二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Recently a new network word “ghost” is popular on line, which refers to a sort of Internet social behavior that your net friends or loved ones don't answer your online messages or phones on purpose as if leaving the earth. Thus you often wonder whether those chatters are ghosts or pretending to be dead. This behavior is called ghosting in the English world, which means “playing with disappearance ”

"Ghost” is better known as a noun referring to spirits of the dead, but "ghost” used as a verb which means "to disappear suddenly like a ghost", or "play with disappearancew is relatively unknown. Finally, owing to its high using frequency on line , this usage has been added to the Oxford Dictionary of Contemporary English.

Playing with disappearance or ghosting also has different grades. Wendy Walsh, a professor of psychology from Boston University told us, There are different grades of ghosting: If you just read on social software but never answer, you are only a lightweight ghosting player if you meet a person several times but try to avoid him , you are an ordinary ghosting player if you let your partner fall in love with you, but you suddenly disappear , which will give the other a heavy blow, you are a heavyweight ghosting player. ”

Why are some people accustomed to this kind of escapist social behavior? The Times reports that ghosting has a lot to do with how comfortable people feel and how they deal with their emotions. When they are in a complex interpersonal relationship, or it is too heavy for their weak mind to carry, they will have to choose to escape.

When you find yourself being ghosted, you may lose your self-respect, question yourself, or even hesitate to start the next friendship or love. How to get out of this emotional trouble? It's important to remember that when you're ghosted, it's the other's fault rather than yours. In addition, its good to risk telling others how you really feel, even if it's not what they want to hear. Have you ever been ghosted? What do you think of this way of dealing with a relationship?

1Which sort of the following Internet social behavior can be described as ghosting?

A.Leaving your friend after a quarrel.

B.Love breaking up after a fight.

C.Not replying to net friends on purpose.

    D.Missing after getting friends' money.

2According to professor Walsh, if you just read but never reply online, you are a( n)   player.

    A.heavyweight ghosting B.non-ghosting

    C.ordinary ghosting D.lightweight ghosting

3Which paragraph tells us the reasons why people are used to ghosting?

    A.Paragraph 2. B.Paragraph 3. C.Paragraph 4. D.Paragraph 5.

4How should you deal with it when you are ghosted according to the writer?

A.Never blame yourself and pour out your trouble to others bravely .

B.Search out their identification on the Internet and ruin their reputation.

C.Keep the trouble in mind and never tell others about it.

D.Turn to police for help and put them in prison.

  • 22、After 40 years, I met my childhood hero. Not a sporting god or an ageing popstar. Judy Blume, the beloved children’s author, at this year’s Sydney Writer’s Festival.

Still I am uneasy. As a primary school teacher and mum, what of today’s children’s inner lives? And their books? For them, “electronics have changed everything about the how of communication,” says Blume. “But not what they’re feeling.” Screens lure (诱惑) Australian children for up to seven hours a day. Screen time may involve reading and positive social interactions.

Reading books connects us in spirit. It unites generations and shapes children’s identity, their own voice. Reading books fired our imaginations. Characters filled our hearts. They were good company.

Will this generation feel the same? Surely “intelligent digital beings” like Siri, Alexa or Google Home could never replace children’s imaginary social companions?

Psychology Professor Sandra Calvert thinks it’s possible. She writes in the Journal of Children and Media although young children may understand that “artificial beings” are not biologically alive, children’s “personification and treatment of them ‘as if’ they are alive, may be enough to make them valuable social partners, who can serve as trusted teachers and friends”. Robots? Digital imitations can’t connect children with what it means to be human.

And books smell good. “How can we encourage children to read?” I asked my childhood hero. “Go to a bookstore with your child,” says Blume. “Sit on the floor. Turn the pages. Read the first page, a middle page, or don’t, but help your child find a voice they can connect with.” You can do that at the library or with a teacher. Me, I will be heading to the attic to dust off a few favourites.

    【1】What makes the author uneasy?

    A.Children’s reading less and less.

    B.Being a stressed teacher.

