21、 I always pictured myself graduating from college, getting a cool job and even having a cute little place of my own. So far, I have a master's degree and the coolest job ever as a physician assistant. But instead of waking up in a pretty apartment, I hear the earlymorning sound of my parents making coffee downstairs.
At 27, I still live with my parents, and I love it.
My decision to live at home was not one of absolute necessity. As a physician assistant, I make a good salary and would be able to live on my own comfortably if I needed to do so. By the time I finished graduate school, I had had a D|S150,000 debt from both undergraduate and graduate education. With several of these loans earning a 7.9% interest rate, my father calculated that my loans were increasing by D|S15 a day in interest alone. At this rate, it would take me 30 years to pay off my student loans, with much of the payment going straight to interest. At last, I decided to live with my parents.
Beyond the endless supply of homecooked meals, the best thing about moving back home is that I am not alone. Several of my physician assistant friends are in the same boat as I am — we are all highly educated, whitecollar employees who live at home. Our coworkers in the medical field think it is a great idea because many of them are facing the same piles of debt. They often say if they could do it all again, they would do the same thing.
There's a stigma (耻辱) that comes along with this arrangement. Some people might assume that we are too lazy to find a job. I don't think my neighbors understand it, as they continually ask me when I am going to graduate and if I am old enough to look after their children. My mom just tells them that I'm successful, welleducated and that I save lives.
I love living at home. Now I've paid off D|S68,000 of my student loans. Our new relationship is symbiotic (共生的). My parents benefit from having an extra set of hands around the house to help with housework and a constant source to explain all popculture references.

22、There are many ways to travel within a city. We can walk, cycle, or take a bus. But no matter which way we travel, we have to stick to the route(线路) the city planners laid down for us.
Parkour practitioners (跑酷爱好者), however, see the city in a completely different way. To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs—since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path. The city is their playground.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has noticed that this activity is drawing more and more people to it—there are 100,000 people taking part in parkour today in the UK alone, according to the Guardian—and how it is helpful for people to be much stronger: It trains coordination(协调性) and balance. So the organization is thinking about recognizing parkour as a new sport and adding it to the Olympics by 2024.
But parkour practitioners themselves don’t seem to be happy with the idea. They see parkour as “a lifestyle”, wrote the website NextSportStar. “It’s a competition against the conditions rather than just a sport.”
Indeed, many do parkour just to “escape the daily routine(事务) and experience the city in different ways”, wrote reporter Oli Mould on The Conversation. They see parkour as a way to express themselves through relaxing moves and creative routes while freeing themselves from the pressure.
It’s great that the FIG wants to develop new sport and stay close to a new cultural form. But it would be greater if they knew that not everything in life is a competition.
【1】How do the parkour practitioners do parkour?
A.They move on as they wish.
B.They choose the routes the city planners laid down.
C.They run faster than others.
D.They stick to certain routes.

A.It’s a special way of life.
B.It draws their attention.
C.It’s good for people to keep healthy.
D.It needs some rules and instructions.
【3】What is the author’s idea on parkour?
A.It is more formal than other sports.
B.It helps people to be creative.
C.It’s worth adding to the sporting event.
D.It calls on people to work as a team.
【4】What is the best title for the passage?
A.A new sports competition
B.Parkour practitioners
C.Training in a different way
D.Making the city their own
23、 Some students get so nervous before a test, they do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a psychology professor at the University of Chicago in IIIionois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers.
Sian Beilock:"They start worrying about the consequences. They might even start worrying about whether this exam is going to prevent them from getting into the college they want. And when we worry , it actually uses up attention and memory resources. I talk about it as your cognitive (认知) horsepower that you could otherwise be using to focus on the exam.
Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.
Sian Beilock:" What we think happens is when students put it down on paper, they think about the worst that could happen and they reassess the situation. They might realize it's not as had as they might think it was before and, in essence, it prevents these thoughts from popping up when they're actually taking a test."
The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short math tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test.
The researchers added to the pressure. They told the students that those who did well on the second test would get money. They also told them that their performance would affect other students as part of a team effort.
Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of twelve percent worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of five percent.
Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test.
Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+,compared to a B- for those who did not.
Sian Beilock :" What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who'd done our writing intervention(干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. Those students most likely to worry were performing just as well as their classmates who don't normally get nervous in these testing situations."
But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before and exam or presentation? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.
【1】What will happen to test-takers worrying too much before an exam?
A.No entry into the college. B.More concentration on the exam.
C.An undesirable outcome of the exam. D.Weak awareness of the exam.
【2】What is strongly suggested to case test-takers' deep anxiety?
A.Making adjustments to the exam. B.Listing their fears about the exam.
C.Sitting doing nothing before an exam. D.Getting pressed by tho examiners.
【3】What does the writer intend to tell us?
A.How to look at test anxiety.
B.How to reduce concern about the results.

