22、 Your glasses may some day replace your smartphone, and some New Yorkers are ready for the switch. Some in the city can’t wait to try them on and use the maps and GPS that the futuristic eyewear is likely to include.
“I’d use it if I were hanging out with friends at 3 a. m. and going to the bar and wanted to see what was open,” said Walter Choo, 40, of Fort Greene.
The smartphone-like glasses will likely come out this year and cost between $250 and $600, the Times said, possibly including a variation of augmented reality, a technology already available on smartphones and tablets that overlays information onto the screen about one’s surroundings. So, for example, if you were walking down a street, indicators would pop up showing you the nearest coffee shop or directions could be plotted out and come into view right on the sidewalk in front of you.
“As far as a mainstream consumer product, this just isn’t something anybody needs,” said Sam Biddle, who writes for Gizmodo.com. “We’re accustomed to having one thing in our pocket to do all these things,” he added, “and the average consumer isn’t gonna be able to afford another device that’s hundreds and hundreds of dollars.” 9 to 5 Google publisher Seth Weintraub, who has been reporting on the smartphone-like glasses since last year, said he is confident that this type of wearable device will eventually be as common as smartphones.
“It’s just like smartphones 10 years ago,” Weintraub said. “A few people started getting emails on their phones, and people thought that was crazy. Same kind of thing. We see people bending their heads to look at their smartphones, and it’s unnatural,” he said. “There’s gonna be improvements to that, and this is a step there.”
【1】Which is one of the possible functions of the smartphone-like glasses?
A.Programing the opening hours of a bar.
B.Supplying you with a picture of the future.
C.Providing information about your surroundings.
D.Updating the maps and GPS in your smartphones.
【2】According to Sam Biddle, the smartphone-like glasses are _______.
A.necessary for teenagers B.attractive to New Yorkers
C.available to people worldwide D.expensive for average consumers
【3】What can we learn about the smartphone-like glasses from the last two paragraphs?
A.They may have a potential market. B.They are as common as smartphones.
C.They are popular among young adults. D.They will be improved by a new technology.
23、Teens Aren’t Getting Enough Sleep And Schools Are Partly to Blame
Most kids are severely sleep deprived, and early school starting times aren’t helping.
Across the country, only 17.7 percent of middle and high schools start classes after 8:30 a.m.. The average school start time for middle and high schools around the country is 8:03 a.m., according to a new analysis from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The AAP advises that schools start after 8:30 to help teenagers get 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep a night — the amount the AAP says is ideal. Currently, less than a third of high school students sleep 8 hours a night, says the CDC analysis.
The analysis uses 2011–2012 information from the Department of Education to gather the start times of about 39,700 schools. Alaska has the latest average school start time at 8:33 a.m., while Louisiana has the earliest at 7:40 a.m.
Sleep-deprived teenagers are more likely to suffer from depression, use drugs, get low grades and be overweight. Even though schools often face obstacles when trying to delay school start times due to traffic and scheduling concerns, some have made progress recently.
After Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts delayed school start times in 2008 from 7:55 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., the private school saw a number of benefits. As the Huffington Post previously reported, the school’s 2014 viewbook noted that students earned higher grades; ate more breakfasts, visited the health center far less frequently; and performed better in athletics. Teachers reported that first-period discussion classes were uncharacteristically lively from the beginning bell.
Half of parents whose teens attend schools that start before 8:30 would support a later start time, according to a 2014 survey from the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
【1】The benefits of enough sleep for students don’t include ________.
A.earning higher grades B.eating more breakfast
C.visiting the health center more frequently D.performing better in athletics

D.The lack of sleep may lead to various terrible problems.
【4】Where does this passage probably come from?
A.A research report. B.A health guide.
C.A class presentation. D.An official document.
24、Bumblebees(大黄蜂) are clever: when pollen(花粉) is short and plants near the nest are not yet flowering, they have learned to force them to bloom. Research published on Thursday in Science shows that the insects puncture the plants’ leaves, which causes them to flower about 30 days earlier than they otherwise would. How the technique developed and why the plants react by blooming remain unclear.
Consuelo De Moraes, a chemical ecologist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, says she and her teammates were observing one kind of bumblebee in an unrelated experiment when they noticed the insects were damaging plant leaves and wondered why. “At first we thought they might be feeding on the plants,” she says. And because previous research had shown stress could cause plants to flower, they also wondered whether the bees might be creating blooms on purpose.
To find out, the team placed bumblebees together with tomato plants in cages. The bees soon cut several holes in the leaves of each plant. As a test, the researchers tried to copy the bumblebee damage in additional plants with a knife. Both sets of plants with injured leaves bloomed faster, but the ones punctured by the bees flowered weeks earlier, suggesting that chemicals in the insects’ saliva(唾液) may be involved as well.
Next, the researchers moved out of the laboratory to see whether bumblebees would continue to damage nonflowering plants near their nest even if blooming plants were available farther away. They did so. The findings suggest the bees’ behavior is an adaptation that improves food-hunting efficiency(效率).
In the future, scientists could test how the behavior may have developed and how widespread it is among other wild bumblebees, as well as what is happening in plants after a bee bite. Understanding those questions could help us better face the climate change.
【1】What does the underlined word “puncture” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?

【3】Why did the researchers copy what the bumblebees did?
A.To prove a knife cut can work as a bee bite.
B.To figure out what helps plants flower faster
C.To find out why bumblebees damage plants.
D.To show bumblebees’ saliva helps plants bloom.
【4】What have the researchers made clear?
A.What happens in plants after a bee bite.
B.How bumblebees have learned the technique.
C.Whether bumblebees are clever in finding food.
D.Whether all the bumblebees have learned the skill.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容肯所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Mom, remember the time you made me go to a piano lesson with a broken arm?” my elder daughter asked as the family were enjoying a Sunday lunch. Ouch. That one hurt. I don’t know what hurt the most: the fact that Megan’s arm was broken or the fact that I did, in fact, take her to a piano lesson with a fresh break.
I vividly remember the day of the broken arm. As I picked up Megan, my little fifth-grader calmly stated, “My arm hurts. I can’t lift it.”
“What happened?”
“I fell.”
“Did you go to the nurse’s office?”
“No. I asked Mr. Smith, but he said I needed to take the spelling test. By the time the test was over, it was time to go.
Obviously, Mr. Smith, Megan’s teacher, was focused on the task at hand and not listening to my child.
By the time we finished this discussion, we were in front of her piano teacher’s house. There was no such thing as a cell phone in those days, so my plan was to call the doctor from the teacher’s home phone while Megan had lesson. The lesson was already paid for, right? While waiting for the doctor to come to the phone, I looked around the comer to check how the lesson was going. There sat my brave girl, holding her arm up to the keyboard with her other hand. As I finished arranging a doctor’s office visit, Megan finished her lesson with tears in her eyes.
We hurried to the doctor’s where an X-ray showed that, in fact, she did have a fractured (骨折的) arm. I watched her face, teeth digging into her bow bottom lip, while the nurses moved the arm into the right position.
By the time we arrived home, supper was long overdue. I hurried to prepare a quick meal while Megan told the whole story to her dad and little sister. I overheard her say, “Mom made me go to my piano lesson.” Wow, had I really done that?
注意:1. 续写次数应为150左右
2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答
Perhaps Mr. Smith wasn’t the only person focused on the task and not the child.
