24、You never said “I’m leaving” In Life I loved you dearly
You never said “goodbye” In death I love you still
You were gone before I knew it In my heart you hold a place
And only God knew why That no one could ever fill
There are no words to tell you It broke my heart to lose you
Just what I feel inside But you didn’t go alone
The shock, the hurt, the anger For part of me went with you
Might gradually subside (平息) The day God took you home
Thousands of times I’ll need you Things will never be the same
Thousands of times I’ll cry And although it hurts so bad
If Love alone could have saved you I will smile whenever I hear your name
You never would have died And take pride you were my dad
In death I love you still
In my heart you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill
It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone
For part of me went with you,
The day God took you home.
Things will never be the same
And although it hurts so bad
I will smile whenever I hear your name
And take pride you were my dad.

26、 Artificial intelligence(人工智能), or AI in short, is the science of giving computers and machines ability to think and work like humans. AI scientists and engineers have made a lot of cool technologies. AI is rapidly catching up with the human ability to read faces. As a result, facial recognition(面部识别)is used a lot in the world. Chinese police use this technology to identify criminals(罪犯).Once they caught a criminal when he attended a concert. It also checks the ID of ride-hailing(网约车)drivers and lets people pay for things with a smile.
AI is also used in self-driving cars, which are believed to be the future of driving. Most drivers may wave or nod at passers-by to let them cross the street, but self-driving cars don't have this ability. Carmakers are testing a light signal system to help them "speak" to humans. The system can show what self-driving cars will do. For example, if a driverless car is yielding(让路), it will flash two white lights side to side. A rapidly flashing light tells passers-by that the car is about to speed up.
Service Robots also show you how powerful AI is. Imagine this—you come back home from school and your robot housekeeper is waiting for you at the door. After dinner, he teaches you to play the piano, just like a real music teacher. Such thoughts will soon happen in the real world. In the future, more and more service robots will become good home helpers. AI is so powerful that it can help human beings and even replace us in many jobs.

27、A teacher began his class by holding up a glass of water. He asked the students, “How much do you think this glass weighs?”
“Fifty grams(克)!” “One hundred grams!” “One hundred and fifty grams!” The students answered. The students took great interest in guessing.
“I don’t know either.” said the teacher. “What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?” “Nothing,” the students said.
“OK. What would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?” “Your arm would ache,” said a student.
“You’re right. Now what would happen if I held it for a day?” “Your arm would go numb(麻木的). You may have to go to hospital!” said another student, and all the students laughed.
“Very good. But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?” asked the teacher. “No.” “Then what caused the pain and numbness?” The students were confused.
“What should I do now to get rid of the pain?” asked the teacher again. “Put the glass down!” said a student.
“Exactly!” said the teacher. “Life’s problems are something like this. Hold them for a few minutes in your head and they seem OK. Think of them for a long time and they begin to ache. Hold them even longer and they begin to make you numb. You will not be able to do anything.”
The students learned a truly important lesson. It’s important to think of the worries or problems in your life. But what’s even more important is to “put them down” at the end of every day.