Four Best Book Recommendation(推荐)Services If you’re on the hunt for something new and interesting to read, you have plenty of places to turn to. This week, we’re looking at four of the best book recommendation sites, services, or groups, based on your choices. | |
Goodreads Goodreads is more than just a book recommendation site, although it is good at helping you find new books to read based on the ones you enjoy. You can build a virtual “shelf” of books you own or have already read, share your progress with the books you’re reading, rate(分等级) the books you’ve read, leave reviews, and connect with other readers. You can also use those ratings to get book suggestions from the site’s database of books. Your friends can make direct suggestions to you, and even if the book suggestions that the site builds aren’t enough, you can go diving into user-generated book lists, reviews, and more. | BookBub While BookBub isn’t strictly a book recommendation service, it does bring you super-low-cost books based on your interests every day. The service is free, and when you sign up, you tell BookBub what kinds of books you like to read. From there, you’ll get an email from BookBub every day with book deals for that day. When we say “deal,” we mean it — many of BookBub’s titles are free entirely, $0.99, or just a couple of dollars. In some cases, they’re new titles that the author is trying to make popular later, and in other cases they’re just great, unnoticed titles you might not have discovered otherwise. |
LibraryThing LibraryThing has been around for a long time and is still a great user-powered book ratings, review, and recommendation site. The service calls itself the world’s largest book club, and that’s a lot like the overall feel. Once you sign up, you’ll be encouraged to start adding books you’ve read and leave reviews for them. Behind its book ratings and reviews though, LibraryThing is a powerful tool to classify and organize your entire book collection. It doesn’t take much to add all of the books in your library so you have a running collection of both your physical books and e-books all in one place. The service will also connect to your Amazon account to automatically pull down books you own and have read. | Reddit’s Book If you’re a Reddit fan, Reddit’s Book is a great place to go to see what everyone’s reading, or to get recommendations based on specific authors or titles you’ve enjoyed. Some of the top topics are community challenges and calls for recommendations on a specific theme, but here it doesn’t take much time to find interesting topics for people looking for specific types of books. One person is looking for bedtime books for their kids that combine wars with strong female characters; another person is interested in science fiction titles without alien threats. The sky’s the limit, and you can just as easily post your own topic with what you’re looking for. |

26、Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
Social media and teens’ anxiety
From cyber-bullying to cruel comments, social media can be a land mine for kids. Issues parents never worried about are now a risk for many teens. With kids’ digital well-being a concern, researchers are exploring potential links between social media and the rise in teen suicide rates, tech addiction, and loss of real-life social skills. Many parents are wondering: Is social media causing my kid to have anxiety?
It’s a question that worried parents. Some research has observed a relationship between social media use and anxiety in kids, but it’s difficult to know if and when social media causes anxiety or whether kids who are anxious turn to social media as a way to seek support. How kids use social media matters, too. Social comparison and feedback-seeking behaviors have been associated with depressive symptoms, which often co-occur with anxiety.
How can parents keep social media a positive for kids?
1. Seeing photos of a trip to the beach your friends didn’t invite you to can really be upsetting. If your kid is tired of digital drama, suggest they take a break from social media for a while. In fact, if they post a status update that they’re taking a break, their friends might be very accepting because they’ve had similar feelings.
2. People post stuff that makes their lives look perfect — not the homework struggles, or the fight they had with their dad. Remind kids that social media leaves the messy stuff out — and that everyone has ups and downs.
3. In a world where kids could spend their days lying around looking at Wechat, it’s doubly important for them to feel as though they’re cultivating their inner lives. Prompt them to balance social media with soul-nourishing activities such as hobbies, exercise, reading, and helping others. Otherwise, what are they going to show off about on social media?
