21、 Self-study is cheap, convenient, and you can set your own pace. However, you have to figure out for yourself what to study, how to keep up motivation and how to meet your goals.
Make learning fun
【1】 To keep you interested, supplement(补充)your study with materials that fit your personality and interests.
Don’t try to reinvent the wheel
For learning, it’s easy to believe that the smart self-studying student can use videos, apps, books, games all in a magical combination. 【2】 Don’t put all your faith in a game, free videos, or your own ability to create a better program than teaching professionals.
Build study into your daily life
Whether you’re a high school student or a college student, finding a spare hour to study is tough. 【3】 That’s really important.
Set realistic but ambitious goals and stick to them
You must make sure you make steady, regular progress. 【4】
We recommend studying for 3 to 5 hours a day. If you have less time to study, that’s OK.
【5】 So daily practice—even just 10 minutes a day—is better than taking long breaks and then studying for hours at a time.
A.The key is to study every day.
B.I know this seems really obvious.
C.It’s difficult to know where to start.
D.The problem is that there is no structure to your courses.
E.You must find smart ways to force extra study into your daily life.
F.So it’s really important to make a study plan you can actually stick to.
G.To keep motivated over the long term, learning needs to be something you want to do.
22、I passed one of my US colleagues and gave her a friendly greeting. Her reply was anything but friendly.
“What?"
“Er. You all right? ", I tried again.
She looked at me blankly. Then suddenly the cloud seemed to lift from her mind.
"Oh", she said, "You mean, how am I doing?" I thought you meant I had something on my face!”
As a British person coming to Beijing, I knew there would be cultural and language barriers between Chinese people and myself.
What I wasn't expecting were the cultural and language barriers between other English-speaking foreigners and myself.
Before the 2012 London Olympic Games, the Daily Mail newspaper published a guide to British English for Americans. Some of their examples were: Those are 'chips that go with your burger, instead of fries. You'd like some potato chips? Those are crisps. And: The best way to travel around the city during the Olympics will be by the underground, the rail network commonly known as the tube. It is not the subway ---that is a pedestrian(行人的) underpass.”
Any conversation I have with an American is proof of why a guide like this is necessary. British people usually know the American versions of words from TV or films (sorry-movies), but Americans never seem to have enough knowledge about British English.
The trouble is, it's not just Americans. When I speak English to non-English speakers I never know whether they have learned British or American English. When they say “chips”, for example, do they mean “French fries” or “potato chips”?
I can't help thinking back to the Daily Mail article: When you talk about pant in Britain, that means underwear. Trousers is the more appropriate term.
However, even though British English may have come first, around the world, the American way of spelling is getting more popular
Last month a survey released by US social media platform Steemit showed that English publications now largely use the American spelling, swapping words like “centre” for “center”. So it comes as no surprise that everyone I know just says “pants”.

A.show how she gets along with American colleagues in the office

【2】The underlined sentence "the cloud seemed to lift from her mind" means________.
A.she became confident of herself
B.she was not sure what to do next
C.she felt excited for what she heard
D.she came to understand the situation
【3】Which of the following is most probably the author's idea?
A.British people don't care much about American English
B.Non-English speakers can't tell British English from American English
C.Non-native speakers seem to prefer American English to British English
D.A knowledge of differences between American and British English is very important in communication
【4】The author is__________ language differences
A.pleased at
B.troubled by
C.careless about
D.fascinated with
23、 In the last few years, companies like oBike have begun flooding streets in places like Japan and Australia with bikes. Businessman Mike Than Tun Win realized these bikes could do much good for schoolchildren in Myanmar, of whom some walk an hour or more every day to school. Then he created LessWalk which buys up the bikes from other countries.
LessWalk modifies(改装)bikes to make them more useful for students. The rental bikes used to require a smartphone app to unlock them. LessWalk changed this for a lock with a key. They also added a second seat in the back of the bikes, allowing two children to ride to school on one bike. Recently they’re replacing the bike’s regular tires with a solid tire that can’t go flat. With all the changes, each bike packed attractively costs LessWalk about $35. “Despite the cost, the benefits it can develop are well worth trying,” Than told TechCrunch.
The project bought thousands of rental bikes from failed companies and shipped them to Myanmar. The process wasn’t as easy as it sounds—there was lots of paperwork concerned in moving the bikes from one country to another. But giving out the bikes takes a little longer given that LessWalk wants to make sure that the bikes go, for free, to the students who need them the most and Myanmar has a population of over 50 million people and more than nine million students. The project is working with Myanmar’s government and school systems to focus on poor students walking long distances a day to school.
Than hopes to bring in as many as 100,000 bikes and expand the program to other countries like Laos and Cambodia. Than is also hopeful that he can inspire “global friends” to follow him to put the abandoned bikes to work, instead of creating yet more urban waste.
【1】How many modifications does LessWalk do to the bikes?
A.2. B.3.
C.4. D.5.
【2】Why does it take longer to donate the recycled bikes?
A.Shipping the bikes is so difficult. B.There’re too many poor students.
C.The bikes need packing carefully. D.Targeted bike donation is needed.
【3】Which can best describe Than Tun Win as the leader of the project?
A.Ambitious. B.Encouraged.
C.Well-experienced. D.Nature-loving.
【4】What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Removal of Urban Rubbish B.Recycle of Donated Bikes
C.Benefits beyond the Cost D.Students’ New Vehicles
24、The Tiger Ying was a bronze water vessel (E-a) used in ancient China. Dating back some 3,000 years ago, it's a precious cultural relic. It is particularly special not only because its cap and spout(容器的嘴) were cleverly made into the shape of a tiger, but because such ancient practical bronze vessels are rare to find today.
Bronze vessels first appeared in China in the Xia Dynasty, which lasted from 2070 BC to 1600 BC. They reached their high use in the Shang and Zhou dynasties that covered a long period from 1600 BC to 221 BC. At that time, bronze vessels were used mostly in religious ceremonies. They had many functions, including food vessels, wine vessels, water vessels as well as musical instruments. Food vessels include Ding, a cooking vessel with two circle handles and three or four legs and Gui, a round mouthed vessel with two or four circle handles.
The bronze vessels needed to go through special processes (过程) to produce extremely beautiful features that are hard to achieve even today. They show the social productivity of that time. Since their production was limited, the number, size, function and combination style of bronze vessels all show social positions of their owners in ancient China.
Cultural relics can tell stories of history. For China, a country with a time-honored history, cultural relics are especially precious, since they stand for its several thousand years of civilization. However, statistics (数据) show that more than 10 million Chinese cultural relics have been lost overseas by various illegal means
We can 't change-history, but we can shape the future with friendship. For example, in 2013, the French Pinault family donated bronze rat and rabbit heads from the Old Summer Palace to China. A Japanese auction(拍卖)house in 2016 stopped the sale of Chinese cultural relics illegally obtained by Otani Kozui in the early 1900s.
We hope more Chinese cultural relics can be returned to China as soon as possible according to international agreement
