21、It has been seen as a hi-tech bike-sharing boom that entrepreneurs hope will make them rich while transforming China's traffic-jammed cities.
But, occasionally, dreams can turn less pleasant. In the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, more than 500 bicycles for hire have been found dumped in huge piles on the streets, according to reports. Pictures showed vehicles nearly three metres high, with small parts on the ground. City streets around the country have seen an explosion of the colourful bikes that users can rent on demand with a smartphone app and then park wherever they choose.
The sharing economy is taking off in China, where ride-sharing and Airbnb are increasingly commonplace. From Shanghai to Sichuan province, bike-sharing are being started in an effort to reduce traffic jam and air pollution by putting a country once known as the “Kingdom of Bicycles” back on two wheels.
Companies such as Ofo and Mobike, with their yellow and orange bikes, have been in a cut-throat battle for customers. But problems have arisen when clients have abandoned their cycles. “Some people these days just have really bad character,’’ a man named He,who lives near where the piles appeared, told the Southern Metropolis Daily. When they're done using (the bike) they just throw it away somewhere, because they've already paid. Residents told the paper that hikes had been piling up over the past week, either parked random by careless users or piled by local security guards trying to clear narrow residential alleys and footpaths.
Zhuang Chuangyu, a representative at Shenzhen's municipal people s congress, said the city needed to step up regulation of the bike-sharing industry in order to improve conditions and safety standards, especially since schoolchildren often used the bikes.
In 1980, almost 63% of commuters cycled to work, the Beijing Morning Post reported in 2015, citing government data. But by 2000 that number had decreased to 38% and today it stands at less than 12%. Car use, meanwhile, has rocketed. In 2010 China overtook the US to become the worlds largest car market, with 13.5 m vehicles sold in just 12 months.

22、Towards the end of Middle English, a sudden change in pronunciation started, with vowels (元音) being pronounced shorter and shorter. From the 16th century the British had contact (接触) with many people from around the world. This meant that lots of new vocabulary entered the language. The invention of printing also meant that there was now a common language in print. Books became cheaper and more people learned to read. Spelling and grammar became fixed, and the dialect of London became the standard. In 1604 the first English dictionary came out.
Early Modern English and Late Modern English are mostly different in the number of words. Late Modern English has many more words, mainly because of the following two reasons: First, the Industrial Revolution (工业革命) led to the need for new words. Second, the British Empire covered one quarter of the earth’s surface, and the English language took in foreign words from many countries.
From around 1600, the English colonization (殖民地化) of North America led to American English. Some English pronunciations and words “froze” when they reached America. In some ways, American English is more like the English of Shakespeare than modern British English. Some expressions that are called “American English” are in fact from British expressions. They were kept in the colonies while lost for a time in Britain. Spanish also had an influence (影响) on American English. For example, words like canyon, ranch, stampede and vigilante are from Spanish. They entered English by the people of Spain who settled in the American West. French words and West African words also influenced American English.
Today, American English has a greater influence, because of the USA’s movies, television, popular music, trade and technology.

23、Tips on How to Study Smarter
Having good study skills is always helpful. And it’s more important in the present situation, where online classes are growing. Students are likely to learn without a teacher or parent watching over. So you will have to manage your time and study more on your own. 【1】
◆Practice, practice, practice! Musicians, practice their instruments. Athletes practice sports skills. 【2】 If you want to be able to remember information, the best: thing you can do is practice. In one study, students took practice tests over several weeks. On the final test, they scored better than those who studied in the normal way.
◆Test yourself. Before big tests, you may often cover up the notes, and then try to recall them. This practice can help nearly everyone. You can put questions down on one side of the paper and the answers on the other side. Try to test yourself in the way the teacher asks questions. 【3】 They don’t just ask shallow questions.
◆Learn from mistakes. A secret of science: Mistakes help understanding. If you don’t find out what the answer is, you’re wasting your time. Checking the answers can make your study time more efficient. Check to see if you are right. 【4】 In fact, mistakes are actually a primary key to learning.
◆ 【5】 Students know some good study skills, yet many of you don’t actually do these things. Often you fail to plan ahead. So do make plans. And try to stick to a routine, too. For example, you can have a set time and place where you do schoolwork and study. And get enough sleep — not just the night before the test but for weeks or months on end.
A.You can add more skills.
B.Teachers often dig deeper.
C.Friends can test each, other.
