二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、 Please excuse me if I’m a little sad today because Mark is leaving. You probably don’t know Mark, but you might be lucky enough to know someone just like him. He’s been the heart and soul of the office for a couple of years combining professional skills with a sweet and gentle nature. He’s never been all that interested in getting credit for the terrific work he does.He just wants to do his job,and to do it extremely well.

And now he’s moving on to an exciting new professional opportunity. It sounds like it could be the chance of a lifetime, and we’re sincerely pleased for him.But that doesn’t make it any easier to say goodbye to a dear friend and trusted colleague.

Life has a way of throwing these curve(曲线的) balls at us.Just when we start to get comfortable with a person,a place or a situation, something comes along to change the recipe.A terrific neighbor moves away.Someone in the family graduates.A child finds new love and loyalties through marriage. The family’s bread-winner is laid off.Our ability to cope with change and disruption(混乱) determines our peace, happiness and contentment in life.

But how do we do that? According to the author of Ecclesiastes, comfort can be found in remembering that “to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.Let today embrace the past with remembrance, and the future with longing.’’

“Change, indeed,is painful, yet ever needful,”said philosopher Thomas Carlyle.“And if memory has its force and worth,so also has hope.”

We’re going to miss Mark. But rather than lose ourselves in the sadness of our parting,we’ll focus on our hopes for a brighter future——for him,and for us.And then we’ll go out and do everything we can to make that future happen.Until our plans change——again.

【1】What will happen to Mark soon?

A.He will pass away.     B.He will leave for a new job.

C.He will get married. D.He will stay with us forever.

2The underlined word “credit” in Para.1 probably means __________

    A.praise   B.criticism

    C.opportunity  D.job

    3From the passage,we can learn that __________

A.any change will make us upset any time

B.it is easy to say goodbye to a dear friend and trusted colleague

C.our happiness depends on our ability to deal with change

D.comfort can be found in remembering the sadness

4The best title of the passage may be __________

A.My Friend Mark    B.Focusing on Future

    C.Always Changing   D.A Sad Story

  • 22、   Crying is the sign of the rawest of human emotions. We cry when we can't hold inside what we feel any more. We cry when we're at our best, and when we're at our worst. I mean all of us, men included.

But we never see other men cry. In no western culture has it ever been acceptable for men to shed (流泪) more than a single tear, and even when it's reserved for grand victories, defeats and deaths. Dutch research suggests that women cry between three and five times more than men. Generally men and women cry over the same things—deaths, break-ups and homesickness, primarily, but researchers believe that men cry more often than women when it comes to positive events.

I want to admit I'm a bit of a cryer. However, having never really experienced deaths in my life, a few weeks ago I experienced what it means to really, truly, pour my heart out in tears.

See, my dog was killed by a car right outside my house. Being a witness to this painful event left me in shock for a good hour, but then the floodgates opened. Over the next 48 hours, I might have cried 20 times. Once or twice I crouched on the floor with my head in my hands and tears were the only outlet.

It is suggested in the book Adult Crying: A Biopsychosocial Approach that there's certain pleasure in crying. It helps ease stress when there is no other way to express ourselves.

In those days after my dog's death, I remember thinking, “I've got to stop this crying”. It felt unmanly. It felt like a sign of weakness. But since then, I've realized that tears are for everybody. They show we have sympathy, allow us to get rid of stress and just feel.

1What's the difference between men and women in crying according to Dutch research?

    A.They cry over different matters.

B.They cry at different times of life.

C.Men are more likely to have tears of joy.

D.Women cry more often over deaths.

2What did the author think of his crying over his dog's death?

A.A sign of strength. B.A sign of weakness.

C.A way of reducing emotional stress. D.Behavior of being womanish.

3What's the best title for the text

A.Men, it's OK to cry sometimes

    B.Men, never cry like women

    C.Crying solves psychological problems

D.Crying explains differences between men and women

  • 23、   Famous and respected Chinese poet Yu Guangzhong, passed away at 89 in a hospital in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Born in Nanjing, East China’s Jiangsu Province in 1928, Yu fled with his family at the age of 9 to Chongqing during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945). In 1947, he began studying at Jinling University in Nanjing, but later transferred to Xiamen University. In 1950, Yu and his family moved to Taiwan where he lived and worked until his death.

Published in 1971, the poem remains highly popular among Chinese speakers worldwide. Even those who know little about literature are familiar with lines from the poem: “When I was a child/ Nostalgia(乡愁)seemed a small stamp/ Here am I/ And there…my mother…”

Aside from his achievements in poetry, Yu was also a successful essay writer, critic(批评家)and translator.

“The reason why I stick to writing till today comes down to my passion(酷爱)for the Chinese language,” Yu told people in a 2015 interview, going on to explain that this passion was strengthened by his love for his mother and his motherland.

Yu’s death left many Chinese netizens(网民)shocked and heartbroken. Many lit virtual “candles” in honor of him on Chinese social media platforms.

“Mr. Yu’s poems often move me to tears when I read them. I have a collection of poetry that he once signed and it remains one of my most valuable treasures…R.I.P. Mr. Yu,” posted Yunan Province-based writer Mai Luoluo on Sina Weibo.

  • 24、   For hundreds of years, researchers have been trying to answer what kinds of things have an impact on people’s emotions(情感). How you feel is controlled by many things. Your emotions can be influenced by your personality, by the actions of others and by events around you. In addition, maybe you really don’t know your emotions can be affected by the weather as well.

People often say they feel pretty good when the sun is shining and bad when it is cloudy.

As a matter of fact, sunlight makes us feel good. When sunlight shins our skins, our bodies produce a vitamin. Vitamins are natural chemicals (化学物质) which we all need to stay healthy. Sunlight helps our bodies produce vitamin D and it can help our bodies to make a special chemical. This special chemical affects our brains(大脑) and makes us feel happy.

For example, there are long, dark winters of little sunlight in Sweden and Norway, so many people in these countries often feel sad. Without much sunlight, their bodies produce less vitamin D. Without enough vitamin D, their bodies make less of this special chemical which makes them feel good.

In order to help the people in these countries feel better, special “sunrooms” with artificial(人造的) lights have been built. People can go there and get “sunlight” for an hour or two!

The weather can also affect people’s emotions in other ways. Hot weather can make people angry because people feel uncomfortable when they are hot. In the same way, rain can make people angry because being wet can be unpleasant. As you can see, the weather can have an effect on the chemicals which control our brains. Through these ways, the weather can influence our emotions. Sadly, while the weather can change us, we can hardly change the weather.

1Which of the following is true about vitamin D according to the passage?

A.It is a kind of artificial chemical made by scientists.

B.It makes us worried by affecting our brains.

C.It is needed by us all to keep fit.

    D.It is in the sunlight.

2What can we infer (推断) from the passage?

A.We feel good when we are in the bright cool weather.

B.We will be happy when we are caught in the bad weather.

C.All people in Norway and Sweden feel sad in winter.

D.The more vitamin D you have, the happier you’ll be.

3What may be the best title for this passage?

    A.Why Do We Feel Sad?

    B.The Weather Influences People’s Emotions

    C.People Need More Vitamin D

D.We Can Hardly Change the Weather