    C.An unhealthy lifestyle.

D.The effect of screen on children’s eyesight.

【2】What does Sandra Calvert say about Children?

    A.They lack encouragement.

B.They spend much time on screen.

    C.They demand trusted companions.

D.They are likely to be influenced by electronics.

【3】According to Blume, the way to encourage children to read mainly lies in ________.

    A.enabling them to have interest.

    B.parents’ serving as role models.

    C.accompanying them to a bookstore.

D.helping feel inner lives of themselves.

【4】What is the best title for the text?

    A.My Childhood Hero—Judy Blume.

    B.Reading Books’ Disadvantages.

C.Reading Books—More Positive Effects on Children

D.The Methods Helping Children Read More.

  • 23、Directions: Read the passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.

Each of us has a time of the day when we’re at our best. For some, it’s the morning, and for others, the afternoon or evening. These times relate to what scientists call our circadian clock (生物钟). 1

The research is the work of two authors, Aaron Schirmer and Benjamin Smarr. The pair used data from a university computer system to study the rhythms and activities of 15,000 students at Northeastern Illinois University between 2014 and 2016. They studied the data to see if there was a connection between the students’ schedules, their natural circadian clocks and their school performance.

2 But if students’ clock doesn’t agree with the rest of their lives, their performance was likely to suffer.

According to the study, those students who suffered from a mismatch underwent a kind of “social jet lag(时差)”. For example, some students performed best at night and therefore chose to study in the evening. But if those students had an early morning class, they often felt tired from late night studying and didn’t get the most out of the class. They might then go on to get a lower grade for exams and coursework. 3

The authors say mismatches between a student’s schedule and circadian clock can have a harmful effect, and not just in terms of academic performance. Social jet lag can also be bad for students’ health.

The authors don’t claim their study proves anything, but they do say that it provides food for thought for school administrators, who might like to think about special ways to help students who suffer on account of their schedules. 4

A.In addition, the findings alerted parents to their children’s sleeping patterns.

B.The study found that the closer a student’s schedule and their circadian clock, the better their grades were.

C.All students in the study suffered some degree of social jet lag, but late-night studiers suffered the most.

D.The clock genes create circadian rhythms in the body, which help control the timing of a variety of biological changes.

E.The findings could also help everyone to be aware, and hopefully take advantage, of their own biological rhythms to lead a healthy life.

F.Now, a new study suggests that the relationship between students’ circadian clocks and their study schedules can have a big effect on their grades.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、Directions: Read the following three passages. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

The British psychoanalyst John Bowlby maintains that separation from the parents during the sensitive "attachment" period from birth to three may scar a child's personality and cause emotional problems in later life. Some people have drawn the conclusion from Bowlby's work that children should not receive day care before the age of three because of the parental separation it results in, and many people do believe this. But there are also arguments against such a strong conclusion.

Firstly, authropologists(人类学家)point out that the isQulated love affair between children and parents found in modern societies does not usually exist in traditional societies. For example, we saw earlier that among the Ngoni(恩戈尼人)the father and mother of a child did not raise their infant alone - far from it.

Secondly, common sense tells us that day care would not be so widespread today if parents, caretakers found children had problems with it. Statistical studies of this kind have not yet been carried out, and even if they were, the results would be certain to be complicated and controversial.

Thirdly, in the last decade, there have been a number of careful American studies of children in day care, and they have reported that day care had a slightly positive effect on children's development. But tests that have had to be used to measure this development are not widely enough accepted to settle the issue.

But Bowlby's analysis raises the possibility that early day care has delayed effects. The possibility that such care might lead to, say, more mental illness or crime 15 or 20 years later can only be explored by the use of statistics. Whatever the long-term effects, parents sometimes find the immediate effects difficult to deal with. Children under three are likely to protest at leaving their parents and show unhappiness. At the age of three or three and half almost all children find the transition to nursery easy, and this is undoubtedly why more and more parents make use of child care at this time. The matter, then, is far from clear-cut, though experience and available evidence indicate that early is reasonable for infants.
