When I find myself in the middle of an ugly situation, I like to pick everything apart and see what went wrong and what I could have done differently. I always end up learning something that helps me and I eventually get a really clear picture of what I need to do to make sure I’m not in the same situation again. Or if I do find myself in a similar situation, I know what to do to minimize the difficulty of the situation.
● Focus on what you can control, not what you can’t
Some situations are beyond your control and no matter what you do, you can’t change a thing. You’re making yourself upset when you focus your time and energy on things you can’t control. You should focus on the things that are within your control. 【4】.
● Realize you’ve come a long way
Sometimes we get so focused on the road ahead that we never look back to see what we’ve already traveled. 【5】. This will give yourself much confidence when you realize that you’ve already made so much progress and the light at the end of the tunnel will get brighter.
● Be kind to yourself
You need to care for yourself to survive tough times. Take a walk through the park, enjoy a cup of coffee, read an amazing book, etc.
It doesn’t matter what you do, just do something that gets your mind and body engaged at a higher level than wallowing in self-pity.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My husband and I got to experience a total stranger's kindness and generosity first-hand during a 10-day trip across the High Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert.
On our second-to-last day in Morocco, we happily took a trip to Essaouira, an old and beautiful seaside town on the Atlantic. During the journey there, we stopped at an Argan co-operative(合作社), where we got to taste some Argan oil and honey. After that, we headed where we stayed. We arrived at our small guesthouse in Essaouira at around dinnertime, and on our way to a local restaurants my husband started to feel unwell. He went back to our guesthouse while I had dinner with some friends.
When I got back to our guesthouse after dinner, I found my husband sitting on the bathroom floor, looking very pale. He had been sick about six times in an hour. He spent the rest of the night in the bathroom, getting very familiar with the house's pipe. Our main suspect was the Argan honey—it probably didn't agree with him.
At about 6 a. m., my husband finally managed to leave the bathroom and crawl into bed. He was very weak and dehydrated(脱水的),so I went down to the reception to buy a bottle of water. When I got to the lobby(门厅),I found a young man behind the desk, who didn't look older than 18, and explained to him that my husband was sick and I needed to buy some bottled water for him.
Our house was very small and basic and didn't have a restaurant or cafe. The young man informed me that they didn't sell any drinks at the house, so I asked him where the nearest shop was.
I looked out the window and my heart started to race. I didn't fancy risking going into the unfamiliar streets of the Medina in the dark, all by myself. In fact, I was afraid of it.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Instead of giving me directions to the nearest shop, the young man asked me to wait for him there.
