Hinichijou opened on Dec. 3 and has a rather minimalist (简约主义者的) design. With no tables or chairs—or even a door—it is just a grey wall with an uneven hole. After customers place their order by scanning a QR code on the wall, their coffee is served through the hole—by a fury bear claw (爪).
Having baristas (咖啡师) wear the bear paw prop (道具) has definitely drawn customers, with many flocking to the business to get videos of this novel approach to customer service. And if they’re lucky, they may even get a pat on the head or handed arose.
“Having your coffee handed to you by a fluffy (毛茸茸的) paw is a rather heart-warming experience,” said one satisfied customer.
While the concept is indeed endearing (惹人喜爱的), it isn’t the only factor keeping business flowing.
The baristas behind the bear claw are actually bearing impaired. Wang Haiqing, one of the café’s three founders, said that they were hired through the China Disabled Persons’ Federation. According to Wang, one of the reasons Hinichijou was founded was to provide more employment opportunities to disabled people. The story behind the shop “has melted the hearts of customers and Chinese internet users,” CGTN noted.
Wang hopes that customers feel the love and warmth from the employees, while also supporting the rights of those with disabilities.

22、 People born in winter are more likely to suffer mental health disorders, according to a recent study carried out by researchers at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.
Researchers raised baby mice from birth to weaning in either “summer” light cycles of 16 hours of light and 8 hours of dark or “winter” cycles of 8 hours of light and 16 hours of dark. A third group experienced 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark a day.
Then half the winter mice stayed in a winter cycle, while half switched to a summer schedule. The summer mice were similarly split. The mice raised in equal periods of light and dark were split into three groups, one of which stayed on the 12hour schedule, one of which joined the winter group, and one of which joined the summer group.
After 28 days, it turns out the summerborn mice behaved the same whether they stayed on the summer cycle or switched to winter. But among the winterborn mice, those that stayed in winter kept their previous schedule, while those that switched to summer stayed active for an extra hour and a half, which indicates that mice born and weaned in a winter light cycle showed dramatic disruptions in their biological clocks.
The finding is the first of its kind in mammals, and it could explain why people born in winter are at higher risk for mental health disorders.
“We know that the biological clock regulates mood in humans,” said study researcher McMahon. “If the mechanism similar to the one that we found in mice operates in humans, then it could not only have an effect on a number of behavioral disorders, but also have a more general effect on personality.”

23、Exciting new research suggests there could be living things in the clouds above Venus(金星), whose orbit brings it closer to the Earth than any other planets. A study of Venus’ atmosphere shows a type of gas is in its atmosphere. The gas, on the Earth, is only produced by very small creatures. If such creatures are found on Venus, it might be the first evidence of life existing somewhere else in the universe.
Scientists found the gas in thick clouds about 35 miles above Venus’equator(赤道). On the Earth, the gas is produced by special forms of life that live in airless environments such as swamps (沼泽). It can also be made in factories but neither explanation helps scientists to understand what the gas is doing on Venus.
To get to the bottom of the mystery, the scientists have now made their data public in the hope that others may be able to find a clue that they have missed. Professor Greaves explained that the gas might be produced by some non-living natu- ral process that we haven’t yet discovered, but for now, the idea of life on Venus has to be considered. She added, “In my whole career, I have been interested in the search for life elsewhere in the universe, so I’m just blown away that this is even possible. We are sincerely encouraging other people to tell us what we might have missed. This is how science works.” If scientists on the Earth are unable to find an explanation, then a future mission to Venus might be needed to prove whether or not life exists there. The US space agency NASA is already planning an exploration that they would float on a balloon through the clouds of Venus, and this could be launched sometime in the 2030s.
