  • 24、   Many people in America love Chinese food. However, their Chinese food” is very different from ours.

America is a country with different people and cultures. People come from around the world and join together there. Many of them bring their traditions with them. Chinese food arrived in America in the 1850s. At that time, many Chinese couldn’t find a job in America.

To make a living. some of them opened restaurants. Over the years, Chinese food has become more and more popular. However, they have made many changes according to American people’s taste.

One of the changes is about the cooking ways. In America, many “Chinese dishes” are cooked through frying. In China, few dishes are cooked in this way. Stewing(), steaming and boiling are more usual.

Another big change lies in the ingredients. Cooks in America often use onions and tomatoes in “Chinese food.” In China, cooks use these ingredients much less often

In addition, traditional Chinese food uses more kinds of meat. Chinese people eat duck blood, chicken feet, pig ears and even snakes. Most American people wouldn’t choose to cat these things. Traditional Chinese food also has a stronger taste.

In China, you can’t find some popular “Chinese dishes” in America at all. In Chinese restaurants, there is no Sweet ‘n’ Sour Chicken. The Fortune Cookie is an American invention too!

    A.In 1850. B.In 1950.

    C.In the mid-18lh century. D.In the mid-19th century.

D.Because Americans wanted to change their food.

3Which of the following are the changes of the Chinese food in America according to the passage?

    a. The cooking ways      b. The ingredients of the food

    c. The kinds of meat      d. The cooking time of the dishes

    A.abc B.abd C.bcd D.acd

4What does the writer think of the Chinese dishes in America?

A.He prefers the Chinese dishes in America to Chinese traditional ones.

B.He thinks the Chinese dishes in America are quite different from ours.

C.He thinks the traditional Chinese dishes are more popular in America.

  • 26、Choose the best answer(根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案)

Videodisc holds great promise of helping to meet the needs of American schoolchildren who have problems seeing, hearing, speaking, or socializing. Almost eleven percent of the students aged 321 in this country have an impairment that affects their ability to benefit from a regular education program. Handicapped students require special education because they are often markedly  different from most children in one or more of the following ways: mentally retarded (发展迟缓的), learning-disabled, emotionally disturbed, deaf, visually handicapped, physically handicapped, or other health impairments. The education of these handicapped children is rewarding but challenging.

A special education student usually needs a longer period of time to acquire information. Repetitive teaching techniques are often beneficial, and indefatigable(孜孜不倦的) consistency on the part of the teacher is frequently necessary. Interactive videodisc courseware has characteristics that can be capitalized upon to meet the challenges that special education poses. A videodisc program is infinitely patient. Repetition of any videodisc lesson can continue endlessly, and designers can assure absolute consistency within a program. Most important, according to special educator William Healey of the University of Arizona, is that videodisc “adds an extra dimension of realism for children who need graphic representations”.

Healey explained that deaf and mentally retarded children especially have difficulty grasping figurative (比喻的) language and higher-order language concepts. He believes that for special education, the power of videodisc lies in the ability of the technology to visually represent language concepts normally taken for granted by non-handicapped persons. Complex figurative language forms such as idioms and metaphors come most readily to mind as being difficult for handicapped learners.

    1The word“impairment”Line 3, Para. 1probably means _______.

    A. habit B. disability C. misconception D. belief

2Which of the following teaching techniques is beneficial to the handicapped students?

    A. Task-based method B. Inquiry-Based Learning

    C. Cooperative Learning D. Repetitive teaching technique

3The special education mentioned in the passage is mainly concerned with _______.

    A. genius students from day-care centers to colleges

    B. students who are fond of computer video games

    C. students who are either mentally or physically disabled

    D. teachers of language in the University of Arizona

4A videodisc courseware is beneficial to those who have study difficulties because ______.

    A. its fancy design is very attractive B. it allows the user to go back to where he wants to restudy

    C. the content of it is healthy and promising D. it is developed by university professors

5According to Professor Healey, we may infer that mentally retarded children perhaps _____.

    A. need graphic representations in order to understand higher-order language concepts

    B. are good at studying English idioms but often fail to grasp higher order language concepts

    C. are not very patient with videodisc which helps them to understand the world concepts

    D. tend to be deal as well and have difficulty learning the simple concept“before and after”

6The best phrase that summarize the main idea of the passage is ___.

    A. handicapped students and their problems B. videodisc and special education

    C. computer assisted teaching programs D. normal children and handicapped kids

  • 27、How can philosophy help kids' mental health?

Just as it's important for you to have a healthy body, it's also important to have a healthy mind. For a healthy body, you need to eat healthy food and do some exercise. But how do you keep your mind healthy? Perhaps exploring the meaning of things around us and thinking about how we should act in the world might help. That's called philosophy!

Have you ever wondered about the big things in life, like what is happiness? Or what is true friendship? It's normal for all of us to ask these questions. Usually when you are a kid, your parents try to teach you about these kinds of things. In the 1970s, philosophy professor Matthew Lipman developed a series of activities for the classroom which he called Philosophy for Children (P4C). The aim of these activities is to help children think for themselves about things that matter. The series includes different kinds of activities in which kids discuss different topics: the environment, animal rights, and more. Since kids usually spend more time at school than they do at home, school is a great place for these discussions. The teacher's role is to encourage the students to talk and express their thoughts and beliefs, not to give them the 'answers' – after all, these are the kind of questions to which there are no easy answers!

There is evidence that P4C really does make kids better thinkers and better students. But we thought that the program might also help with the students' mental health. After all, over the past years, mental health problems among children have been increasing. So what if schools carried out the P4C program? Would it have a positive influence on their mental health? This is the question we wanted to answer.

To judge the influence of P4C on children's mental health, we asked three classrooms to take part in our study. Even though our results are promising when it comes to levels of self-determination and anxiety, the P4C program didn't show any influence on depression (忧郁) levels. However, perhaps we could expect an influence on children with clinical depression (a very serious level of depression). Because none of our participants suffered from it, there was not much room for improvement – they were already doing pretty well. There was no important change in how satisfied the children were with their lives, nor with themselves. Perhaps the topics we discussed were not that suitable for this kind of improvement. Another possibility is that their self-respect and life satisfaction won't grow immediately but could do so some time after the end of the program.

1According to the passage, what can perhaps keep your mind healthy?

A.Taking part in the study about mental health problems.

B.Developing a series of activities for our self-respect.

C.Encouraging the students to talk about their life satisfaction.

D.Exploring the meaning of things and thinking about how we should act.

2P4C is to help children ________.

A.have a healthy body and mind B.think about the important things

C.spend more time talking at school D.answer the difficult questions

3What can we learn from the passage?

A.It's normal for all of children to ask stupid questions.

B.P4C has a negative influence on kids' mental health.

C.P4C really helps children be a better thinkers and students.

D.The study increased the levels of self-determination.

4The writer probably agrees that after the study ________.

A.kids' self - esteem will grow immediately B.P4C helps with the students' mental health

C.P4C showed influence on depression levels D.the topics are suitable for kids' satisfaction