D.Make a plan and stick to it.
E.The same should go, for learning.
F.You can then focus on what you get wrong.
G.Here are some tips to develop good study skills.
24、Each year, backed up by a growing anti-consumerist movement, people are using the holiday season to call on us all to shop less.
Driven by concerns about resource exhaustion, over recent years environmentalists have increasingly turned their sight on our “consumer culture”, with Groups such as The Story of Stuff and Buy Nothing New Day growing as a movement that increasingly blames all our ills on our desire to shop.
We clearly have a growing resource problem. The products we make, buy and use are often linked to the destruction of our waterways, biodiversity, climate and the land on which millions of people live, but to blame these issues on Christmas shoppers is misguided, and puts us in the old trap of blaming individuals for what is a systematic problem.
While we complain about environmental destruction over Christmas, environmentalists often forget what the holiday season actually means for many people. In fact, for most, rather than an add-on to an already heavy shopping year, Christmas is likely the only time of year they have the opportunity to spend on friends and family, or even just to buy the necessities needed for modern life.
This is particularly true for Boxing Day, often laughed at by anti-consumerists the most. While we may look down on the queues in front of the shops, for many, those sales provide the chance to buy things they've needed all year. As journalist Leigh Phillips argues, “This is one of the few times of the year that people can even hope to afford such ‘luxuries’, the Christmas presents their kids are asking for, or just an appliance that works.”
Indeed, the richest 7% of people are responsible for 50% of greenhouse gas emissions. This becomes particularly harmful when you take into account of our consumption “problem” anyway. Why are environmentalists attacking these individuals, while ignoring people like Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who has his own £ 1.5bn yacht with a missile defence system?
Anyway, anti-consumerism has become a movement of wealthy people talking down to the working class about their life choice, while ignoring the real cause of our environmental problem. It is no wonder no one is changing their behaviour—or that environmental destruction continues without becoming any less severe.
【1】What can be inferred about the environmentalist movement from Paragraphs 2 and 3?
A.It has targeted the wrong persons.
B.It has achieved its intended purposes.
C.It has solved the environmental problems.
D.It has persuaded consumers not to shop any more.
【2】What does Leigh Phillips think of Boxing Day?
A.A trap for consumers.
B.A tough problem to deal with.
C.A precious shopping opportunity.
D.A positive contribution to the economy.
【3】For what purpose is Roman Abramovich mentioned in the text?
A.To show how rich he is.
B.To announce he is a Russian.
C.To present his contributions to the environment.
D.To suggest the real cause of environmental problems hasn't been found.
【4】What is the text mainly about?
A.The environmental problems are very serious.
B.Less shopping can't solve the environmental problems.
C.Resources are becoming fewer and fewer on the earth.
D.Measures should be taken to protect the environment.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
What's the saddest moment you can think about in your life right now? I know mine. That day was one of the saddest days of my life. It was a Sunday in the year of 2020. I arrived at my class that morning. As soon as I walked in, the mood immediately felt depressing and uncomfortable. I knew exactly why the mood felt this way. The classmates around me were controlling their sadness. Today was the day when our head teacher would leave and move to another school. Mr. Smith was finally leaving our school after five years teaching here.
Mr. Smith was an extremely likable guy. He was very easy to talk with and to have fun with. He was cool, relaxed, and was always friendly when you would see him. He watched us grow up. He taught us knowledge and to love others. I couldn't even imagine how things were going to be without him. These thoughts flooded my mind, and I became discouraged.
“Hey, are you alright?” My friend interrupted my thinking.
“Yeah, I'm alright. I'm just kind of sad that Mr. Smith's leaving,” I replied.
“Yeah, me too. I had so many good times with him when I was younger.”
“I wish he were our teacher forever,” as I sighed, all happy moments flooded my mind.
“Hey, can you stop talking please?” my deskmate politely asked.
My friend quickly leaned back to his spot, and I began to think again.
“Thank you everyone for my times here. I will forever keep these memories and friend-ships I've made in the past five years.” He took a deep breath and announced, “As a gift for my leaving, please look under your seats.”
Confused, I slowly checked under my seat to see a yellow block of wood that read “LOVE” on it. I quickly grabbed it and began to study it. After seconds of analyzing this strange rectangle, I realized that it was a Jenga block (积木块).
注意:
1. 续写的词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The Jenga block was freshly painted bright yellow.
