    Be responsible for yourself.

Sometimes you may want to blame others for your failure to get ahead. In fact, when you say someone or something outside of yourself is stopping you from making success, you are giving away your own power.【2】

It is very difficult to try to get what you want without a good plan. 【4】

Nothing great is easy to get. So you must be ready to work hard even harder than you have ever done. If you are not willing to pay the price, you won't get anything valuable.

    Never give up

【5】When you are doing something, you must tell yourself again and again: giving up is worse than failure because failure can be the mother of success, but giving up means the death of hope.

A.A good plan is like a map to you.

B.It seems to us that everyone knows this. But it is easier said than done.

  • 23、One of the big knocks against solar panels (太阳能电板) is how much land they take up compared to how much power they produce. But what if there were a ready-made source of open land nearby to cities and towns that were guaranteed not to be used for anything else?

As it turns out, landfills (垃圾填埋场) are built into solar farms all over the country. While they present a bigger challenge than building one on flat ground, the idea of turning landfills and brownfields from their waste state into a new service for the community is deeply appealing.

For example, Nexamp’s Solar Star Urbana Landfill community solar farm occupies nearly 40 acres on a landfill. It features nearly 14,000 solar panels and produces 5.2 megawatts of clean energy for low and middle income residents (居民), who receive discounts on their energy bill if they sign up to take on the solar energy. Annapolis Maryland has one too-55,000 panels on an 80-acre landfill, producing power for 2,500 people.

It isn’t the easiest thing to build a solar farm on a landfill. For one thing, the traditional method of securing the panels on concrete struts (支柱) buried in the ground is out of the question, as it would break the cap on the landfill. This also currently puts a landfill solar panel out of the reach of current technologies that allow the movement of the panels to follow along the sun.

However there are also aspects which are easier, for example there are usually communities that live nearby landfills, and the local cheap power access can help save them money. Furthermore, there’s no risk of facing high land prices.

There are more than 10,000 closed or capped landfills around the country, and perhaps as many as 4,000 of them could be turned into solar farms immediately.

【1】How do residents benefit from taking on the solar energy?

A.They pay less for the energy bill.

B.Their land is paid for higher prices.

C.The energy they use is much cleaner.

D.They receive more energy than promised.

    【2】What’s Paragraph 4 mainly about?

A.The disadvantages of a traditional method.

B.The slow progress of current technologies.

C.The potential danger brought by solar energy.

D.The technical challenges of building a solar farm.

【3】What’s the author’s attitude towards building landfill solar farms?

    A.Critical.

    B.Ambiguous.

    C.Favorable.

    D.Objective.

  • 24、What could driving a race car and pointing a camera at the Milky Way have in common? More than you might imagine. Race car driver Bubba Wallace and photographer Batak Tefreshi journeyed together to remote Gooseberry Mesa for an adventure aimed at capturing the night sky.

Gooseberry Mesa, far from population centers, is protected from the nighttime light pollution making it perfect for star photographers. Nature night environments such as this are rare.

Camping, hiking, and shooting stars in mountainous Mesa highlight the similarity between photography and racing. Bubba notes, “Once you fire up the engine there's no turning back--I know I'll be in that seat for more than three hours.” Batak agrees, “I have the same feeling as soon as I touch the wheel of my camera--I'm ready to continue through the entire night.” For Bubba, developing patience allowed him to mature as a driver and is equally essential to his photography.

Seizing the moment is crucial too. “Every minute things are changing-the Earth's shadow, the moonlight, the rise of stars,” Batak explains. “If you lose the moment, it’s gone forever.” Bubba finds the physical and mental demands of racing as crucial when travelling in Utah's rugged landscapes under freezing temperatures.

Think incoming clouds, wind,or mist will ruin your chance at a perfect shot? According to Batak. “With wide-angle nights capes every unexpected weather condition can be an opportunity. Our photos show oranges and blues around the moon you wouldn't see under a clear sky.”

The team discovered shared interests that go beyond photography. “We're both passionate about bringing cultures together and using our work to break down boundaries,” says Batak. “The night sky has a unifying power. The sky connects the whole world under one umbrella.”

【1】Which is required in both car racing and photography?

    A.Willpower.

    B.Teamwork.

    C.Bravery.

    D.Creativity.

【2】What does Batak think of unexpected weather as a photographer?

    A.Annoying.

    B.Disastrous.

    C.Favorable.

    D.Challenging.

【3】Which may be a message behind the team's photography work?

    A.Appreciating the night sky.

    B.Connecting various cultures.

    C.Removing racial boundaries.

    D.Protecting the environment.
